HildaxN

Hilda sighed as the Ferris Wheel reached the top. She sat alone as the Ferris Wheel stopped. She took in the scenery of Nimbasa City. It was winter, and the city lights gleamed in the dark sky.

"N..." Hilda mumbled.

It had been a night like this when they had ridden the Ferris Wheel together. When he had told her he was a part of Team Plasma.

When he told her he was the king.

She always thought he was a little bit of a hypocrite; saying how horrible it was to put Pokémon in Pokeballs and battle with them. She never thought any less of him, though. She saw how hard they fought for him. She saw how much they cared about him.

She put her hand on the glass and stared at the sky as the Ferris Wheel slowly lowered.

Every time she saw him and they battled, she saw his views slowly change. He knew her Pokémon cared about her. They wanted to battle. They wanted to fight not for her, but with her. In the end he saw that. He and Reshiram left so N could find himself. So he could become closer with his Pokémon in the way Hilda had. Ever since he left, Team Plasma had been quiet.

Ever since he left, Hilda's heart ached for him to come back.

She finally reached the bottom of the Ferris Wheel and stepped out of the carriage. She looked around for the boy with the long green hair, but he was nowhere to be seen. Why would he be? Why did she even bother looking?

She should've told him. She should've told him how she felt but she didn't. She was a fool, and now she'll never get to tell him.

She began walking back to the Pokémon Center, snow crunching under her feet with every step. Hilda took out her Xtransceiver and called Bianca. It rang a few times before her friend picked up.

"Hey!" Her friend said, cheery as always.

"Who are you talking to, Bi?" Another voice asked.

"Hilda!" Bianca responded. Cheren's face made its way onto the screen.

"Hello Hilda" Cheren greeted plainly, walking away afterwords.

"Hey guys" Hilda said sadly.

Bianca scrunched her nose. "You okay? You're face is all..." Bianca began making weird motions with her hands with a disgusted look on her face.

"Thanks Bi" Hilda sighed. "I'm fine"

Bianca analyzed her face. "Where are you?"

"Nimbasa"

"Riding the Ferris Wheel again? Hilda-"

"I know I know, I shouldn't be there blah blah blah" Hilda recited, walking into the warm Pokémon Center. Bianca began to lecture Hilda on how if she was so heart-broken, she shouldn't be at the place that reminded her of the person causing the pain. Hilda sat in the lobby and let out her Pokémon to eat dinner. As Bianca was lecturing (with Cheren adding his opinions every once in awhile), Hilda was watching one of the tvs plastered around the Center. There was a news report on a person who could supposedly talk to Pokémon, and talked a whole horde of Seviper and Zangoose

When the news reporter went over to interview the person, Hilda's jaw dropped.

Bianca was still rambling, and Hilda abruptly ended the call.

"Serperior?" Hilda called to her partner.

Serperior looked up from its food and addressed its trainer.

Hilda pointed shakily at the monitor. "I-is that...N?"

Serperior glanced at the screen and nodded.

"So how do you talk to Pokémon?" The reporter asked.

N shrugged with a nervous smile on his face.

"I don't really 'talk' to them. I just hear their inner voices"

"So where are ya from?"

"Unova"

"And what inspired you to leave such an amazing region?"

"Actually..." N began nervously. "A girl named Hilda. She's so amazing with her Pokémon. Her and her Pokémon work as one being. It was something my Pokémon and I didn't have. So I came here to travel with my Pokémon, so we could connect on that same level that she and her Pokémon do"

Hilda's heart raced. He's got to be the sweetest thing ever! Hilda thought.

"Well that's all the time we've got for today! This is Debbie signing off from Lumiose city!"

The news report ended and Hilda's hands were shaking. Her Serperior wrapped a vine around her hands to steady them.

"Do you think he's still in the city?" Hilda asked her partner.

N sat in a booth in the Pokémon center, leaning back against the seat. He closed his eyes and thought of his day.

Yeah he stopped those Pokémon from fighting, but it was a simple misunderstanding between the two breeds. N didn't do much; he just helped each Pokémon see things from the other's perspective. He thought about the interview. He blabbed on and on about Hilda...he couldn't believe he did that! What if she saw? Would she think he was weird? Would she-

"N?" Nurse Joy called, snapping him out of his thoughts.

"Yes?" N responded, startled.

"You have a phone call"

"A call? For me?"

Nurse Joy lead N over to the many communication devices. N didn't know much about them or how they worked, but he knew they made calls that allowed you to see the person on the other end. Nurse Joy pointed to the one on the very end and left him to answer the call.

N grew a smile on his face when he saw the person on the other end.

"Hilda!"

"N..." Hilda sighed, tears brimming her eyes.

N grew confused, "Why are you crying, Hilda?"

Hilda sniffled, "I'm just..." she began "I missed you"

N blushed lightly. "Really?" He asked.

Hilda nodded, "I saw you on the news today"

N's heart dropped. She probably thought he was a fool. "Oh...about that-"

"-Those things you said-"

"-I'm really sorry about that"

"Don't be! They were really..." Hilda's face became bright red. She began twirling her hair. "They were really sweet..."

N's blush returned, stronger this time. "Sweet?"

Hilda nodded.

There was silence.

"N?" Hilda asked.

"Yes?" N responded.

"I don't know if I'll ever get another chance to see you again since you'll be traveling, but..." Hilda began. Her words reeked of nervousness, and her face grew a deep pink.

"I...I really like you N...a lot" she confessed, covering her face in an attempt to hide her blush.

"Well I thought that much, we're friends aren't we?"

Hilda hit her face with her hand and laughed nervously. "N, you're too pure for this world"

N raised an eyebrow, confused.

"N" Hilda began, slowly "What I mean is...I like you" Hilda stressed the "like" in an attempt to get N to understand her words.

He didn't understand. He didn't know much about people. He thought when you liked someone, you became friends. He thought when you loved someone, you wanted to date them. Humans were too confusing. Maybe there was more to it than that. He didn't think he loved Hilda, but every time he thought of her, he felt like there were thousands of Butterfree in his stomach and he became incredibly happy.

Did she feel that way too? Is that was this "like" was?

He had to know.

"Hilda?" N asked.

"Hmm?"

"When you think about me, how do you feel?"

Hilda seemed shocked at the question, and her pink blush became a deep red.

"I feel happy...and then sad"

"Sad?" N questioned. Maybe she didn't feel the same way. Maybe it was just him. Or maybe she did feel the same thing, but it was just a way friends felt and didn't need mentioning.

Hilda began laughing. "Of course you wouldn't understand! You were raised by Pokémon for years until Ghetsis found you!" Hilda's laughing slowly turned into crying. "Ghetsis probably never taught you how to love or care about other people! You don't have any social skills"

"Hilda you're crying..."

N didn't know what he was supposed to do. If only she was a Pokémon, then he could understand. Hilda was right...he didn't understand people.

"Forget it..." Hilda mumbled, wiping away her tears.

"Huh?"

"Just forget it!" She yelled, ending the call. The screen turned dark, and all N saw was his reflection.

Had he said something wrong?

N walked out of the Pokémon Center, picking his brain for any explanation of what just happened. He began taking the path to the Lumiose Badlands, which is where he was supposed to meet Reshiram at sundown. Pokémon N passed on the way inched away from him as if sensing the odd range of emotions he was feeling. The people paid N no attention.

By the time he reached the Badlands, the sky was a dark blue. Reshiram's white coat gleamed in the moonlight.

What's the matter? Reshiram asked, arching its neck down to nuzzle N's face.

N looked up at his friend. "Care to make a detour?"

"Bianca look!" Cheren exclaimed.

"I can't look! It's too high up!" Bianca cried, face in her hands.

"C'mon Bi!"

"No!"

Hilda watched her two friends argue over whether or not Bianca should look out the window. Bianca had a fear of the Ferris Wheel for the longest time, and Hilda and Cheren finally dragged her on to face her fears.

"Come on Bianca, it's beautiful" Hilda said, turning to the window.

The sky was a mix of orange, red, and pink, making the clouds look like cotton candy. The entire city had its lights on. The snow held the same colors as the sky.

Bianca slowly lowered her hands and looked out the window. Her eyes immediately lit up.

"Woah!" She said in awe.

"What'd we tell you?" Cheren said.

"Your face is ruining the view" Bianca teased.

Bianca and Hilda both began laughing as the Ferris Wheel lowered.

"I'm not that ugly" Cheren protested.

"Aw you know we love you, Cheren" Hilda comforted.

"What bothers"

As the carriage reached the ground, Bianca was the first to bolt out of it. Cheren and Hilda followed her laughing at her excitement for being on the ground.

"So what next?" Hilda asked.

"Um Hilda?" Bianca called, her back to Hilda.

"Yeah?"

"You might want to see this" Bianca said pointing to something in front of her.

Hilda walked up next to her friend and followed her gaze.

Hilda's breath caught in her throat. There, leaning against a bench looking right at her, was N.

Hilda couldn't move. Was he really here?

Bianca stepped behind Hilda and pushed her towards the boy. N smiled and laughed slightly. He began walking towards her. Hilda threw a glare over her shoulder at her friends who were laughing their heads off.

"Hilda?"

Hilda turned to face the boy who made her heart ache every single day.

"N...I..." she managed.

"You 'like' me" N stated, "but what does that mean?"

Hilda gave an exasperated laugh. She grabbed his face and pulled his towards hers until their lips were touching. N's eyebrows raised in surprise before he pulled Hilda towards him and melted into the kiss.

The pair separated their faces and stared into each other's eyes.

"I still don't get it" N said jokingly. Hilda grabbed the front of his hat and pulled it down in front of his face. N smiled, took of his hat, and switched it with Hilda's. He held Hilda's hat in his hand.

"You look cute without your hat" Hilda noted.

N blushed and muttered something resembling a thank you.

They kissed again, neither of them cold despite the freezing air.
