She knew Team Plasma was corrupt. She could tell that Ghetsis had a different plan for the world than N. Ghetsis didn't want N or Hilda's world. He wanted something else.

It upset her knowing Ghetsis was corrupt. Knowing she couldn't help N. It wasn't fair, but neither was anything else going on with Hilda.

I may not be brave, or strong, or smart, but somewhere in my secret heart I know

Every time she saw N, her heart fluttered, and she never wanted him to leave. The night they'd watched the stars, and that next morning where they snuggled under the sleeping bag...those were some of her favorite memories. Even that rainy day they'd spent together, she felt something.

And she knew he did too.

N made her feel so safe. So happy. So at ease. He was so easy to talk to, and she could tell he genuinely cared about Pokémon and their well being. Every time she was with him, she never wanted to leave.

At first, she thought they were too different. At first, she hated him and he hated her. Two different beings. Night and day. Winter and Summer. Black and white.

Like dark, turning into day

She thought they could get past that...but she didn't want him to have to give up everything for her.

Hilda tossed and turned on her bed. Tomorrow was the day. Here she was- sleeping at the Pokémon Center at the Pokémon League, knowing she'd have to confront N for the last time tomorrow.

He didn't want to challenge her. He didn't want to hurt her! He didn't know what these feelings were, but he was beginning to figure it out.

I was so afraid

It wasn't fair. Her Pokémon...they loved her. Despite everything he ever knew, they loved her!

Now I realize

He couldn't ask her to be his queen and he knew it. He couldn't ask her to give up everything. That would be selfish of him.

How could he let himself get attached to her? Why is he okay with it? Why did she make him feel so good? Why was she the missing piece to N's heart?

Love is never wrong, and so it never dies

He thought about her. About her world. It couldn't be that bad...People and Pokémon...could they really live in harmony?

N opened his eyes. Suddenly, sleep didn't seem so appealing. His room seemed so empty for such a nice castle.

N and Hilda groaned.

How could Hilda possibly tell her friends and family that she fell for the king of Team Plasma?

How could N tell his father that he fell for the enemy?

Hilda gripped N's necklace. She almost never took it off- even when she slept. She wanted him close to her heart.

N curled up with his blanket. The scent of Oran and Pecha berries still lingered, making his heart ache.

She couldn't give up everything for him.

He couldn't give up everything for her.

But they wanted to.

N adored the way Hilda made simple things beautiful- smiling, laughing, he even thought she was beautiful when she was angry.

She made everything better just by being herself.

They wanted to be with each other. Badly.

Hilda began to think that it didn't matter how different they were. She liked him for him. To her, it didn't matter that he was king. All that mattered was that he was N.

N wanted to make it work. If he had to defy his father, he would.

Hilda didn't care about what her friends would think. She missed him, she needed him.
