A Miracle Record

My eyes grow wide as I look up at Jimin, who's currently examining the potted plant I have on my windowsill. He instantly turns to me as I point at the paper he'd given me, my voice hitched.

"It says here that you don't have to eat anything! How can you survive without water? Or food?"

His surprised face turns into a warm smile as he shrugs. "I'm an AI, so I don't require eating or drinking. But I could if you wanted me to."

"Of course I want you to eat!" I stress, already scanning through the foods I had in my fridge. "Do you like chocolate, Jimin?"

"I like everything that you give me."

"Come on, don't pull that card." I say as I hand him a wrapped chocolate, the last one I'd been saving. It was worth it to give it to someone who'd never had the precious thing their entire life.

"Thank you," He says politely, and I have to once again remind him to treat me like his friend.

"How is it?"

I have to admit that he looks adorable as he chews thoughtfully, his full lips slightly tilted. His silver hair glows in the morning sunlight, and I soon find myself watching him instead of his reaction.

A proud smile lights my face as he licks the chocolate off his fingers, his eyes turning to me for more.

"Sorry," I laugh, taking a tissue to wipe off his hands. "That was all I had. But I promise I'll buy you more later, okay?"

He nods, and I get back to examining him while he gets back to examining the plant.

"Are you sure that you're really an AI?" I ask as I point at his smooth, humanlike skin. I'd somehow imagined him to show all the metal and steel, but his pale, unblemished skin felt and looked exactly like mine.

"Yes."

"Then if I throw a horse on top of you you'd still survive?"

He giggles as he pulls me to his chest, the motion so sudden that it steals the words right out of my mouth.

"Yes, Master."

"What are you doing?!" I yelp as I quickly wriggle out from his grip, feeling a heated blush spread from my nose to the tips of my ears.

Literally.

"You're turning red," He says, tilting his head. "And in my database, it tells me that you're happy. Are you happy because I hugged you, Master?"

"It's Minah," I gasp, fanning my face as he looks at me with a crooked smile. "And no— I'm shocked, okay? Definitely not happy. Not happy at all."

"But you're still blushing."

"Okay!" I exclaim, making him flinch in surprise. "Rule number one— no sudden touching like that without giving me a warning."

"Rules?"

"And rule number two," I say, interrupting his incredulous protest. "No calling me Master. It's Minah. Yoon Minah."

"I'm sorry, Minah." He says, pinching his lips together. "But I might not be able to keep the second rule— you're programmed to my database as Master.  But I promise I won't touch you anymore."

"No— I didn't mean that you should stay away from me at all times," I say, glancing at the window to see if my reflection was still red. "I was just surprised, okay? I'm not used to that, so it took me aback."

"But didn't you tell me you had to touch me to sleep?"

If I'd blushed before, now my cheeks are flaming wild. His eyes are wide as he points at my face again, and part of me really wants to punch him like I punch Taehyung.

"That is not what I said!" I sigh, and he gets that confused look in his face again. "I said that you're going to help me to go to sleep, and I just might have to—"

"Yeah," He says, blinking slowly. "I'm replaying that in my memory core right now— you said that you have to touch me."

"But not like what you're saying it like!"

A devilish smile splits his angelic face as he cups his face in both hands, eyes wide and innocent.

"What did I say it like, master?"

And that's the second time I shut a door in front of a stunned Park Jimin's face.

"Are you still mad at me?" He says, poking his head out from behind my bedroom door. "I'm sorry for teasing you earlier, Minah."

It was late evening already, and as much as I hated to admit it, I missed talking to him.

"I'm not mad anymore," I murmur, twisting the ends of the blankets with my toes. "But you better watch yourself, Park Jimin."

I hear a soft of course and then feel the bed dip as Jimin lies himself down on it. Even though I thought I was well-prepared for this moment with the excessive amount of time I'd had to think about it, I realize I was never ready.

And as soon as I feel the heat return to my cheeks again, I pull the blankets over my head.

"Minah?" Jimin calls, and I hurriedly press the back of my hands to both my cheeks in a fragile attempt to cool them down. "You'll suffocate if you sleep like that, you know."

"Yeah, um..." I point towards the direction of the light switch, face still obscured. "Could you get the light, please?"

The moment I hear the click of the switch, a relieved sigh escapes my lips. I'd never been so thankful for the darkness before- and now I didn't have to worry about him seeing me blush like an idiot.

Why was I even acting like this, anyway? He isn't a human.

"Do you sleep, Jimin?"

His soft voice cuts through the silence like music. "Like everything else, I don't require it. But yes, I'm capable of sleeping like normal people."

"Lucky robot," I mutter, depressed that while even he could sleep at night, I couldn't without depending on
someone.

Then all of a sudden, the bed dips again. The moonlight streaming through the windows shine on Jimin's serious expression as he gazes down at me, his elbow propped up underneath his head.

"Do you dislike me because I'm a robot?"

"No!" I exclaim, surprised why he would even think that. Had I been mean to him without knowing? Was I really acting like that?

"Why would you even think something like that, Jimin? Was I mean to you?"

"No, but..." He motions at my face, his eyes slit into two dark lines. "But you seemed sad when I told you that I could sleep. It isn't your fault that you have insomnia, Minah. It isn't."

"I know," I sigh, dragging a heavy hand over my wide-awake eyes. "But I want to be normal. I didn't want to be born like this, always falling asleep while walking down a street or collapsing into a customer at work."

"Then go to sleep," He says, a ghost of a smile passing on his luscious lips as he holds out a hand. "I'm here to help you, and I'll always be here to help you. So you don't have to worry about anything anymore."

Carefully I nod, sliding my own hand in his. His touch is gentle and soothing, and miraculously, waves of sweet sleep begin to wash over my mind.

It feels amazing.

In less than a minute, I'm already half-asleep as I subconsciously wrap my arm around his shoulder. I've never felt so drunk with sleep until now, and I don't even see Jimin's warm smile as I bury my face into his chest.

And in a miracle record of two minutes, I fall asleep cuddling Jimin like an oversized teddy bear.
