5 more minutes (Law x Reader)

'How are you today Law?'

The surgeon looks over at the (H/C) girl in the bed, her eyes no longer glued to the screen of the laptop.

"I'm fine (Y/N)-ya. How about you?" he said before he sat down with his lunch. She only gave him a smile in return.
He had gotten used to sitting in this certain patients room since the break rooms were always so noisy.
It had been three months since he transferred to this high class private hospital and (Y/N) had been here ever since he started. Even longer before he arrived.

'You know. You should at least try and get to know your co-workers more. They're all really nice.' The monotone voice from her laptop voiced out and he raised his brow.

"Tired of me already?" He smirked as her nose scrunched up, her way of expressing a silent laugh, before she shook her head with a smile.

He admired how she could stay so positive despite her situation. She was a famous pianist and singer, but was hospitalized a year ago. Her voice had suddenly given out and when she began experiencing pain they had found out that she had a tumor lodged in her throat that was pressing against her vocal chords.
She was currently recovering from surgery after it had been a success, but it was still uncertain if her voice would ever return.

Despite that she was still cheerful.

He, however, was angry. He had heard from some of the older nurses, who held onto gossip like it was oxygen, that ever since she had arrived, (Y/N)'s biological family never visited once.

The younger nurses who was allover social media had seen her family members awe over her success and how proud they were.
But as soon as she got had gotten sick - nothing. Yet they would still post about her misfortune on social media, trying to gain sympathy.

He found it despicable and sickening that a family could abandon someone when it really mattered.

'You're thinking about it again.'

He looked up at her and saw her frown, but still kept her smile.

"I just don't understand how you can be okay with this." he sighed and she shook her head before she started typing.

'I never said that I was. But instead of being upset with them, I should count myself lucky to find out their true colors now. I don't need that kind of people in my life. I have my precious friends at least.' She looked over at him proudly, causing him to chuckle with an affectionate smile.

'Besides. All of this led me to you.
I know you're my doctor, but I honestly do value your company and I see you as a really good friend Law.'

He looked up at her and simply smiled before his pager went off.

He stood up and walked over to her, "Try to rest and I'll check up on you on my next break (Y/N)-ya." before he kissed the top of her head and left. She looked down at her laptop and typed four words before pressing backspace again.

After a while (Y/N)'s room was the loudest one on the whole floor when her friends and chosen family were visiting.

Luffy was play fighting with Ace and Sabo while Zoro tried to take a nap next to (Y/N). Sanji was complaining to Nami and Robin that Zoro was hogging (Y/N). They had even been allowed to bring her corgi Chopper who was now resting on Zoros stomach.

Law walked in to yell at them but stopped himself when he saw the huge smile on (Y/N)'s face.

It was shortly followed by a wince as she held her throat and that was Law's cue to go into doctor mode.

"Alright everyone needs to leave and let her rest!" he called out, getting their attention.

After a moment, and a lot of sulking on Luffy and Choppers part, they all finally said their goodbyes and promised to return soon.

She smiled and waved them off.

"You really need to learn to take it easy (Y/N)-ya. I know they're close to you but I saw that you put a lot of strain on your throat." he sighed before taking a seat next to her bed.

'I know, sorry. I guess I'll never really get used to not laughing anymore.'

He patted her head and gave a small reassuring smile.

"Nothing is certain yet. But since you are still recovering you need to take it easy or you'll rip up something." he said gently flicking her nose.

She stuck her tongue out at him and his eyes widened when he saw blood on it.

"This is just what I warned you about!" he scolded before going, once again, into doctor mode and took out his little flash light to check on her throat.

"Are you in any pain?" he questioned while looking at her sternly, a look that told her that she better not lie to him. She shook her head and made a gesture with her finger and thumb that said 'Just a little'.

He sighed and sat back down. She mentally giggled at seeing the stoic doctor suddenly so flustered.

"It's nothing serious, but you really need to take it easy. If you are to take visitors there can only be one at a time and they have to behave" he said while pinching the bridge of his nose.

She kept silent while typing and after a moment of silence, he began wondering if she was upset with him.

'Sorry about that. I was just sending an email to everyone, explaining what you had just told me.'

He was surprised that she had actually taken him seriously.
It must have been evident on his face when he noticed her frown at him.

'Don't give me that look. I know I can be silly  but I trust your word when you tell me these things.'

He just nodded and rested his chin against his palm.

'Go home and rest Law. You look exhausted.'

He looked up and sighed at her concerned expression. She wasn't wrong and honestly he was too tried to argue.

"I guess I should. I need to shower and change clothes before my next on call."

'Then off you go' She smiled at him as he walked over and once again kissed the top of her head before leaving.

"I'll come back as soon as I get the chance (Y/N)-ya."

Three days later, Law finally got a chance to go and visit (Y/N) again and he found himself almost jogging over to her room.
He didn't realize that he had missed her even though it had only been three days.

Besides, she would soon be discharged, then what?

He softly knocked on the door frame, getting her attention and her face lit up when her eyes were laid on him. He really enjoyed her smile.

'Law? You okay?' she looked at him concerned and he was brought out of his daydreaming.

"Sorry. Just spaced out for a bit I guess." he said before taking a seat.

'That's not like you'

"I must be tired. It's been a long day and some idiots have.. Occupied the on call rooms." he sighed, but then suddenly chuckled when he saw her face turn red.

She put away her laptop and his eyes followed her moves, confused. She scooted over a bit and patted the space next to her.

"The chief of medicine wont be happy about this." he smirked as she just rolled her eyes before holding up her pinkie and made a rotating motion.

He sighed and shook his head with a smile. She never cared about the chief of medicines complaints since the old man had a soft spot for her. Like she just demonstrated, she had him wrapped around her finger.

He put his doctor coat on the chair before lying down next to her. The perks of a high class private hospital was the comfortable roomy beds.

"The hell? Your beds are way more comfortable than our on call rooms'." he frowned and she scrunched her nose with a smile in response.

For a while, the room was comfortably silent while they looked over at each other every once in a while - a shy smile breaking out every time their eyes met.

"Hey (Y/N)-ya?" Law broke the silence before looking down at her. She met his eyes again and tilted her head curiously.

"When you're discharged... Would you mind if I ask you out?" he asked and her eyes widened before she looked down with a blush.

He chuckled and tilted her chin up before he began to lean in.
"Stop me if it's a no-" He didn't get to finish before she boldly pressed her lips against his.

It was gentle and innocent, but enough for them to convey their feelings for each other.

When they pulled away he smiled before leaving a soft peck on her forehead and settled against the soft pillows. He was out like a light in seconds and she watched his sleeping face with a loving smile before settling for some rest herself.

Law woke up a few hours later, feeling a slight weight against his chest before he opened his eyes and looked down to see (Y/N) cuddled up against him.

When she began to stir a bit, he stroked her hair softly while whispering sweet nothings in her ear to lull her back to sleep.
She breathed out contently before moving her lips slightly.

He froze and strained his ears to listen closer. Did he just imagine it?

"(Y/N)-ya?" he mumbled and she stirred again.

"(Y/N)-ya." he said again, a bit louder this time and she groaned.

"Five more minutes Law..."

AU: It was short but it was just something that popped up in my head while I was on a long walk.
Hope you enjoyed~<3

Buhbye for now!
