1. This World
I felt sick to my stomach, unable to move as I curled up in a ball, thinking that would help. It really didn't. My mind was dizzy, turning around and around like a Mary-go-round. I was not by any means in a good mood, or health at the moment. It felt like I nearly broke every bone in my body. Ok, that was probably an exaggeration. But I was aching terribly.
I looked over my shoulder, trying to make out whatever was behind me. No good. My vision was blurring, probably about to black out any moment now. Why do I even feel like this? I don't know. I really don't know. It was hard to even think straightly. My whole head felt fuzzy, like old television static. My blinks were becoming heavier and heavier. Sleep. I was going to fall deeply into sleep any moment now. 3...2..1.
"Wake up." The voice spoke flatly. No emotion was in it what so ever. I opened my eyes to the daylight sun. Burning heavy and bright. It must be around, 1:00 pm? Just a hunch. The sky was a clear deep blue. No clouds were in the way, just the cool calm colour. It was like, a scene from a movie. All seems right, all is at peace. In a field of soft earthy grass. What a great place to end up. Honestly, it was weird. I was in so much pain, just a couple seconds ago. Now it's non existent. Like, it was a dream. So faint.
I lifted my head up, to gaze around at the field I was lying in. Not any sign of houses or community. Then, it occurred to me. What I did see, was many upon many other bodies dazing off in a slumber. Why were they all here? What caused them to even sleep? I guess I was bound to be a little curious, especially because most of my memories were hazy. What ever happened, I want to know.
I picked myself up, on to my feet. I looked around in different directions, trying to see if anyone else was awake yet. None of them seemed to be, maybe I should take a walk around. I decided to go left, searching around the numerous bodies. There were so many people, at least, to many to just be casually sleeping in a field. While I stared upon the faces of everyone else, none of them had their eyes open. Huh, strange. Maybe it's early or something? I don't know, probably not. It looks like the afternoon. I was beyond confused for the moment being. None of this was adding up for me. The only explanation I could come up with was, we threw a party and got extremely drunk so we all just sort of collapsed here. And that idea was completely stupid. Still very unlikely.
I sighed, trudging my feet along as I walked. What now? The question was burning in my mind. It'd be extremely appreciated if I had even the slightest hint. My brain was stalling, no ideas were coming to me. My theories were bland and pointless.
Then, as if they were possessed all by the same ghost, they rise from the ground. Standing. All in perfect sync. I'm shocked at how, together that was. Creepy though, it was extremely creepy. Just watching this. They all seemed like robots at first, until they looked around at each other with confused expressions on their faces. They probably wanted to know the same thing as me. What the hell was going on?
"Hey look!" Someone shouted, their voice considerably raspy. They were pointing up at the sky. It was... Breaking? Was that even possible? Somehow it was, as I watched it crumble and shatter just as a substance similar to glass. Light was emerging from each and every crack and crevice. All eyes were watching. That, I can guarantee. Most likely the only thing I can guarantee at this moment. Awe struck me as this pale white light shone brighter as the hole in the sky grew bigger. A hand became visible as it peered from the light. Then another hand, it was reaching out towards us. Suddenly in one instant, I could see the whole figure and face of the person from the light. It was a young man.
He appeared confident in his posture, wearing long royal like robes in a pure shade of purple. His hair was a strange brownish orange, and he was probably quite strong judging by his large shoulders and bulk. I realized that my appearance was a complete mystery to me. I could tell I had dark hair that fell over my eyes, and some what tan skin, but all my proportions and face, was rather lost on me.
"Welcome, welcome." He greeted us, voice booming. Everyone was in a trance state. Just staring at him. It was pretty evident in my mind. This guy was trying to be a god sort of figure in the eyes of these people. Great. Well, for some it seemed to be working.
"Now, most of you just woke up, but you still are probably wondering, 'why am I here? Why can't I remember anything?' Something on the line of that." He continued, clearly about to give a speech to us. Fine by me. I want answers.
"Well let me tell you, forget what ever, tiny fraction of your brain that tells you anything about that life you lived before. Because, oh, how your life is going to change." My feelings start to get mixed up as his speech goes on. What ever he's planning, I don't like it. But I know it, in the back of my head, he's familiar to me. I know this guy. But from where?
"This whole world, the one you are in right now, belongs to me. I control the time, area, weather, etc. oh yeah, and I also control the people. That's right, you guys, all one hundred of you, are my puppets." He grins, like a mad man. Perfectly describing who he is truly. Just that word sends shivers down my spine, puppets. I don't quite understand how, but he has us on strings. Fear becomes more and more intense and evident in me. Things are about to get bad, very very soon.
"While I can't just control you with the slightest slide of hand, I can however, control you with fear." His face already scared me, he was clearly pleased of every word he said. Smiling so hysterically, it looked like his smile would not stretch any wider.
"So, I'm being nice right now. I want to, play a game. Nothing simple though, no no. That wouldn't be fun. This little, game, ugh, only has three rules. Easy to understand, hard to follow." His words roll off his tongue, making me think he's given this speech before. It instantly makes me uncomfortable. In my head I know though, things have only just begun.
"You see, you are all average teenagers, children, what ever. Living life in a beautiful world. To maintain this, beautiful world though you need to obey the fact that, I don't want any reproduction. No, more of you should be brought into this world. It'll just ruin things. Also it's just not pretty. We have no means of delivering those things." The way he talks about babies makes me think he doesn't like them. At all. Referring to them as 'things' is a big give away.
"Also, no guns. Guns are to easy. I mean, you shoot the person, they die. Seriously, you could be miles away from the person. Don't even get to see their suffering face." He then pauses looking around, "right, probably should of put this last rule first. Each and everyday, one person must die. No more, no less. Got it? Good." I feel a cold shiver being sent down my back. He, wants us, to kill people? Oh, no. No. I won't- I can't- wait... I can. I have. The smallest memory runs over in my brain. I can't even remember the victim, or why. Why did I kill them? But the guilt, every once of it follows. I clutch my stomach, hurled over in a crouch. Damn it. I look completely helpless and weak now. Well, I'm done. I don't care. All that could go wrong, has happened. In just a small time frame too.
I want help. I need help. Seriously, this can't be happening. I don't believe it. I refuse to. No! Stop being ridiculous! Gather some courage and stand up! You may already feel defeat, but still, the 'game' hasn't even started.
"So, I think, we established this quite nicely. Let us begin." He finishes. My whole head draws a blank. But it becomes more clear to me. This guy, is so familiar. He's... He's... My. I try to place my finger on the word, but my train of thought is lost as the world before me starts to shift.
"Wha-what's going on?" Someone asks, as most of us fall down.
"I'm just changing things a bit. This isn't quite the place I pictured things to take place." The 'ruler' I guess, says.
Everything starts to change all to fast, and I know, that it's a metaphor. Because all our lives, are about to change, all to fast.
