Worse than me. Part 2 - (Kid x Reader)
"So hows our child doing?" EJ took a sip of her coffee, smiling innocently at the blonde from across the table.
"He's pissed, nothing new really." Killer sighed as he picked up his hot chocolate concoction. "Stop staring."
"It's not real coffee."
A small pout appeared from under his bangs. "Stop crapping on my lifestyle choices EJ."
She waved her hand dismissively while leaning back in her seat. "I'm not. I'm just objecting to the fact that you call your drink coffee. It's hot chocolate with coffee flavor. Not coffee. "
She giggled at his pout growing bigger. "So what happened this time?" she asked, thankfully changing the subject.
"You know damn well why this whole thing happened." Killer frowned while gesturing towards her hand that was neatly wrapped around the paper cup.
"Oh?" She sounded surprised, but the glint in her eyes told him she was fully aware, even proud, of her handiwork. "I don't follow Killer. I just did this for Law." she smiled innocently while holding up her hand and watching the ink across her knuckles with awe.
A while ago, EJ had admired the tattoos on Laws hands and had then noticed, where the word 'Death' was spelled out, on his left ring finger laid the letter 'E'.
So, in contrast to the words on his tattoo, she got the word 'Life' tattooed on her left hand, with the letter 'L' starting on her ring finger. She even got a miniature version of his heart tattoo on her left pinky.
Law had been surprised, even to the point of calling her an idiot for getting a tattoo for his sake. But she had seen in his eyes that he had appreciated her gesture.
The problem with this was that EJ had shown this to (Y/N), knowing full well about her being pissed off at the redhead.
"You are such a meddler." he sighed at the brunette who kept her smug smile.
"I'm just trying to give our dense son a little push."
The blonde chuckled. "Our child is quite a handful."
She nodded matter-of-factly, raising the cup to take another sip with a serious expression while the corners of her lips twitched. "He is. But we decided to have him, so it's our responsibility."
"Maybe he needs some one-on-one time with his stepdad? Maybe a nice camping trip with Papa Trafalgar?"
She snorted into her coffee and gasped while grabbing a napkin. "Fuck you, Killer!" she yelled while suppressing the giggles. "Oh my God the image of the two of them–BAHAHAHA!" she shrieked, almost falling out of her chair.
§
"Law. I love you and all. But you're seriously pushing the boundaries right now." (Y/N) sighed into the phone.
"As a doctor, I'm just being concerned for your health."
"Fair." she spoke softly until a tick mark appeared on her forehead. "But you have no business to keep making appointments with my gynecologist!"
"Just making sure you haven't caught anything." her older brother said calmly, but she could hear the smug smile over the phone.
"You never did this with any of my exes."
"Exactly."
Prick. Then she smirked. "Don't worry. I've made sure we've used protection every time. In the bedroom, the couch, the hallway – he was a little too eager that time so that was a close call –Cora-sans bed, in Kids truck–"
"Hanging up now."
"Love you too big brother." she snickered when the line went dead before checking on the text she had received during the phonecall.
Insensitive dick:
– Come over tonight.
(Y/N):
– Can't. I'm having lunch with a friend.
Insensitive dick:
– With who?!
She rolled her eyes. If he didn't realize by now, she was not going to start repeating herself.
(Y/N):
– I just told you, a friend. Now was there anything else?
Insensitive dick:
– Dammit, what crawled up your ass and died?! You've been pissy with me all week!
(Y/N):
– If you're just going to pick a fight, go do something useful with your time instead of wasting mine. I have to get ready.
She put the phone down and kept ignoring the incoming calls. Sure, she felt a bit happy that he tried calling her right away.
However, she was still pissed off and couldn't think rationally. Even though she knew that she really should talk to Kid properly, she was in no mood to explain to the thickheaded mechanic.
She considered asking Law for advice, but since 99.8% of his suggestions always were to leave the man, she decided against it.
Checking the time, she realized that Killer would come over any minute and wanted to at least get dressed in proper clothing instead of her pajamas.
A few minutes later, he arrived with the food he bought and they started cooking while listening to music. Well, he cooked while she handled the playlist.
(Y/N) had actually taken a huge liking to Killer a few weeks into her dating Kid when she had decided to hang out more with him, knowing it was the redheads best friend and part owner at their shop. So it would've made things difficult if they couldn't spend time together at all.
Luckily that wasn't the case.
Killer had once cooked for her as thanks for making Kid a less of an asshole at work.
Perhaps it was the fact that the man was getting laid on a regular basis, or maybe it was that he had finally met his match. Either way, this is what birthed their regular Sunday brunches.
"Just a heads up, he might be more of a dick than usual at work." (Y/N) casually mentioned in between bites and proceeded by explaining their text conversation.
He sighed. "You could have just told him that I was the one coming over."
Shrugging, "It's not like I've never mentioned our Sunday brunch before. Not my fault he never listens." she muttered before glaring at the pitiful look on the others face.
"Don't look at me like that, it's not because of Law or anything."
She poked around in her food for a while before pouting. "It's just stupid that a stonefaced guy like my brother can at least voice his feelings on occasion."
Before Killer could answer, there were loud knocks on the door and (Y/N) shooed at him.
"That's EJ. She promised to get me ice cream." He nodded and got up before making his way to the door.
"What the fuck?!"
She stiffened at the voice. Either EJ made one hell of an impersonation, or...
Loud stomps brought her out of her thoughts before she turned around.
"Why didn't you tell me that Killer was the one coming over?! You got any idea how pissed I was?!"
Barely listening, (Y/N)'s eyes were focused on the bag he was holding before he slammed it on the counter. "I ran into the goths girlfriend and she made me bring it here." he grumbled.
"Like I don't have better fucking things to do with my time than to run errands."
"I should get going." Both turned towards the doorway and watched Killer put on his jacket.
She went and placed the ice cream in the freezer, "No, he can leave since he obviously has 'better things to do with his time'." while glaring at Kid the whole time she spoke.
"You two need to stop acting like children. Work whatever this is out, or break up. Either option is better than whatever this" he gestured between the two of them. "is."
They both glared towards the floor, not showing any sign of cooperating.
"Okay, good talk. Both of you better text me later so I know you're okay. I don't feel like being questioned by the police just because I was one of the last people who saw Kid alive." They listened as the front door opened and closed.
Kid bristled. "Did you just assume I'd lose against her?!" he yelled at the empty space by the door.
A small snort turned his attention back to the (H/C) who had turned his back to him. "(L/N) this is so not the time to be laughing at me."
Immediately she fell silent before turning back to face him. "Weren't you leaving, Eustass?"
He glared before approaching her. "Oh, so this is the game we're gonna play huh?" Her back met the kitchen island as he towered over her. "Or are you gonna act like a fucking adult and tell me why you're so pissed at me?!"
Now he had done it.
"An adult?" She stood up straight and dug her index finger in his chest. "You want to lecture me about acting like a fucking adult?!"
Surprisingly, he took a step backward each time she jabbed his chest in between her yelling.
"First – you forgot that yesterday was a very important day!" He took another step back. "Second – you blame me for being pissed off 'cause of your stupid jealousy when I've told you for months about me and Killer hanging out on Sundays!"
He stared at her shocked and, shamefully admitting, a little turned on.
"Third – You openly brag about the tips you get from those rich sluts who come to your shop after flirting with them while I can't even have a conversation with a guy without you throwing a fucking fit!"
Her hand fell to her side when his knees hit the back of the couch, forcing him to stop, and her shoulders began shaking. "For fuck sake, you almost beat up an old man once!"
He was now sitting down, almost putting them at eye level before tilting his head. "Huh? What about yesterday?"
"That's what you took from all of this?!" she sighed and ran a shaking hand through her hair. "Good God I might actually take up on Laws offer to have your brain checked."
She held up her hand, stopping him from his usual habit of shouting obscenities regarding her brother. "Mind you that that is the nicest thing he has offered his surgical skills for when it comes to you."
Kid shuddered. He did not feel like finding out what ideas were swimming around in that sadistic freaks mind.
Then he let out a small huff.
"As if I'm afraid of him."
"Oh, believe me, leaving you at the mercy of my brother is the least of your problems. I have half a mind to borrow his tools myself."
"Yeah?" He pulled her to him, his hands at the small of her back and his painted nails digging into her skin after sneaking them inside her shirt. "And what did you have in mind?"
He couldn't help but tease, this was their usual regime after all.
Argues and raillery, which later ended up in them unable to keep their hands off each other. Or whenever one of them made the other angry, which would later end up in them making up – many times.
But there was something in his gut that kept nagging him that something was a bit different this time around. Which was only confirmed when she turned her head and rejected his kiss.
Her hands were still on his shoulders, but not in the possessive need as usual, but with uncertainty.
"I think you should go."
The fingers against (Y/N)'s back dug a bit deeper as Kid's whole body tensed up. This didn't seem right.
"Wait. You're actually mad at me?"
No matter how many times they've fought or argued, not once has he been kicked out. She's threatened him with it several times, yes, but never with such intent as she did now. Never in such a defeated tone.
She just shook her head and moved away from him, only to be stopped as he grabbed her wrist. "Wait. Okay... Hold on." he frowned. "Come here." He led them both around the couch to sit down.
"Look." He rested his elbow on his knee, digging his fingers into his scalp. "You know I'm no good at this." he defended, only for her to cross her arms with that familiar stoic expression that made it obvious she and Law were raised together.
"Try."
He sighed and, to his credit, figured out her reason to be mad rather quickly. But the hardest part was actually explaining himself.
It's not like Kid was dumb, far from it, but he was a very straightforward man who had a no-bullshit preference when it came to conversations.
In his words: 'Say what you got to say or shut the fuck up.'.
So he rarely read between the lines.
Until today, he never needed to do that with (Y/N) since it's always been cards-on-the-table between them from the start.
"Okay so." He started, running his hand down his face. "It's not like I don't listen to ya. I just don't really register things when it comes to you and Killer. I mean I trust that guy with my fucking life and I know he'd never hit on you. I just got pissed off when you wouldn't tell me who you were hanging out with, which you always do."
She said nothing, only tilting her head slightly to show that she was still listening.
"And about those girls–"
She raised her brow at him
"Sluts." he smirked a bit as he corrected himself. "It's not like I brag because I care about their attention. It's just so damn easy to flirt your way into some extra cash with those desperate skanks. I mean I didn't even have to do more than–" He stopped when she raised her brow again, questioning him if he was really that stupid to tell her at this very moment what kind of way he flirted with them.
"Anyway... Yeah, I guess I lose my temper when guys talk to you." He scratched his head and looked away a bit. "But it's cause I don't want them talking to you."
"I figured as much, Eustass."
He gritted his teeth. He fucking hated when she got that way. It was too similar to her brother and it creeped him out.
"That's not!..." He sighed as his shoulders slumped. "That's not what I mean. I just don't want them to get to know you. Cause you're..."
"I'm what?" She asked calmly, but then her eyes widened a bit when she watched his ears turn pink. This caught her full attention and piqued her curiosity.
She scooted a bit closer. "I'm what, Eustass?" she asked again with a smug grin that made his blood boil.
Also, it didn't help that she was currently moving his hands away to see how his cheeks now matched his hair before climbing onto his lap.
"Tell me." she purred as her anger temporarily dissipated at the sight in front of her.
She could just imagine teasing him for this and rallying him up to the point where he would ravage her with full intention to teach her a lesson for messing with him.
Perhaps this could even be the best way to get some answers.
Even if it didn't, Kid never got like this and she was not about to let the rare opportunity to truly tease him slip through her fingers. Though his dominant, larger than life character was how she preferred the man, seeing him flustered was an incredible turn on.
He bit his lip as he felt her hands roam his chest before resting them against his collarbones, dragging her nails across the skin. "Tell me." she said, now with more conviction as she ground down a bit, causing him to let out a surprised huff and the words slipped out along with it. "Amazing."
She grinned at him. "Why thank you, Eustass, but I haven't even gotten started."
He shook his head before grabbing her wrists. "I mean you." he muttered while looking away. "That's why you can't talk to other guys. I don't want them to see."
It was the most honest answer he could give. His interest had been there from the moment he had seen (Y/N) beat the living shit out of her ex-boyfriend for daring to lay a hand on her after she had caught him cheating.
He had inwardly laughed at the sight, silently mocking the coward for striking her just cause he couldn't handle a woman like her. She needed someone at her level, or at least close to it.
Many would probably think of her as crazy with issues needed to be sorted out in therapy — and he would punch anyone who was stupid enough to try and suggest that in his presence.
How could she not be perfect the way she was? She wasn't afraid of him, challenged him and, as he had discovered today, wouldn't budge from putting him in place when needed.
He sighed. Might as well get it out now that he had already let some of it slip.
"Didn't think I'd find anyone like you."
Now it was (Y/N)'s turn to turn red. She'd been prepared for Kid to lose his shit from her attempt to dominate. Either by staying quiet and letting his actions speak for him or at the very least let out a string of curses aimed at her. Having him actually reveal his true feelings, as vague as they were, shocked her and she felt stumped as to what to do.
"I..." But then she remembered why she was angry with him in the first place and got off of his lap, standing up with her arms crossed. "That doesn't explain why you forgot our anniversary yesterday!"
"Huh?" the redhead looked at her properly now with nothing but confusion, which later turned into anger. "What do ya mean I forgot?! Isn't that today?!" He got up and stood in front of her, his forehead creased and his amber eyes challenging her (E/C) ones, feeling embarrassed that his honest words had been completely bypassed.
A vein popped at her temple. "If I remember correctly, Yesterday was the day we met exactly six months ago."
The skin on his forehead smoothened out at the realization. "Oh. You counted from that day."
She frowned as his ears began turning red, too confused and pissed off to take note of how cute it was this time.
"What else would there be–" Oh.
Oh, that's just too adorable. He had counted from the day they had their first date.
That night at the party, they had teased each other the whole evening until she was dragged into her bedroom. The remaining guests had been mortified and had quickly left.
A few days later, E.J had teased her about it non stop after giving a fair warning that Law was most likely to dismember the man at any given chance.
(Y/N) wouldn't exactly call the day after a date per se. But after their love-making, Kid had been complaining about her not having any decent food at home, so they had gone out to a 24-hour fast food place at four in the morning.
Even though her interest had been there from the get-go, she had adored the way the redhead had cussed some girls out who had been watching judgingly and muttering something about weight and eating greasy food that early. He had gotten in their faces, calling them bitching hypocrites until they had quickly fled the place.
After she had made a small comment about feeling tempted to let him take her then and there, (Which he had gladly obliged if she had let him.) they had talked for hours, finding out how much they had in common and she had listened to him talk about his work as a mechanic while he in returned listened to her.
He had been surprised to find out that she was a doctor as well. A pediatrician no less.
Nothing about her said 'I like to work with children.' which she had explained to him that working with sick children – who needed adults who could keep a collected and lighthearted attitude – was a different case and something important to her. Something about her brother being sick often as a child.
Kid had been skeptical, until a few weeks later when he was going to pick her up at work.
After almost being tricked into the operation room by Law, who he had asked directions from, he finally found the pediatric ward and had watched (Y/N) work. How she had interacted with the children with that gorgeous smile.
But what that had made his heart skip a beat that day, was the way she treated all the children equally, even though it was obvious that some of them were worse off than others. Both in social status and health.
"Is that why you asked me to come over today?" Both stood still, sheepishly shifting their weight from one foot to another every once in a while. This was a first for them after all, actually having a serious talk regarding their relationship.
"Well yeah. Don't get your hopes up though. S'not like I had anything special planned. Just thought we'd hang out." He muttered with a tight grip on his back pocket.
"Well." she smiled while uncrossing her arms and resting her hands on his pectorals. "We're together now." she said in that low seductive tone that went from his ears straight to his groin.
He smirked before trapping her in his arms, brushing his nose across her neck. "I don't know." he muttered, enjoying the goosebumps forming on her skin. "You gave me a hard time all week without talking to me properly."
She whined when one hand moved teasingly right under her breast and the other right above her ass, but never going where she wanted them to be. "Prick."
"Bitch."
"Bedroom."
§
Law took his eyes off of his phone after sending his sister a text to glance over at the grinning brunette. "What did you do now?"
He's been with her long enough to recognize that plotting smirk anywhere.
She set her book down on the nightstand before turning towards him with an innocent smile.
"Just being a good mother to my idiot son."
Law sighed. "Stop calling him that. It's creepy." he muttered before lying down.
After sending a quick text, she soon followed and they faced each other while her hand searched for his.
"I need to practice for the real thing soon."
His face went pale instantly to the point that he almost looked identical to the pictures Cora-san had shown her of Law as a child.
She frowned before letting out a snort.
"For when we get Bepo." she clarified. "Good God Trafalgar, you can be so dense sometimes. " She released his hand to gently flick him on the nose. "Besides, you think I would've announced it that way?"
"I never know with you."
"I like to keep you on your toes.~" she mused before turning around. He sighed and pulled her to him, resting his face in her shoulder.
"I wouldn't have minded, you know."
Shaking her head, she patted his arm. "Of course not. Which is why you resembled a dying man for a second there."
She yelped when he bit her shoulder. "Go to sleep."
She giggled. "Goodnight my handsome genius.~ Ow! Law stop that!"
~Extended ending.~
"(Y/N). Your fucking phone." Kid muttered half asleep while letting (Y/N) go temporarily to let her check her phone or at least turn the damn thing off.
She yawned while sitting up and reached for the annoying device, frowning when she saw the several notifications.
Law-Paw:
– Next time, don't tell me unnecessary information I never asked for.
She raised her brow, confused, before reading the text that had come in shortly after.
EJ:
– You might want to send Kid out of town for a few weeks.~
Rubbing her eyes so that she could re-read the message, she confirmed that what she had seen was correct. But remained confused until checking the flood of texts that had arrived a while after.
Cora-san:
– (Y/N) DONQUIXOTE (L/N)! YOU ARE GROUNDED FOR LIFE AND I'M GOING TO KILL THAT GUY!
'Oh, that little snitch.'
She kept reading through the death threats aimed at the man sleeping beside her until she let out a sigh before deciding to put her phone on mute and leave it for the night.
Just as she was about to settle back for sleep, her hair was caught in something. She looked down at the culprit and her heart melted instantly.
Around her neck, was a silver chain with a small pendant of a jolly roger.
Maybe not the most romantic thing, but coming from Kid, this meant a lot to her. Not only did he remember how much she loved anything with pirates, but this particular design wasn't anywhere to be found so she knew he must have made it himself.
Grinning, she lied back down and spooned the redhead while placing gleeful kisses at the base of his neck, feeling the man shudder in her arms.
"I love it. Thank you." she smiled into his skin.
He let out a sleepy grunt and patted her arm lazily. "Yea yea. Let me sleep."
A small sadistic smirk appeared as she brought her lips to his ear. "Kid?"
"What now?" he huffed.
"I want to introduce you to the rest of my family."
