Hope there's someone - (Ace x Reader - Songfic)

'Hope there's someone
Who'll take care of me
When I die, will I go?'

The soft, but sharp, tones echoing in the empty room brought (Y/N) slightly out of her unconscious state.
She blinked while trying to adjust to the light, failing as her eyes stung.
But it was quickly forgotten when her brain, once foggy with sleep, brought back the sense of pain, reminding her of the last thing she remembered.

She grunted as she tried to sit up only to be met with a hand that gently urged her to lie back down. Recognizing the scent, she placed her hand on top of the other while a small smile broke out on her pale face.

'Hope there's someone
Who'll set my heart free
Nice to hold, when I'm tired'

"(Y/N)-ya.." the owner of the hand finally said and she opened her eyes as far as her strength would allow, looking up at Laws exhausted face.

"You haven't slept, have you?" she whispered.

His brows then creased in a frown.
How could she worry about him getting sleep at a time like this?

She squeezed his hand a bit, her smile never faltering. "Did we win?"

He nodded. "Strawhat-ya defeated him.."

Her smile grew. "Are you at peace now Law?" she asked, now looking at him.
He frowned and stroked her hair out of her face. "When you recover, I will be." was his firm answer and she gave him a sad smile, knowing about the feelings he held for her that she could not return.

But she loved him dearly, just like all the straw hats and especially Luffy. They were all her family.

"Law..."

"I'll go get the others." he said before leaving to let the others know she had woken up.

Her eyes drifted to the silhouette by the door that appeared after Law left the room. She looked it over as she tried to trace the outlines.

'There's a ghost on the horizon
When I go to bed
How can I fall asleep at night
How will I rest my head?'

Her attention was brought to the door that slammed open and several people bursting in with tears running down their faces. She smiled warmly at everyone when Luffy buried his face in her chest. She winced a little when his grip tightened. but quickly held her hand up to Law who was just about to scold the young man.
He frowned but let Luffy get off with a warning not to hurt her while she softly stroked his hair and whispered comforting words.

Law noticed her hands shaking while trying her best to hide the pain she was going trough. He tried to give her something for the pain but she refused, telling him that she wanted her mind to stay clear. She didn't want that foggy feeling that made her unsure of where she was.

'Oh I'm scared of the middle place
Between light and nowhere
I don't want to be the one
Left in there, left in there.'

Once Law kicked everyone out to let (Y/N) rest, he pulled up a chair by her bed and sat down before taking her hand in his. She noticed that his hand was shaking and gave him a soft smile.

"You really are an idiot (Y/N)-ya..." he whispered. He was hurt that she had taken the worst damage and had pushed her limits in order to protect everyone.

She squeezed his hand in return making him look at her.

"Law, can you promise me something?" she said weakly and he nodded, slowly and unsure.

"Even if it takes time, and even if it's one small step at a time, can you promise me to be happy?"

He gave her a small smile while running his fingers trough her hair.

"I have been ever since Punk Hazard." he muttered and she giggled, knowing that's when she met him when Luffy and his alliance was formed.

"Then can you promise to find it again? When I have to disappoint you..." she whispered before staring at the ceiling as tears softly cascaded down her cheeks.

"How could you ever disappoint me (Y/N)-ya?" his question was so gentle, as if any loud noise could break her, while he wiped her tears.
She surprised him by tightening her hold on his hand before slowly looking behind him.

"Law... I can see him."

'There's a man on the horizon
Wish that I'd go to bed
If I fall to his feet tonight
Will he allow rest my head?'

Laws eyes widened before he looked behind him, but found nothing there.

But he knew.

The way she smiled at the empty space in the corner spoke volumes.

"(Y/N)... N-No!" He tried to get up to do something, anything, but she wouldn't let go of his hand.

"It's no use Law. You're the doctor here. You know..." she said while taking her eyes off the figure behind Law before cupping his cheek.

He leaned into her touch and placed his hand over her while fighting the tears off.

She brushed them softly with her thumb. "I'm so sorry Law. I hate that I'm doing this to you when you've been trough more than enough." she whispered while fighting off her own tears.

"You have nothing to apologize for. You're not going. Please. You can't!" he choked out before burying his face in her neck.

"You know, Law, if things had been different. I really would have fallen for you." she cooed while stroking his hair and felt him tense up.

"I'm not saying this to hurt you" she continued. "But because I know you are capable of love just like anyone else. And you deserve it just as much, if not more. You are lovable Law." she finished and he raised his head to look at her.

"Promise me you will allow yourself to feel that way again" she pleaded.
He slowly leaned in and kissed her lips. She smiled and cupped his cheek again.

"I... I love you (Y/N). I promise I'll try." he said quietly while closing his eyes and leaned into her touch.

"Thank you, Law.." she whispered before she felt a sharp pain that made her vision blurry.
But it was eased for a moment when she felt a hand stroking her head. She looked away from Law and met the smile that her heart responded to immediately.

"I'll be here the whole time." the voice, only she could hear, spoke softly.

She smiled before closing her eyes and the last thing she heard was a broken voice calling her name.

'So here's hoping I will not drown
Or paralyze in light
And godsend I don't want to go
To the seal's watershed'

When her eyes opened she noticed that there was no more pain and the cold was replaced by warmth.

She looked around at the flowery field she was lying down in before getting up and started walking. Her ears picked up the sound of the ocean and felt her heart tug in that direction.

'Hope there's someone
Who'll take care of me
When I die, Will I go?'

The sound became stronger and she could make out a figure in the distance. Her feet picked up their pace when the familiar hue of orange caught her eye.

Without hesitation or caution, she crashed into the body who yelped in surprise and they both tumbled down.

"Happy to see me?" the man laughed softly while wiping the tears of the woman currently straddling him.

His eyes widened when she punched him and looked at her bewildered.

"That's for being an idiot and getting yourself killed!" she yelled.

"(Y/N)..." he started but gave out a muffled grunt when she crashed her lips against his.

"... That's for saving Luffy's life." she whispered against him.

"Damn, make up your mind." he chuckled, but stopped when he felt her tears land on his face.

"You have no idea!" she sobbed into her hands. "H-How much I-I missed you!"

He smiled before prying her hands off her face and wiped her tears.

"I missed you so much Ace!" she whimpered before burying her face in his chest.

He held her close and kissed her head. "I'm here now. Didn't I tell you? This-" he pulled away and gestured between them both. "- is forever." he grinned.

"Literally." she laughed trough her tears.

He chucked, "Literally." before pulling her into another kiss.

They held onto each other with all their strength since they could not express in words the relief and bliss of their reunion.
He laughed when he heard her soft snores and kissed her forehead.

"You must have been so tired." he cooed before picking her up.

"Rest (Y/N). There's nothing but time now." he whispered into her ear and saw the soft smile that spread on her lips.

'Hope there's someone
Who'll set my heart free
Nice to hold,
When I'm tired.'
