Hotel's 6th floor
Bakugou had tried to relax watching some TV inside, but there was something that bothered him and he needed answers. He leaned on his and Kirishima's door, with his scarce patience growing thin. The fact that he had stared at the gates of the elevator for the last half an hour wasn't helping either. He could have removed Deku from the table by force and taken him to a further place, but that would have made his actions way too suspicious. He had no choice but to wait until the nerd returned to his own room.
The Explosion user instinctively looked in the opposite direction when he heard a door being opened. Much to his surprise, it was Tokoyami and Deku's. The last one was going out, but he froze when he saw Bakugou standing a few rooms away. By the time the former bully reacted, Deku, who clearly wasn't expecting visitors, returned to the inside and quickly closed the door. So Deku was already in his room after all. That meant Deku had returned not much later than him. He swore and run towards that room and started to knock the door furiously.
"DEKU! Open the door, you damn nerd! We need to talk!" he yelled. No answer was given. "I'M SERIOUS, GODDAMNIT! YOU KNOW I CAN BLOW THIS FUCKIN' DOOR!". He'd rather not to do it though. Mr Aizawa could be near and Bakugou wouldn't be too happy to be punished again. But he would face it if it was necessary. His hands were already clenched, sweaty of anxiety and ready to do what they did best, but he forced himself to keep it quiet...for the moment. "All right. We are going to talk you like it or not. On the count of three I will reduce this door to burned pieces. Let me in voluntarily and I promise I won't use my Quirk against you" he claimed.
"One..." Bakugou certainly sucked at diplomacy, but there was something he had to know as soon as possible.
"Two..." Deku was always good at pissing him off. If he fulfilled his threat, this time he would be the only one responsible, unlike what happened after the license exam, when they both were caught fighting in the middle of the night...
"...and..." his hands trembled. He was so certain Deku would finally give in he could only abandon himself to his instincts...
He let all the air out when the door opened slowly. His green haired rival and the reason he almost collapsed was standing there, looking more confused than frightened.
"Can I...help you...?" the mere question in his signature innocent tone made Bakugou get mad again. In a flash the spiky haired grabbed Deku's T-shirt and pushed him inside until his back almost got slammed against the wall on the other side of the room.
"So...you wanna talk...or fight?" the nerd asked in a low voice, since his neck was between the wall and Bakugou's forearm. It wasn't like they hadn't struggled face to face before, but he looked relatively calmed, like a curious child. He had to admit Deku had changed a lot since he was a Quirkless crybaby.
"That depends. Tell me: did you talk to the Round Face before?" Bakugou asked, wasting no more time.
"The Round...? Wait, you mean Ochako?" he asked in surprise. "I...I... so what if I did?"
"Ha! So now you even call her for her first name! You definitely have a lot of confidence, don't you?" Bakugou's temper made him tighten his grip.
"I don't know what you mean" Deku's look of confusion was almost believable to Bakugou.
"Oh, don't you?!" he sarcastically asked. "You think I'm an idiot? You fell for Uraraka almost since the day she helped you to defeat me! You chose Deku as your hero name because she calls you Deku as if it was the coolest name in the world! These morons might have a great time pairing you with girls like Melissa, but I know you better you'd wish! The Round Face would be more than a friend to you if you were able to choose!" he elevated his tone again.
"You...think so? I see..." as Bakugou expected, Deku looked upset. Seemed logical, after realising his romantic interest on her was not so subtle at all. His green eyes narrowed in response. "What do you know about that?" Bakugou felt his arm was angrily grabbed, but this wasn't the time to hold back.
"Listen carefully" Bakugou continued. "I don't care if she likes you back. I don't fuckin care if she doesn't. As far as I'm concerned, I don't give a damn if she wants to marry you." Actually, Bakugou had more than a clue after watching Uraraka during the dinner, while Deku was with Melissa, but Deku didn't need to know that. "What I want to know is this: have you been so idiot to tell her about the origin of your Quirk?"
Deku stared at him as if he was trying to understand what was going on. Yeah, Bakugou's interrogatory had certainly gotten him unguarded. And he better prayed the answer was no, because otherwise Bakugou wouldn't care anymore about the possibility of being punished. He made sure the door was closed anyway. After a minute, Deku responded with what seemed very carefully chosen words.
"I see no reason why I should have talked to her about my Quirk".
"You put such an amount of trust on people that makes me sick! This is the girl you like we are talking about and you expect me to believe you see no reason to spill the beans? What reason you saw to tell me then?"
"I...don't know...I guess...you had the right to know" he looked away. He wasn't sure about the affirmation or he found it difficult to admit? It didn't matter either. He released him and stepped back from him and the wall.
"All Might trusts you, so you are not to trust anybody on this subject. I will ask you again, and don't you dare lie to me: did you reveal the secret to Uraraka? Or Melissa?" he added. That last one was unlikely since he had only seen her a few times, but considering how easy should be for Deku to symphatize with a Quirkless, he'd rather be sure.
There was a pause. Deku stared at him for an even longer time and looked everywhere as if he was trying to find out something. For a millisecond, Bakugou wondered if someone could be listening but he had checked the walkway before and none was near. Besides, more than half of the class would still be downstairs.
"I didn't reveal any secret to Ochako. I can assure you that. And Melissa neither" he stated in a firm tone. Bakugou believed him. Deku had tons of annoying qualities but he was no liar. He allowed himself to chill.
"Fine. Make sure you remember this is a big deal. I'm keeping my eye on you" he grunted before he turned to leave.
"What about you? Have you told anyone?" he heard, in an inquisitive tone, when he was about to get out. He turned his head, visibly offended.
"Of course I haven't! You were an idiot for telling someone, but at least I can keep a secret" he answered through his gritted teeth.
"I see. Thank you. I won't tell a word to Ochako, I promise. I understand there are...more important things on the line" Deku stuttered. For the first time since he entered, Bakugou thought Deku was acting a little weird. "Now if you excuse me, I must get ready. I mean, All Might wouldn't like me to screw it tomorrow. They are counting on me". That sounded more like him.
"Right. You better do a decent job about that too" Bakugou said. He opened the door, but he felt this was a good opportunity to make one last question. "One more thing..." He began. This time, Bakugou didn't turn to look at him.
"Yes?"
"I'm curious about something. What the heck happened during the license exam? I mean...with the girl named Camie Utsushimi" he asked.
"Oh, that..." Deku answered in a voice that revealed he was holding his... laugh? "Nothing of consequence. As you said, Ochako is the only girl on my mind right now. But it is a funny story. I'll tell you in time. Now let me work please. It's getting late" Deku concluded as he looked through the window.
"Don't be mistaken. It's not like I cared..." he grunted before he closed the door behind him.
He returned to his room, where Kirishima had already arrived. "Hey, where you've been? You missed the best part of the dinner!" his friend greeted him removing his eyes from his scarlet laptop.
"Unless there was another villains' attack and you all got your ass kicked because I wasn't there to help you, I don't think so" Bakugou repplied with little interest.
"The girls stayed so Uraraka and Midoriya left the table and had time for themselves. I wonder what those lovebirds would have talked about..." told a smiley Kirishima as he clicked to replay the part of the 90s' wrestling match where the Undertaker threw Mankind from the top of the cell.
"Actually, I was wondering the same" Bakugou thought as he layed on the bed. He could take it easy now. The Deku he knew wouldn't lie even if his life depended on it.
End of chapter 7.
It looks like we have a new record of words! I hope not to make this story too long. Specially now it seems to start to be enjoyed by some!
I want to thank you all for the stars, the comments and the attention you are giving to this very first story of mine. Jeez, I still can't explain how my unfinished fanfic received the 6th position in the Izuocha ranking! Seriously, I'm glad you enjoy it.
This means I will have to work hard for the last chapters. No reader deserves to be disappointed. Please keep sharing your opinions and suggestions if you have any.
My next project might be a "story" about the reason behind my Wattpad name. If you have any other preference I will be delighted to read it.
That would be all for today. Honest Fiction will see you in the next chapter. And as we said here in Spain:
Muchas gracias a todos por estar aquí.
Thank you all very much for being here.
