Nineteen years ago
A Dragonite was flying over Pallet Town, with a younger William riding on her back. They had just left a restaurant in the downtown area, and was bringing a bag of food with him. Nearly two months ago Giovanni made his bloody rise to power as he killed nearly everyone who opposed him as leader of Team Rocket. Those that survived either fled and went into hiding, or went silent to act as a spy for those working to overthrow him.
Red and Delia chose to go into hiding and waited for an opportunity to strike back for him killing Delia's parents, and then after three weeks they found their opportunity. With the help of William and a few spies they infiltrated the base and fought their way to Giovanni. Sadly though only Red faced off against him and he lost his life in the process, with the last sight of him was of his lifeless body falling through a trap door with a still living Giovanni as he escaped. At that point Delia lost herself to a blind rage and began trying to force the trapdoor back opened, but it was no use as it was too strong. However Delia wouldn't stop, forcing William to knock her out so they could escape before Giovanni's loyal Team Rocket members overran their location and they were either captured or killed.
After a few minutes William and Dragonite were coming up onto a fairly large house atop a hill, with a windmill attached to the back. They landed behind the house and William dismounted Dragonite as he saw a man with graying brown hair walking towards him with a forced smile as he hid the sadness he was holding.
"Good Afternoon Professor Oak, I come barring lunch. There's one with your name on it, and the two big ones are for Delia and Lucario," William greeted as he held out a plastic bag.
"Thank you William, I'm happy you're here," Professor Oak replied as he took the bag.
"Delia?" William guess as to why the Professor was happy he was there.
Professor Oak nodded. "I know I don't know much about you Aura Guardians, but I do know Pokémon and I understand general human physiology. So I can feel confident saying that she's going to seriously hurt herself if she doesn't stop. Pokémon are significantly more powerful than humans, so sparing with one can easily be extremely dangerous."
"How long?" William asked after he sighed and shook his head.
"How many days have you been gone?" Professor Oak asked.
"For Mews sake," William said as he shook his head and rubbed his temple. "We can spare with Pokémon some, they just have a higher level of endurance. But in her mental state I doubt that it's a good idea. She's no doubt pushing herself beyond her limits?"
"I'd say so. I've been checking on her several times a day, and when I find her on the ground there's always a new cut or broken bone. I'm treating her the best I can, and thankfully Lucario is taking care of the bones, but at this rate she's going to kill herself," Professor Oak replied with a concerned expression.
"Well I think I'll be able to help," William stated.
"What, you found him?!" Professor Oak replied in shock.
William nodded. "I'm just worried about how she'll be after she's done with him," William said then turned around and mounted back onto Dragonite.
"They were sparing by the pond in that direction," Professor Oak said as he pointed. William nodded and then flew off on Dragonite.
Dragonite flew until she and William saw Delia and Lucario sparing by the pond, and came in for a landing. After William dismounted Dragonite he walked over to Delia, who acted as if she hadn't noticed he was there. The sight of Delia wasn't pretty to say the least. Her hair was a mess, with a bandage wrapped around her forehead with a stain of blood above her left eye. At one point she did have clothes, but her clothes were torn to shreds from her training, leaving her in a sports bra and denim shorts, that were pants went William last saw her. One couldn't tell if she ripped pieces off herself to use as bandages or the training itself tore her clothes, as scraps were seen stained with blood in a pile of used dressings.
"I don't care what you have to say unless it's Gio's location," Delia said as she and Lucario continued to spar.
"Well I do have some information about him, but you're not getting it until you two take a bath, I can smell you from here," William said as he pinched his nose.
Delia and Lucario stopped and glared at William. "Do you know where he is or not?" Delia demanded.
"I don't know where he is, but I know where he will be, and the perfect time to make our move," William replied as he continued to pinch his nose.
"Where!" Delia demanded as her eyes narrowed on him.
William then removed his backpack and tossed it at her feet. Delia quickly picked it up and opened it, thinking it held the information she was looking for. However she dropped the bag on the ground and glared at William when she saw it contained shampoo, body wash, towels, and a change of clothes.
"Take a bath and meet me up at the lab. I also brought lunch, so I can fill you in as you eat," William said and turned around to climb back into Dragonite. Delia then charged at him furious. She attempted to attack him from behind, but he could sense her presence and intentions. William side stepped at the last second, dodging her punch, then grabbed her arm and threw her into the pond. Lucario tried to attack William as well, but Dragonite used dragon tail to hit him and send him flying into the pond as well. William then pulled out the shampoo, body wash, and a wash cloth, and threw them into the pond so they landed by Delia. "Since you're already in there you might as well take that bath," William yelled, then turned around and left on Dragonite.
About an hour later William was sitting at a picnic table reading a book as he drank a bottle of water and waited for Delia. He then put his book down and smiled as he looked to see Delia and Lucario walking up to him. Delia was wearing a pink tank top, cropped black yoga pants, and a pair of pink and black sneakers, while her hair was in a tight ponyta tail. Beside her was Lucario, his fur clearly showed the blue that earlier was so dingy due to dirt and blood.
As they arrived at the table William smelled the air and smiled. "Much better. Now take a seat and eat, I got you both subs," William said as he gestured to the two foot long sub sandwiches in front of him.
"You said you know where Gio is," Delia said as she sat down. Ever since her parents were murdered by him and she was forced into hiding for her own safety, this had been the number one thought in her mind.
"I said I know where he will be. Although technically I know where he is too, but it would be a suicide mission to go there," William replied. Delia and Lucario both stared at William with emotionless expressions as they ate their food. William sweatdropped then cleared his throat as he continued. "Anyway, apparently Giovanni has been held up in the Celadon City base, the one under the arcade." Delia's eyes widened as her body shook with rage at learning how close he was. William saw this, and quickly continued. "But this isn't the same base, he's fortified it and added additional security. There's no way we could hope to make it in on our own, honestly it would probably take about a dozen well trained aura guardians to get to him there."
"Then how do we get to him?" Delia asked angrily through her teeth.
"Like I said, I know where he will be," William restated smugly. "Apparently he has taken a liking to his position as the Viridian city gym leader that your father got him, but he hasn't been there since the take over. Clearly he can see how much his safety is compromised by going there, but the Pokémon League has taken notice and threatened to shut down the gym. I'm guessing he saw this coming, because he had an underground subway built connecting the small base under the gym with the one in Lavender Town, and it was just completed."
"So we attack while he's at the gym, and move fast to get him before he can escape?" Delia questioned.
"No, he's made the base too strong that we couldn't make it in time," William replied.
"Then how do we get him?" Delia asked sounding annoyed.
"The forman responsible for the tunnels construction is loyal to you, so he build us a way into the tunnel by the gym," William said, then pulled out a role of blueprints. "As you can see, the tunnel runs along side the Viridian City Sewer system, and is its closest by the gym. The Forman had a tunnel built there to connect the two, giving us a way in. He also told me that Giovanni will be making his first trip in the subway tomorrow morning."
"Finally, he'll pay for taking everyone I love from me," Delia replied as tears began to well up in her eyes.
"I was thinking we could do things a little differently. Sneak into the tunnel and plant a few home made bombs to take him out as he arrives. I've already tracked down some..." William started before Delia cut him off.
"No. I want to look him in the eyes when he dies, for him to know it was me that killed him," Delia interrupted coldly.
"Are you sure you really want that? I mean Giovanni is..." William questioned worriedly before getting interrupted again.
"I know what Gio technically is, but I stopped seeing him as anything more than scum the second he killed my parents," Delia interrupted as she whipped the tears from her eyes.
"Are you sure, because you're still calling him Gio. I can do this so you don't have to go through with it," William replied as he looked at Delia with a concerned expression.
"You've never experienced losing someone you were bonded to like me with Red. When it was my parents I might have hesitated but now, I just feel pain, like I'm dead inside. I'm sure you can feel it. I have nothing because of him. I need to do this," Delia replied as she looked William in the eyes with an almost lifeless expression.
William couldn't argue with what he felt from her aura, she was pretty much dead, with only a sliver of her humanity left. He knew that unconditional love was the only way for that sliver to grow and heal her, but without Red, the chances of her finding someone to love like that who would love her back was next to nothing. "Ok," William conceded with a sigh. "But you won't be alone, I'm going with you, and there is nothing you can do to stop me."
Deli nodded, accepting his help.
————————————————————————
The sun had not yet risen over Viridian City, and underground Giovanni was sitting in his personal subway car sipping his coffee as his breakfast was placed down on the table in front of him. Unlike a normal subway car there were only a few seat, calming music, and several other luxuries. The only people in the car were four security guards wearing SWAT style gear, and a waiter who would leave as soon as he was done serving the Team Rocket boss. There were three other cars on the train, the first held the driver and a dozen guards, the other two each held a another three dozen guards combined.
After less than an hour the subway arrived under the Viridian City Gym. The doors for Giovanni's car opened and two of his personal guards stepped out, followed by Giovanni, then the other two. On the platform were a dozen Team Rocket grunts standing at attention in two columns, six on each side, lining the path to a set of large heavy steel doors that could only be opened from the other side.
As Giovanni and his security walked one of the grunts noticed what looked like a set of blue glowing eyes appear in the shadows across from him. Then two glowing blue balls were seen, and what appeared to be a blue glowing rope extended from each. Quickly they moved as the other grunts on his side saw it, realizing they moved more like whips. In one swift movement the two aura whips sliced right through all the grunts in that side. Yelling was heard as everyone started to draw their weapons and face that direction, but the other grunts didn't fare any better as they all dropped to the ground and their heads rolled to Giovanni's feet. Behind where his grunts once stood was William dressed all in black, with an aura scythe. Opposite of William was Delia, also dressed in all black with an aura whip in each of her hands. Giovanni's security detail tried to get him back on the subway, but no sooner than they started to turn him around the subway car exploded in flames, killing their reinforcements inside. As they looked in horror, Lucario and Dragonite were seen walking out of the flames.
"There's no escape now Giovanni," Delia said coldly. Giovanni now felt fear for the first time when looking at Delia, as she never called him by his full first name.
"Delia please, I know we can work this out, just talk with me. Trust me, it would be well worth your time," Giovanni pleaded as his men lined up their shots. They knew what they were up against and chose patience for now to ensure their effectiveness and hope reinforcements arrive before they attacked, as guns rarely worked well enough against aura guardians.
"Always sounding like a business man trying to make a deal. Did we ever actually mean anything to you?" Delia asked. "You were always there for me when mother was being too tough with my training, you helped me handle the weight of my first kill, you always made time for me, and when I told you how Red was the one you were the first I told. Tell me, was all of that time just you treating me like an investment? WAS I EVER EVEN YOUR SISTER IN YOUR EYES?!" Delia screamed the last part as tears started to flow from her eyes as the words left her mouth.
Giovanni remained composed, but clearly was bothered by his sisters words. His guards however became even more tense from her words, as they feared she would attack.
Delia had become a living legend in Team Rocket for her skills in completing missions alone that would normally take a highly trained twelve man team to complete. She was seen as even superior to her mother, because of her aura whips. Among aura guardians whips not only were seen as the most deadly, but also the most dangerous for the user, as the whips could easily kill the user as well. When Delia left to travel when she was younger, partly it was due to aura guardian training, to survive on their own for one year before the training could be considered complete. However Delia looked forward to this as a way to escape her mothers reputation, and no longer be compared to her. While on her travels, before she met Red, she decided to distinguish herself by mastering the aura whips. It was a dangerous undertaking, resulting in many self-inflicted injuries, but over time she had mastered combat with a single whip, and then worked to master having another. When she returned home after two years, not only did she have Red to present to her family as her boyfriend, but also her new skills to her mother, which shocked even her, as Delia was the first to master dual whip wheedling.
Giovanni looked as if he was about to speak when the steel doors opened and a large group of Team Rocket grunts armed with automatic weapons poured out and opened fire on William and Delia. Giovanni's security moved in close and moved him through the doors as Delia and William were forced to switch to defense and create aura barriers to protect them from the bullets.
Delia glared at Giovanni angrily as he made his way through the heavy metal doors as more grunts came out to face them, and the doors slowly began closing. William and Delia began moving closer together as neither one could attack while defending against so many shooting at them.
"I have an idea to make quick work of them, but I'll need you to keep the barrier up," William told Delia. Delia nodded and focused all her aura on the barrier. William took a stance resembling him forming an aura sphere, however his right fist remained closed. His fist began glowing blue and was getting brighter and brighter, until finally he thrust his fist forward, launching dozens of marble sized aura spheres in a wide pattern. The grunts were all hit, several multiple times. Most were just knocked out, but the few that were unfortunate enough to be hit in the throat or eyes were killed due to no bones to protect the more sensitive location. Those hit in the throat were flailing on the ground as they tried to breath, but couldn't as the aura sphere collapsed their windpipe, while those hit in the eye just laid on the ground dead as the blast on the aura sphere hit their brains and killed them almost instantly.
A few years ago, after running a Team Rocket mission with Red and Delia, William decided he needed a way to bring down a large group of people with one attack. He knew how to use a pulse of aura, but all it could do was knock a group back and off their feet. However he wanted something to knock them down and keep them down, but also not require a large amount of aura. So after months of thinking and experimenting, he developed a move that he called shotgun. It required him to focus significantly at first, to rapidly form and fire multiple small aura spheres at once and then quickly repeat for several seconds to ensure enough shots were fired. The spheres were small, so the move only required between one to two aura spheres worth of aura, depending on the size of the group he was up against. The key to this move though was to fire the small spheres fast enough, as the aura in each shot would only feel like being hit with a BB at normal speed. The higher speed allowed each shot to hit with enough force to hit a little harder than a rubber bullet, so if someone was hit in the head it was an instant knockout, and if not they would be in too much pain to get back up quickly.
William smiled proudly and looked to Delia to offer her an explanation as to what he did, but she was already running for the closing door, her focus solely on getting Giovanni. Delia arrived at the door with just enough room to get her hands in to grab the doors as they continued to close. Delia's body glowed blue and a second later the door stopped, then slowly Delia forced the door open. The motors for the doors were wining as Delia continued pushing. More grunts were arriving as Delia saw Giovanni turn a corner and set up a barrier using what looked like riot shields. Upon seeing him leave her sight Delia gave one mighty push, fully extending her arms as the motors finally burned out as she screamed, "GIOVANNI!"
