Gibson was clearly deep in thought as he looked at his remaining Pokéballs. But unlike before where he seemed to be trying to annoy Ash by taking his time, this time he was clearly putting careful thought into his decision, as this was the last match. Eventually, a smirk formed on his face as he reached for his last Pokéball. "Tell me Ash, do you like Kaiju movies?" Gibson asked.

(Kaiju: Japanese for strange beast. Refers to the Japanese genre of movies that feature giant monsters.)

"I guess so?!" Ash replied, confused on how that pertained to the battle.

"Good, because you're about to be in one. Go Tyranitar!" Gibson said as he threw his final Pokéball. The Tyranitar emerged from his Pokéball in the air, and cracked the ground when he landed. Ash looked at the massive Tyranitar in amazement as he had flashbacks to the totem Pokémon in the Alola region, as this Tyranitar was easily twice the size of a normal one. Tyranitar then gave a mighty roar that made it seem as if the whole building shook.

Ash thought he knew who his next Pokémon was going to be, but after seeing this massive Pokémon, and the mega stone on one of his horns, Ash knew now who he had to use. "Greninja, I choose you!"

"Both trainers ready?"

Ash and Gibson nodded.

"Battle resume!"

"Greninja, use Double Team and charge in."

"Tyranitar, use Earthquake."

At least a dozen Greninja appeared and were charging in for Tyranitar. Meanwhile Tyranitar raises his right leg, then stomps down hard, causing the ground to shake violently.

"Greninja, jump up to dodge and use Water Shuriken!" Greninja jumped up into the air just as the ground shook and the clones were all destroyed. He then slapped the Xs on his thighs to create two shurikens, slapped them together, and threw them at Tyranitar.

"Tyranitar, use Crunch to counter." Tyranitar's teeth glowed white as he prepared to bite down on the shuriken. However as it got near it split back into two, resulting in Tyranitar biting down and destroying one shuriken while the other hit him in the chest.

"Now use Hydro Pump!"

"Block with Ice beam!"

Both Pokémon opened their mouths and fired their respective attacks. They then collided midway, resulting in the water spraying out in every direction and raining onto the battlefield, freezing almost instantly as it landed.

"Greninja, use Double Team again and skate on the ice."

Greninja slaps the Xs on his thighs and creates two blades of water, then puts them on the bottom of his feet. The blades turn to ice almost immediately as he begins skating on the field with dozens of other Greninja.

"Tyranitar, use Earthquake to clear out the clones."

Once again Tyranitar stomps his right foot, causing the battlefield to shake. It seems all clones were wiped away, with a single Greninja sneaking up from behind.

Gibson smirks. "Tyranitar, use Thunder Punch."

Tyranitar's right fist sparks with electricity as he turns around and punches Greninja in the stomach, knocking him back with the super effective attack.

"Alright Greninja, time to pull out all the stops. LETZ GO!"

"Well that's a new one. I guess we'll respond in kind. Tyranitar, Mega Evolve!" Gibson said upon watching Greninja's transformation.

"Tyranitar, use Sandstorm."

Tyranitar jumps into the air while glowing several different colors. Upon landing, sand shoots out in every direction and begins swirling around, engulfing nearly the entire battlefield.

"Greninja, use Double Team and Hydro Pump."

Five clones appear and open their mouths to shoot five Hydro Pumps while spinning. They spray out in every direction, catching the sand and clearing the sandstorm.

"Not bad," Gibson complimented. "Tyranitar, use Giga Impact!"

"Greninja, Water Shuriken!"

Tyranitar becomes surrounded by spiraling orange streaks as he charges towards Greninja, who pulled the large Water Shuriken from his back and threw it towards Tyranitar. The Water Shuriken collided with Tyranitar, causing him to slow down briefly. However the Giga Impact overpowers the Water Shuriken, destroying it before Tyranitar continues on and slams into Greninja, sending him flying into the wall.

"Tyranitar, use Hyper Beam."

"Greninja, try and block with Dark Pulse."

Tyranitar opens his mouth as a dark glow can be seen as he builds up the energy for the attack. Meanwhile Greninja gets himself to his feet and forms a dark purple orb of energy next to his side between his hands. Both Pokémon release their attacks and they collided again. The two attacks fought for dominance, but again Tyranitar overpowers Greninja, resulting in Greninja getting hit, with the resulting explosion sending Greninja back into the wall.

Both Ash and Greninja are breathing heavily as both of them are being pushed to their limits. 'Greninja can't handle much more of this, so I need to end this fast,' Ash thought to himself, then he was hit with an idea.

"Tyranitar, use Dragon Dance."

"Now's the chance Greninja, use Grass Whistle!"

Greninja pulled a blade of grass out of his mouth and began to blow into it. The blade glowed green as music started to come from it. Tyranitar was dancing around while being surrounded by a red and pink misty aura when he heard the song. His movements soon became sluggish and sloppy as the aura faded, and he dropped to a sitting position with his head down and fell asleep.

"Now Greninja, use Night Slash over and over again. Don't let up!"

Greninja slapped the Xs on his thighs and formed two purple blades of water as he charges in. Greninja jumped into the air and as he came down on the massive Pokémon and began slashing at him wildly. He then jumped back before lunging forward and striking in an X pattern. Greninja delivered an onslaught of strikes for almost two minutes before Tyranitar started to move. "One last attack! So make it a good one, then back away!" Ash called out, realizing Tyranitar was waking up and distance between them was going to be needed right now. Greninja nodded before jumping up into the air one last time.

"Tyranitar, above you!" Gibson yelled.

Tyranitar looked up groggily, just in time to see Greninja strike his face with his blades before striking the rest of his body before he landed and jumped away. Tyranitar roared in pain from the massive amount of damage he took while he was asleep and just then. Tyranitar then locked eyes on Greninja, full of rage from the pain he felt.

"We'll finish this now! Use one final full power Giga Impact!" Gibson commanded.

"Water Shuriken."

"Hah, Water Shuriken can't stop Giga Impact," Gibson commented with an amused tone as Tyranitar took off towards Greninja, and Greninja threw his shuriken.

"I know, but it can slow it down. Now use Shadow Sneak!"

Greninja's shadow extended out and reached Tyranitar just as the Water Shuriken hit. Tyranitar was stopped briefly, just long enough to be caught by the shadow. The shadow shared Greninja's appearance and began attacking Tyranitar, who roared and struggled against the attack. After several strikes, the shadow released Tyranitar, who fell to the ground as he reverted back to his normal form.

"Tyranitar is unable to battle, making Greninja is the winner!"

Upon Ash's victory, Gibson presented Ash with his eighth and final badge, the Eclipse Badge.

They then packed up the test equipment and headed back to the Pokémon Center to share this information with Professor Oak. On the way, Gary questioned Ash about his Melmetal, to which Ash replied that he would ask Professor Kukui to transfer him to Professor Oak's lab as soon as he was done.

The four young adults crammed into one of the video phone booths and proceeded to call the lab.

"Hello this is Professor Oak," Professor Oak answered on audio.

"Hey gramps, it's Gary," Gary replied to identify himself.

"Ah hello Gary, and hello everyone else," Professor Oak greeted as his image appeared on the screen. "So I take it your initial research is complete?"

"You guessed it. We even have battle data for both Drakeons," Gary replied.

"Splendid! So please tell me more about them," Professor Oak asked excitedly.

"Well for starters, I've decided to classify them as a Dragon and Flying Type," Gary started. "And the flying typing for them will cause a lot of books to be revised on how we classify Flying Types."

"Really? How so?" Professor Oak asked.

"Drakeon can build up a Dragon Pulse in its blast chamber, but instead of using it to attack, it's able to open several veins connected to the blast chamber to send the energy to its wings. Several orifices then open and release the energy, essentially making it a jet propelled Flying Type," Lillie explained.

"Truly astounding. Only one question, who are you?" Professor Oak asked Lillie.

"I'm sorry, my name is Lillie Aether. We met several years ago when principal Oak brought us to your lab for the school's twentieth anniversary," Lillie replied.

"Oh yes I'm sorry, my memory isn't what it used to be," Professor Oak apologized as he rubbed his forehead.

"Gramps, she's also my girlfriend," Gary added with a smug smirk.

Professor Oak then locked eyes on Gary as an eyebrow raised. "And how long has this been going on?"

"Since the fossil dig a few months ago," Gary replied as he put his arm around Lillie and pulled her in closer, still giving a smug smirk.

"Well that's a new record. I'll have Tracey prepare the lab as the wedding venue," Professor Oak replied with a shocked then teasing tone.

"Gramps!" Gary shouted as both he and Lillie were bright red.

"Haha, I mean, the fact you've kept her around this long, you must love her. So why waste time?" Professor Oak teased, before getting serious again. "But in all honesty, I'm happy for you."

"Thank you," both Gary and Lillie replied.

"Now how about evolution? How does this Pokémon evolve?" Professor Oak asked.

"That's the hard part. We don't know," Gary replied.

"There are just too many variables. There were two of them, they were in danger," Lillie elaborated.

"Their trainers and parents were in danger, there was a storm rolling in, and who knows what other variables there could be where they evolved," Gary finished.

"I see, well on your way back to the airport, swing by the site where they evolved and see what you can turn up. I look forward to your return so we can get to work writing your first published research paper," Professor Oak stated.

"Wait what?! You're not writing it?" Gary asked in shock.

"Of course not. You did the research. You should be the one making a name for yourself. And this is the type of research that will help you make a real name for yourself in the Pokémon research community," Professor Oak replied enthusiastically.

"But-" Gary started before being interrupted.

"Ladies, could you step out for a bit? I need to speak with Ash and Gary about something important," Professor Oak asked.

The girls nodded and walked out of the booth, closing it back up as they left.

"Professor, what's going on?" Ash asked.

Professor Oak then sighed. "Ash, you are like a second grandson to me, so I want to tell you this as well," Professor Oak said with a serious expression.

"Gramps, you're scaring us," Gary commented with a worried look.

"Sorry, but recent events are forcing me to take certain actions, and I want as few people to know about it as possible for as long as possible," Professor replied as he closed his eyes. The expression on his face showed the seriousness of the topic, so Gary and Ash made certain all attention was on him. "Over the last few months, my memory has been getting worse. I attributed it to stress and a lack of sleep, but Tracey didn't. A few weeks ago he dragged me to my doctor and had him start running some tests. They still have a few more left, but the doctor is almost certain that I'm in the early stages of Alzheimers," Professor Oak explained with a solum look.

"What? No no, you're as sharp as ever. Just the other day you were making a ton of observations about the Drakeons," Ash replied in shock.

"That is a long lasting trait of mine, it'll probably last longer with me than most other things," Professor Oak said with a weak smile, he then looked at Gary to see the look of shock and disbelief on his face, hoping this was some kind of sick joke. "This is why I want you back Gary. I want to impart as much of my wisdom and knowledge that I can before my mind is too far gone to even know your face. You are my successor, you will carry on my work."

"Gramps, no. You're going to finish your research, and publish more papers. Your name will be etched in the history books as the greatest Pokémon Researcher that ever lived. And I'll continue to be your pain in the ass grandson that works for you to make sure you do all this," Gary said as he fought to hold back the tears.

"Gary, I wish it were that simple. I don't even trust myself to do any tests anymore. Just yesterday I ran a test twice because I couldn't remember doing it the first time. I may be remembered as one of the greatest, but a man is defined by his legacy. I raised your father to be a great man, as he did for you. But I taught you everything I know about Pokémon. When my body is long since buried, the Oak name will continue on through you, as you make your own name as a researcher that will be held at the same regard as my own. Now come home. I'll even buy Lillie's plane ticket so she can come as well. Just come back."

Both Ash and Gary were both shedding tears from this news. Professor Oak had been there for them both their entire lives, and the thought that he one day won't be there anymore was something they never wanted to think of.

"Come on now, buck up you two. I'm not dead yet," Professor Oak said in an upbeat tone. "Blue is already planning a grand getaway for me. Right after the Indigo League in a few months, the two of us are going to be working on my bucket list while I can still remember it. We'll be flying all over the world. There are far too many things I haven't done or seen yet, and I want to do them while I can still remember I want to do them."

The two young men smiled at the thought, as they thought of Professor Oak doing things like racing sports cars, climbing mountains, skydiving, and in Gary's mind, wooing beautiful women.

At the outskirts of Madrid, William was on top of his Dragonite, coming in for a landing at his home. It was dark and after midnight, leaving them both very tired, and it didn't help William that he had been sitting through a very long meeting about the upcoming Torrent League. Dragonite made a quick descent and landed between the barn and house with a hard thud. William then jumped off and patted Dragonite's back.

"Thanks for the ride, now go get some sleep. We won't have an early morning again, so sleep as long as you like," William instructed.

"I thought it was early mornings every day until the league?" Dragonite asked.

"It's supposed to be, but not late nights. That son of a bitch Azazel might be the League Champion, but he doesn't really have anything else in his life. So late nights aren't a big deal for him, but I don't do both in one day. We'll show up mid morning, and if he has a problem with it, he can kiss my ass," William replied with a stern tone.

Dragonite chuckled at her trainers response and proceeded into the barn to grab a snack before going to bed. William proceeded into his house as quietly as possible, which really wasn't necessary.

"Your job sucks," said William's wife Aubrey as he entered.

"Got caught up with some of the league preparations. Don't worry, I'm not letting this shit happen again unless it can't be helped,"  William replied with a yawn.

"Mhm, here," Aubrey said as he handed William a pot of coffee. "They are still at it, and I don't do deliveries. I'm going to bed. Don't stay up much longer, you need sleep too." Aubrey then gave William a kiss and proceeded to their bedroom. William sighed and then went downstairs into the basement.

As he turned the corner, he saw Kris asleep on the couch with a book over her face and right arm hanging off. William sighed as he shook his head, and walked over to remove the book from her face. About a week ago, Silver and Kris arrived at his home, looking for information on Team Rocket. William didn't know much more than they did, but he did have a direction to research to figure it out. Seeing that they didn't know what Team Rocket's time table was to make their move, Silver and Kris decided to stay at his home to assist William's other guest in the research.

"I come bearing coffee," William announced as he entered the office with the computers.

"Good, and we are holding answers," Riley replied as he rubbed his eyes.

"Good, so fill me in. What was Team Rocket after in Sinnoh?" William asked as he handed Riley the pot of coffee.

"You should know this wasn't easy. The internet wasn't any help this time," Silver chimed in as Riley filled his cup with coffee.

"Well considering they were at a psychic temple, I'm pretty sure the psychics pretty much destroyed any sources of information on it they could find that they didn't control. So what is it?" William replied, sounding irritated at the end.

"You probably have the only books they don't have on the subject. And even then, we had to piece the information together since none of your books have much information about it," Riley stated as he passed the pot of coffee to Silver.

"Yes, I acknowledge you two worked very hard," William said before getting cut off.

"Don't forget Kris, she's the one who found the piece of information that said what was in the temple. We just figured out the details about it," Silver interrupted.

"Great! I'll thank her when she wakes up! Now tell me what the hell it is!" William said as he was clearly annoyed that they were dragging this out.

"Take a seat," Silver said.

"And we'll tell you about The Plate of Acreus." Riley finished.
