½; kyle and caroline, messy messy questions and hidden glances.

kyle

Caroline asked him, once, when they laid down the school field and wind made their hair all messy. 'Do you still love me?', she asked quietly, and big green eyes staring at him. He couldn't bring himself to tell her the truth, so he said, 'Yes, yes, why do you ask that?'

Instead of the sweet sweet smile he was starving to see, she just stared at him and said no more. As if she knew, as if she saw through his lies and felt disgusted. How could you lie through your teeth like that? How could you. He could see it written all over her face, still big green eyes and red lips clasped tight together, she said no more.

What with that when you know everything is wrong, all wrong, but you can't figure out when did it all go downhill, huh? What with that feeling when you feel ashamed with your own true feelings, and you wish you had said differently, worded it differently, please say something, stop looking at me with those eyes, please—

What with the smile you don't care to show me anymore, Carla? The smile and the laugh and the way your eyes curve when I say I love you, even if it's not true, even if it is. Why don't you smile like that again? Just to make me feel like everything is still alright and maybe we can fix it? Fix it, glue the broken pieces together and hope it won't break again. Fix it, leave it there wither and dusted on top of the shelf, as least it won't get hurt.

Caroline didn't smile, and she didn't move either. She laid next to him for the next twenty minutes, no one uttered a word, until he got sick of it and stood up, offered her a hand to get up off the land.

'Time to go? Oh well.' She asked, didn't wait for an answer and hop to her feet. She still cling on his hands to get up and didn't let go, so he wondered, just wondered, if she ever wanted to stop this like he wanted to, if she ever grew tired of this like he did, if she ever—

if she ever loved him like he did loved her.

But he didn't ask, he kept it inside. When they got back to Bluebell, the sky already turned grey and she left upstairs without a goodbye.
