Chapter ♞ 9 : Lucky Item

Then.....the person who saved me and left the towel was actually Aomine-kun?!

Mikan walked few steps backwards as she tripped from a equipment in the storage room as her butt crashed on the floor. Then Aomine and Satsuki rushed towards the room after hearing the crash, they saw her, sitting on the floor.

"What are you doing, Sakura?" Aomine said as he held his hand towards her.

"I-I was trying to return the basketballs back here in the storage room, when I accidentally t-tripped." she stuttered as she took his hand and he lifts her up.

Mikan stood up on her own feet while she stared at Aomine's hand that was still holding hers, she could feel her cheeks heat up.

I finally found my prince...at last.

The dark blue haired boy slowly lets go of her hand as she pouted, missing the warmth of his hand.

"Me and Dai-chan will help you place back the basketballs in the shelves, Sakura-san." Satsuki said as she started picking up the balls.

"Hey Satsuki, what's the big deal? I ain't helping. I'm tired of today's practice." Aomine stated.

Then Mikan walked towards Satsuki as she grabbed the basketballs from her hands and put it in the net.

"It's fine, Satsuki-san. I can do this by myself, you two can go home without me." she said.

"No, we should help you—ouch." Satsuki flinched as she felt the bruise on her hand ached.

"Your bruise isn't fully healed yet, don't force yourself." she smiled at her and then turned to Aomine.

"Aomine-kun, can you put a new bandaid on Satsuki-san's bruise? You two also can go ahead." she added.

"Are you sure, Sakura?" he asked.

    "Yes, I am." she said.

With that, the two of them left and went home as Mikan continued putting the basketballs in the net, the other members of the basketball team also went home.

Then someone entered the storage room and to see a tall green haired boy who was holding a mop in his hand, while on the other hand was an orange. He came here to return it.

"Oh, it's just you, Midorima-kun." she grabbed the last ball and put it inside the net.

"You are Sakura, right?" he asked as she nodded.

She noticed the mop on his hand, "You can put the mop on the corner of the room." she stated.

"Alright." Midorima said and did as instructed while she did her own business of carrying the net to the corner.

"Heavy..." she muttered while carrying it and began to walk, suddenly, the net was lifted as she turned around to see Midorima.

"Where are you putting this, nanodayo?" he asked.

"At the corner..." she answered as he nodded and begin to walk.

"I-I can do it by myself, Midorima-kun!" she stated.

"It's alright." he stated and put down the net on the corner.

"Um...thank you very much, Midorima-kun. But I could really handle it." she said, trying her best not to bother anyone.

"I-I'm not doing this because I want to, it seemed like you were having a hard time lifting this...s-so I decided to come and help, nanodayo!" he said as he pushed up his glasses.

Suddenly, somebody closed the door leading to the storage room as the two whipped their heads and heard a clicking sounds from the knob. Bullets of sweat came down their foreheads, nervous.

Mikan ran towards the door as she began to twist the doorknob open, but to no avail, it won't open. It was locked from the outside.

"Oh no!" she exclaimed, troubled.

"What's wrong?" the boy asked as he walked towards her.

"It won't open. Somebody must've had locked it from the outside." she told him, completely nervous.

Midorima twisted the doorknob as he tried to open it, though it won't budge. It was no avail, it was completely locked and they are trapped in a one closed, dimmed room.

"Somebody! Open the door! There are still people here in the storage room!" Midorima yelled.

But no avail, nobody responded to his yells and pleas. Then he punched the door, angrily.

"I'm certainly unlucky today, Oha Asa even stated that Cancers will be trapped because of somebody else's foolishness!" he stated.

Meanwhile, a blonde haired man was the last person who left the gym. He was also the one who locked the door of the storage room without checking if there was still somebody there. He put back the keys in the office and went to look for Mikan.

As he wasn't able to spot a girl with orange hair and red polka-dot ribbons, he sighed, thinking that she might've had gone home already. Then he turned off the lights in the hall and walked out of the gym.

♛♛♛

"Anyone! Open the damn door already!" Midorima was in the verge of hopelessness as he kept knocking on the door.

He sighed for the umpteenth time, it was no avail, no use, utterly useless of spending his energy in shouting. With having no much choice, he sat down on the cold floor.

"Sakura? You still there? You were quiet for the—"

Mikan hurriedly gloom at Midorima's back, her nails dug deeper in his shirt as she clutched on his clothes tightly, not letting go. He was surprised, confused and flustered.

"Sakura? What are you doing?" he mumbled as his cheeks began to heat up, he blushed from her touch.

However, she didn't respond, much to his annoyance. Then he turned his head slightly towards her and to see her trembling in fear, he was shocked from the frightened expression she was giving out.

Her amethyst orbs gleamed as there were tears at the corner of her eyes, he noticed every small detail about her now that she was so close to him. Her eyelashes were really long as her cheeks were flushed. Also, he could hear her uneven breathing patterns as her hot breathe touched his neck, it sent him shivers.

The smell of her hair that was giving out a scent of shampoo that he doesn't know, lingered in his nostrils, it was seriously attractive. Both her orange locks and her fragrance. He also felt something warm pressed on his back, it was somewhat small but soft. Lastly, his eyes landed on her lips.

Her lips were pinkish red, it looked really soft and smooth. He felt his cheeks slowly heating up and felt heart palpitations in his chest. It was a shameful thing to think about immoral stuff about a girl you barely know.

   But Midorima is a boy.

He shook his head violently, refraining from thinking lewd things, and tried to hold back himself from this little harmless girl who was clutching tightly on his shirt, in the verge of crying.

    "Don't tell me...you are afraid?"

The moment he mentioned that she was afraid, it made her shake even more and gripped tighter on his shirt. Looks like he shouldn't have asked the obvious thing. His bad.

"It makes me uncomfortable. To be trapped in a dark, cramped places just like this one......it's so scary...."

He felt his shoulder got wet from her tears, she was truly afraid of the darkness. And was it bad for him to think that it was pathetically adorable?

Mikan leaned back as she wiped her tears away. "I-I'm so sorry for making you feel uncomfortable....I'm sorry for bothering you..."

He didn't understand why she was apologizing to him, it wasn't even her fault that they got locked in a room.

"Do whatever you want, nanodayo. Y-Your not making me uncomfortable or bothered...s-stop apologizing for things you d-didn't do." he stuttered.

"Ugh...b-but! I'm still sorry!" she cried like a river that's flowing in.

"Don't cry." he stated as he grabbed his handkerchief from his pockets.

He twisted himself around as he was now facing her, he wiped away Mikan's tears using his handkerchief.

"Thank you, Midorima-kun." she told him as he was done wiping away her tears.

"I-I didn't wiped away your tears because I wanted to...I just thought that you might stop crying i-if I wiped away your tears, nanodayo."

She smiled at him gently, her eyes were puffed red as he told her kind words that touched her little heart.

"I've been thinking about it, but...why are you carrying an orange with you?" she asked.

Midorima lifted the delicious looking orange in his hand, "This is today's lucky item—orange!"

"Lucky item? Oh, you mean Oha Asa horoscopes...?"

"Yeah. Apparently, Cancers will be trapped by someone's foolishness. I don't even know why my lucky item is a fruit, an orange."

"You strongly believe in the fortune telling, huh? So much that you go lengths to provide your lucky item."

"Of course, Oha Asa horoscopes is never wrong."

Mikan wanted badly to tell him that sometimes the horoscopes aren't always 100% accurate, but for the sake of his belief, she didn't want it to shatter so she decided not to say anything.

"Aren't you scared of the darkness, Midorima-kun...?" she asked.

"Not really. How about you? Why are you so scared?" he asked.

"Well, you see, to tell you the truth...when I was younger, I was careless and slipped through the rocks as I fell into a crevice. It was so dark in there! I think by that time, my fear of darkness as awakened." she told him.

    Flashback

The younger version of me was playing along the hill, running, as I was chasing a pretty butterfly.

Mommy told me to be careful, but I didn't as I ended up slipping through the rocks and fell into a crevice.

It was so dark and narrow there as I was stuck between the rocks, I cried out for help, truly afraid.

I was successfully rescued there by a boy who was the same age as me, he always come when I'm crying.

"Falling in a crevice, huh? Talk about being reckless." Midorima retorted.

"Well...I can't help it. The butterfly was really pretty...!" she defended.

They spent the rest of the time talking about some random things, forgetting their current situation, it seems like Mikan's fright was gone thanks to Midorima who kept her in company.

"I bet my Mom is so worried right now..." she suddenly said.

"What else could we do? We are stuck in here, I doubt someone will open the door for us till later..." he said.

Mikan covered her mouth as she yawned, slightly drowsy and sleepy. She leaned on the wall as she looked up at the window that was giving them a little bit of light from the moon.

"Good thing tomorrow is Saturday, I wish someone would open up the door for us then." she stated.

"You said it. I seriously don't want to miss Oha Asa horoscope." he replied.

There was no use of calling for help at the middle of the night, there were probably no more guards left in he campus. Everybody must've had gone home, I mean, it's midnight!

Feeling powerless and hopeless, they have no choice but to spend the night and endure their growling stomachs.

"Seriously, once I knew who locked the door without checking if there are some people in the storage room....I'll surely...ughh..."

"You'll do what?"

Midorima faced her with a straight face, he was dead-serious.

"I'll shoot them."

Mikan gaped, surprised. "W-What? You can't shoot them!"

Unknown to Mikan, Midorima had a different kind of shooting, what he actually meant is to shoot the person who locked them, in the ring. If it was possible.

After arguing for Midorima's shooting, they soon stopped as they knew that they should stop waisting precious energy than they already have.

Mikan was getting sleepy, she was already exhausted and tired. So she decided to get some sleep. She closed her eyes as her head slowly leaned on Midorima's shoulder, making him flinched.

"Sakura, what are you—?!"

He stopped in his sentence as he saw her sleeping peacefully, her head was leaning on his shoulder. He didn't want to wake up the girl any longer as he just let out a long sigh.

"What am I supposed to do with you, nanodayo?" he mumbled.

A shred of light that has shone on her face from the moonlight, she had a peaceful look. A strand of orange tresses fell on her face as he picked up the strand and plucked it behind her ear.

"What have you done to make me feel this way, Sakura?"

Soon enough, he also felt sleepy as he rested his head on top of hers and has fallen into a deep sleep. They were sleeping like a couple.

The next day, someone has finally opened the door to the storage room. They slowly woke up from their slumber after hearing the shuffling sounds of noise.

"What are you two doing here?! Go home now." it was a security guard who opened the locked door.

"The door......" Midorima started.

".....Is finally opened!" Mikan finished.

The two of them stood up as they gathered around their things and went straight home, as for Mikan, she was trying to get her ears ready for another earful shot from her dear Mother that will probably lecture her to no end.

She was sitting on the train seat with Midorima next to her as she covered her ears, it made the boy confused.

"Why are you covering your ears?" he asked.

"I could hear my mom's shouting from here already....I'm so scared to come back home now!" she cried.

Little did she knew that her Mother was standing outside the front door, waiting for her lovely daughter to come back home. She was indeed worried to no end.
