Kate took a deep breath before entering the lab at Altru. Inc. She fiddled with her gloves nervously. It was the first time she was coming to see Isaac after everything that had happened.

After he was tricked by Team Dim Sun. After his sister had been kidnapped by Team Dim Sun. After he'd been forced to complete their plan.

But truthfully, she just wanted to see him. She was still dealing with what happened to herself that day, and she needed someone who would make her feel better. Isaac was suspiciously good at that.

Kate went to open the doors, and they slid open automatically. The open doors revealed Isaac alone in the lab, doing some work on a computer.

He turned in Kate's direction when he heard her soft footsteps, "Hey Kate" Isaac said.

Kate waved, "Hey"

"How're you holding up?" Isaac asked.

Kate shrugged, "Great" she lied, "I'm just tired" she lied again, walking over to a counter and jumping up to sit on it, carefully avoiding stacks of paper.

"Kate" Isaac pressed.

"I'm just tired" Kate repeated.

"You've been off for a week. There is no way you're still tired" Isaac accused, walking over and standing in front of Kate.

Kate hugged her arms, "I'm really okay, Isaac..."

The boy rolled his eyes, "Then why are you here at ten pm?" He asked, accusingly.

Kate raised an eyebrow, "I could ask you the same question"

"Late shift. Your turn"

Kate grimaced, "Nightmares" she mumbled.

"Oh" Isaac whispered, leaning next to Kate against the table, "What...What kind of nightmares?"

"Does it matter? They're all different! Equally terrifying though..."

"Wanna talk about it?" Isaac asked.

"There isn't much to talk about. I barely remember them. Sometimes I wake up afraid for no reason" Kate explained.

Isaac kicked the floor awkwardly, social situations not being his forte, "Oh...Well if you ever want to...you know...talk..."

Kate giggled. She thought it was adorable how awkward he could be. She knew his heart was in the right place.

"Okay, Isaac"

Isaac fiddled with a few of the papers on the table.

"Listen Kate" He began, "You were up against Darkrai. You were going to be consumed in the darkness if not for your batonnage styler. It's okay to tell me that you were scared"

Kate opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. Isaac was right. She was scared...but not for herself. She was scared for Almia. Scared for Keith and Rhythmi. Scared for her mother, father, and sister. Scared for all her friends at the Ranger Union and Ranger station in Veintown. Scared for Isaac's sister Melody. And scared for Isaac who was on the floor just beneath her, trapped.

"Fine" Kate admitted, "I was terrified...I still am! It was horrible..."

Isaac nodded and placed a reassuring hand on Kate's shoulder, "It's okay Kate. I know there was a lot on you" he said, walking towards some of the computers.

Kate grabbed his lab coat before he could get too far and gently pulled him in front of her. She fiddled with the collar of his lab coat.

"Ya know what I was the most afraid of?" She asked.

Isaac's face turned a deep red, "Hmm?"

"I was afraid the darkness would get to you. You were only a floor below us"

Isaac's face grew a deeper shade of red, "Mhmm"

Kate leaned in slightly, "I was worried about you" she whispered, slipping Isaac's lab coat off.

"Kate..." Isaac murmured, leaning in as well.

They closed the distance.
