Spongebob rant
So I'm watching Spongebob with my sisters, who no longer like it. My brother put it on the TV and he and I watched, then I left it on when he went back to his room. My sister says "Can we change the channel?" I say "the episode is almost over." Later in the episode she says "Kids don't learn anything from this show." I got so (sorry to swear, but I'm really passionate about spongebob) pissed off just from that comment. Sure, the show is aimed towards kids and therefore has kid based antics, but there are lessons to be learned. The entire first movie is about Spongebob learning that it's okay to be a kid and it's okay to be silly. That if you believe in yourself, you can achieve anything. That you can defy the odds. You can do what others think you can't.
These are direct quotes from the movie:
"I guess you're right, Plankton. I am just a kid. And you know, I've been through a lot in the past six days, five minutes, twenty-seven-and-a-half seconds. And if I've learned anything during that time, It's that you are who you are. And no amount of mermaid magic or managerial promotion or some other third thing... can make me anything more than what I really am inside: A kid. But that's okay. Because I did what everyone said a kid couldn't do. I made it to Shell City, and I beat the Cyclops, and I rode the Hasselhoff, and I brought the crown back. So, yeah, I'm a kid. And I'm also a goofball. And a wing nut. And a Knucklehead McSpazatron! [oh, and these are names Spongebob is called at the beginning of the movie.] But most of all, I'm... I'm... I'm... I'm a goofy goober rock!" [Spongebob bursts out into a song about accepting that you're a kid]

"After going on your life-changing journey, you now realize you don't want what you thought you wanted. What you really wanted was inside you all along."
-Squidward
SpongeBob: "Well, it looks like what everybody said about us is true, Patrick."
Patrick: "You mean that we're attractive?"
SpongeBob: "No, that we're just kids. A couple of kids in way over their heads. We were doomed from the start. I mean, look at us. We didn't even come close to the crown. We let everybody down. We failed."
...
Spongebob: "Shell City is a gift shop? But if this is Shell City, then where's the...?" [Camera zooms out to show Neptune's crown sitting on a cushion]
Patrick and SpongeBob: "Crown!"
SpongeBob: "Neptune's crown. This is Shell City. Pat, we did make it."
Patrick: "Yeah, I guess we did."
SpongeBob: [sniffles] "We did all right for a couple of goofballs." [Each sheds a single tear of joy]
Oh well, I guess those aren't good lessons to learn. They shouldn't learn that from a silly kids movie that doesn't have anything to learn from. Honestly smh.
And let's not forget: the show was created by a marine biologist named Stephen Hillenburg (rest in peace) TO TEACH KIDS ABOUT MARINE LIFE!!
