It was after freeing you that you joined the Avengers, with them welcoming you with open arms and you were so grateful for that, especially after you found out that whoever was mind controlling you had you killed your family.

While you were on the team, you got close to everyone (you got Steve and Bucky together and Tony tried to warn you multiple times about Sharon after he found out what she has been doing behind your back), especially Sharon, who was your girlfriend (key word "was"), but after finding her making out with a new recruit, you left the compound and went into hiding... That is, until Nick Fury found you a year later...
