N's castle

I wandered the hallways of N's castle, completely confused as to where I was supposed to be going. Members of that 'Shadow Triad' thing had told me N wanted to meet in the center of the castle, but there were so many rooms and doors, I was easily turned around in the place. Whenever I walked into a room, it was just full of grunts. After speaking with a few of the grunts, I learned that some of them actually grew close to their Pokémon, and cared about them. I encouraged those people to seek whatever they wanted. If their view was different than N's, so be it.

Why is this castle so huge? Why can I so easily get lost? I had already gotten my Pokémon healed by N's sisters who had told me why N wanted the future he did. He was surrounded by Pokémon who mistrusted humans. Ghetsis did that on purpose. Ghetsis had done that on purpose so that N would want to rise up against the world. I was starting to think that maybe Ghetsis didn't actually care for what N had to say...

"Trainers battle to practice their skills and to grow in experience, but never to hurt their Pokémon. My lord N has realized this, deep down in his heart...but he has spent too much painful time here in this castle to admit it..."

"N has been separated from people since he was young. He was brought up with Pokémon... Pokémon that were betrayed, mistreated and hurt by bad people... Ghetsis deliberately brought only those poor Pokémon closer to N. N was touched by their plight, and started pursuing truth, thinking only of Pokémon. N's heart is pure and innocent. But there is nothing more beautiful and terrifying than innocence."

I climbed a flight of stairs which led to another long hallway. This last one was different, though. Instead of many rooms, Team Plasma flags adorned the walls, and a huge door opened into a large room in the center of the hallway.

"That must be where I'm supposed to go" I said to myself, walking towards the opening. There were statues guarding to opening of the room, and I could see Ghetsis and N talking before N noticed me. He'd turned his head in my direction in what seemed like the middle of a sentence, which had grabbed Ghetsis' attention. Ghetsis now walked towards me- towards the exit, and I backed away, giving him room to walk out, and also keeping my distance. I didn't trust him. Not an inch of me trusted him.

"Welcome, holder of the Dark Stone" Ghetsis said.

I glared at Ghetsis, but he seemed unfazed.

"The castle that appeared as if it were enveloping the Pokémon League is a symbol. It means Unova will change. The king of this castle is the strongest Trainer in the world. He is accompanied by the legendary Pokémon. He has defeated the Champion. Added to all that, his heart burns with the desire to improve the world. If that's not what makes a hero, what more do you need?"

Ghetsis seemed to be looking for a comment from me, but I said nothing. I had nothing to say to people like him.

"Now that the stage is set, we can seize people's minds and hearts. We can bring into being the world that I--no, that Team Plasma--desires more easily than you can imagine! We and only we will use Pokémon, and we shall rule the powerless populace! I've been waiting so long for this! I've kept my silence so no one could piece together what I planned. Now, those painful days are at an end! Go! Onward! Discover whether you have what it takes to be a hero! Go! Holder of the Dark Stone! In this room, you can learn whether you, too, can be a hero!"

Ghetsis stepped out of my way to let me into the room. As I stepped into the room, I noticed that it looked more like a throne room than anything. N sat on a golden throne on the far end of the room, (he must've moved when Ghetsis was ranting) his face displaying no emotions. That was not something I was used to. More often than not, every time I saw N, he had a smile on his face. Especially when it had been just the two of us.

"Hello Hilda" N said loudly, his words bouncing off the walls.

"Hello N" I said, mimicking his choice of words.

N got up from his throne and walked towards me. He walked across the long runway, his footsteps echoing throughout the room.

"I wish I didn't have to fight you, Hilda" N sighed wistfully. "Are you sure you couldn't live in my future?"

"Could you live in mine?" I asked. N looked a bit shocked at my response, but composed himself and shrugged.

"It's decided then...Reshiram, come to me!"

"Reshiram and I...lost?" N asked himself, baffled.

I looked to my new partner, Zekrom. It looked pleased that it had won its battle. It craned its neck towards me, shoving its face in my hands.

"Well done, Zekrom" I praised, rubbing its forehead.

"You pathetic child!" A voice behind me screamed. Ghetsis suddenly pushed past me, and began yelling at N.

"After all of that, do you think you're still worthy of sharing the name Harmonia with me? You good-for-nothing boy!"

N's face became sad and dreary, and his baffled expression began shattering into one of hurt.

I stayed silent. Ghetsis was N's father? N had mentioned his father finding him, but Ghetsis? They're so different- N is sweet and thoughtful, and Ghetsis is cold and nasty.

"Huh?" Was all I could manage.

Ghetsis turned from N to glare at me briefly before pacing around.

"I spurred N into pursuing the truth. The reason we reawakened the legendary Pokémon now was to give MY Team Plasma more power! Power to control the fearful masses! That at least was well done"

"I thought the goal of Team Plasma was to liberate Pokémon from people" a voice said next to me. I looked to my right, where Cheren was standing with his arms crossed. To my left, Alder stood, motionless.

Ghetsis ignored Cheren's comment and returned his rage to N, "You lost to an ordinary Trainer! There is such a thing as being too stupid! Add it up, and you are nothing more than a warped, defective boy who knows nothing but Pokémon..."

Those words crushed N. I watched him shatter right before my eyes.

"N was your puppet" Alder commented.

"So what?" Ghetsis hissed, "Once I rule the world, what you fools think won't matter!"

"N is a human being!" I yelled, "You can't just treat him like he's nothing!"

N looked at me, a small gleam of light in his eyes. "Hilda..." he whispered.

"He's a freak, girl!" Ghetsis argued.

"I think you're the freak!" I retaliated.

Ghetsis laughed evilly, "I'll destroy you, girl. Let's battle. Once you're out of the way, no one will be able to stop me!"

"What?! I created Team Plasma with my own hands. I'm absolutely perfect! I AM PERFECTION! I am the perfect ruler of a perfect new world!"

"Dude get a hobby..." Cheren muttered.

I looked to my Pokémon, who was still on the field. He was badly damaged, but he looked to me and smiled weakly.

"Thank you Serperior, return" I called, returning my partner to his Pokeball. "Sweet dreams" I whispered to his Pokeball.

"N," I called. N looked at me, his expression blank, and his eyes sad. "You don't have to be his puppet. You can be your own person. I know that you wanted your future, but people and Pokémon...we were meant to live together"

"He's nothing more than a freak without a human heart. Do you think you're going to get through to a warped person like that?!" Ghetsis hissed.

"I think you're the only one without a human heart" Cheren jabbed.

I ignored Cheren and Ghetsis to focus on N. I cautiously walked around Ghetsis to get to N. Alder and Cheren surrounded Ghetsis and dragged him out of the room, probably going to hand him off to Officer Jenny.

It was just N and I, alone in his throne room.

"I want to talk to you," he said quietly. He took my hand, and pulled me over to where his throne used to sit (before Reshiram came through and destroyed it)

"Hilda..." he said, letting go of my hand. "That day we met...I couldn't believe what Snivy had said about you. He said he wanted to travel with you. He said he cared about you. I was confused because I've never seen a Pokémon like that. Zoroark, Darmanitan, and the others were all abandoned by their trainers, so it baffled me that you and Snivy could be so close. Every time we battled, your Pokémon just kept speaking highly of you. And the closer you all became, the stronger you all became. I see that some people and Pokémon grow stronger together...I may not like your future, Hilda," N said, shoving his hands in his pockets, "but I can definitely live in it"

I felt my eyes begin to fill with tears. I threw my arms around him and buried my head in his chest. N tensed at our bodies making contact, but he eventually wrapped his arms around me, too.

I pulled away from him, "N, you're such a beautiful person," I assured, "don't let Ghetsis tell you otherwise"

N gave me a sad smile, but I could swear I saw light in his eyes.

"Alder has forgiven me..." N muttered, "but what I have to do now is something I must find myself"

N walked over to the hole in the side of the castle where Reshiram had flown in. He released Reshiram from its Pokeball and turned back to me.

"Remember in Chargestone cave when I asked you if you had a dream?" He asked.

I nodded.

"Well that dream of yours, make it happen! If anyone can, it's you"

N turned to get on Reshiram's back, but I stopped him, "N wait!"

He turned to me, and I took his necklace off and put it in his hands.

He stared at it for awhile, "Do you not want to be friends anymore?" He asked quietly.

"No, I do! Back at Twist Mountain, you gave this to me as a sign of your friendship, right?"

N nodded slowly.

"Well now I'm giving back as a sign of mine"

N smiled and put his necklace on. "Farewell, Hilda"

"No" I laughed, holding up one of my hands, "Until next time"

N gave me a high five, and climbed onto Reshiram's back. He and Reshiram flew out of the castle, far, far away.

My eyes filled with tears, and they fell down my face, "Goodbye N"

(A/N. Yes. Some of this chapter had actual quotes from the game. I couldn't figure out how to put ALL of the dialogue together, so I made up my own blah blah blah you know the drill
