- 07 ; disappointment
"What happened?" Lucy asked quickly as she rushed towards the group. Robin hung her head low as Peter clenched his jaw, looking towards Caspian.
"Ask him." he muttered hatefuly as he started walking away.
"Peter." Robin sighed in disappointment.
"Me?" Caspian let out a humorless chuckle. "You could have called it off! There was still time!"
"No, there wasn't, thanks to you!" Peter seethed. "If you'd kept to the plan, those soldiers might be alive right now."
"And if you'd stayed here like I suggested, they definitely would be!" Caspian yelled as a crowd of narnians slowly gathered around, watching the two argue.
"You called us, remember?" Peter raised his eyebrows.
"My first mistake!"
"Boys-" Robin tried to intervene between the two but it was no use.
"No, your first mistake was thinking you could lead these people." Peter yelled as he started walking away.
"Hey! I am not the one who abandoned Narnia." Caspian shouted as Robin sent him a disbelieving look.
"You invaded Narnia. You have no more right to it than Miraz does! You, him, your father... Narnia's better off without the lot of you!" Peter says, his face red from anger.
Caspian shouts as both boys draw their swords.
"Stop it!" Robin yells at them while Edmund keeps a hand in front of her, a sign to not get involved.
The two boys glare at eachother but put their swords away, begrudgingly. Caspian glances at Robin, his face falling when he sees disappointment clear on her face.
────
Caspian sighs as he looks at the carvings of the Pevensie's and Robin in Aslan's How. He knew he shouldn't have done what he did, he knew he should have stopped his brawl with Peter. Just seeing the disappointment on Robin's face made his stomach churn. He didn't like the feeling.
"Are you so glad of that magic horn now, boy? The kings and queens have failed us. Queen Robin has failed us. Your army is half dead. And those that aren't will be soon enough." a voice startles Caspian.
He looks towards the entrance where Nikabrik stood. Caspian's jaw clenched hardly at the comment about Robin but he decided to not mention it right now. "What do you want? Congratulations?"
"You want your uncle's blood. So do we. You want his throne. We can get it for you." Nikabrik declared as he turns around and starts to walk away.
Caspian hesitates before following after him in the Stone Table room.
"You tried one ancient power. It failed. But there is power greater still. One that kept even Aslan at bay for near a hundred years."
As Nikabrik explains, a noise distracts Caspian as he draws his sword and points it at a cloaked figure who came out of the shadows. "Who's there?"
"I am hunger, I am thirst. I can fast a hundred years and not die. I can lie a hundred nights on the ice and not freeze. I can drink a river of blood and not burst. Show...me...your enemies!" the cloaked figure speaks before taking off his hood and revealing the fact that he was a werewolf. A hag approaches Caspian from behind the werewolf.
Caspian hesitates again. "And you can guarantee Miraz' death?"
"And more." the hag mutters sinisterly.
Caspian swallows hard before putting his sword away and looking towards Nikabrik, who nods his head.
"Let the circle be drawn."
The hag begins saying strange words. The werewolf draws a circle on the ground around Caspian. The hag pulls out the
White Witch's wand, and sticks it into the ground. Ice grows up, covering the image of Aslan. Within the ice wall, the White Witch appears.
"Wait...wait, this isn't what I wanted!" Caspian desperately shouts.
"One drop of Adam's blood and you free me. Then I am yours, my king." the White Witch says as she reaches out towards Caspian.
The werewolf grabs Caspian's hand, and the hag cuts it. The White Witch sticks her hand out of the ice as she smiles. Caspian looks at the Witch and then he seems to stop resisting, almost like he was bewitched.
"Stop!"
Peter, Edmund, Robin and Trumpkin run into the room, the boys drawing their swords while Robin takes out her bow. The werewolf crawls over the Stone Table and attacks. Nikabrik and Trumpkin swordfight while the hag knocks Peter's sword out of his hand. Edmund swings at the werewolf. The werewolf howls when an arrow coming from Robin's bow pierces his back. Nikabrik stands over Trumpkin, but Lucy comes up and puts her dagger to Nikabrik's throat. Nikabrik twists Lucy's arm around and throws her to the floor. Peter kicks the hag into a pillar and she falls. Edmund runs away, turns back, and hits the werewolf while Robin fires one last arrow, successfully killing him. Nikabrik looks at Lucy and hesitates, and then Trumpkin stabs him in the back. The Witch keeps reaching towards Caspian.
"Come one..." the White Witch mutters as she watches Caspian coming closer to her.
"Get away from him!" Peter yells as he pushes Caspian aside roughly and points his sword at the witch who falters slightly.
"Peter dear... I have missed you. Come, just one drop." the witch says in a sweet voice. She reaches out towards Peter. "You know you can't do this alone."
Peter hesitates, and then lowers his sword a little. Then the Witch groans, and the ice wall shatters. Edmund and Robin stand behind with their swords - well, Robin just picked up a sword from the ground - still drawn.
"We know, you had it sorted." Edmund rolls his eyes slightly as he walks towards the entrance where Susan was waiting for him. She too sends the two boys a dirty look before walking away.
"I knew you were both stubborn..." Robin trails off as she drops the sword on the ground and picks up her bow. She walks away, only turning towards the two boys as she says. "And I guess you're both stupid too." she says, taking one last look at the boys - here eyes lingering on Caspian longer - before she walks away.
────
Robin watches Caspian and Cornelius talk from afar, her lips pursed as she plays with her hair. She knew she had to talk to Caspian sooner or later and she'd rather do it now when they're not at war. And yet, it was as if she couldn't move her feet, she was rooted in place. Her nerves were eating her up and she was almost ashamed because of it. Robin was never this nervous, in fact, she can't remember the last time she was stressed. But since Caspian and the Pevensie's came, Robin's heart jumped at every sound.
Cornelius suddenly turned his head and caught Robin's eye. He smiled gently at her before patting Caspian on the shoulder and telling him something before he got up and left the boy alone. Caspian furrowed his brows at what his professor told him before he turned his head and caught sight of Robin coming his way.
He straightened his back as his heart started to beat faster than ever, making it impossible for him to stay still. Robin finally sat down next to him and they stayed silent for a little.
"I was thinking that we shouldn't be mad at eachother when we're almost at war." Robin said gently, causing Caspian to look at her. "So I'm waiting for your apology."
Caspian chuckled wholeheartedly while Robin's lip twitched into a smile. Caspian laughed some more befofe finally becoming serious. "I'm so sorrt Robin, I never...I never wanted to argue with Peter or bring back the witch...I thought she could defeat Miraz and help us..."
Robin sighed heavily as she looked at him. "I get it but you need to think before you do something, Cas. Not everyone has your best interest at heart."
Caspian was silent as he nodded before he looked at her with a small, teasing smile. "Am I forgiven?"
"Get me some food and I'll consider it." Robin smiled teasingly as she stood up. She kissed Caspian's cheek before she could stop herself and turned to leave. "Don't forget the food!"
