LyraxSilver

Silver had to get stronger if he ever wanted any chance of beating her. These days all he did was train, never letting up. He spent most of his time in the Dragon's Den, only leaving to grab the occasional bunch of potions from the Poke-mart.

"Feraligatr use ice fang, Weavile use metal claw!" He commanded. His Pokémon obeyed and lunged at each other, each deflecting the move aimed at them. Feraligatr and Weavile separated and waited for another command.

"Feraligatr use-"

"Hi Silvy!"

Silver nearly fell flat on his face. Feraligatr turned to see the source of the voice.

"Fer!" The Pokémon chirped, and stomped over to the voice. Weavile ran to Silver's side as Silver turned to see his Feraligatr acting like a Lillipup to the owner of the voice.

Silver's heart skipped a beat as he saw the trainer, but that feeling quickly went away as he saw her treating his Pokémon like a pet.

"Well hi there Feraligatr!" She said, petting him under his chin. Feraligatr purred at the affection, a smile plastered on his face. He lifted his head and addressed the Typhlosion standing next to her.

"Gator"

"Ty"

"Hey Silvy!" Lyra cut in, dropping her hands from Feraligatr. Silver's partner marched back over to Silver's side, tilting his head like a dog Pokémon. Silver glared at him and Feraligatr's goofy smile faded. Typhlosion grunted.

"What are you doing here, Lyra? Come to laugh at our training?" Silver accused, crossing his arms.

"N-no!" Lyra sputtered, "I just wanted to see if you wanted to hang out with me" Her partner shoved his head under her hands, and she stoked his fur.

Silver dropped his arms, "You? You want to 'hang out'" he began, using air quotes around his words,"With me? Gold not entertaining enough?"

Typhlosion raised his head, and the flames around his neck raised. Weavile readied himself for an attack. Feraligatr growled at Weavile in disapproval. The two Pokémon calmed down as Typhlosion's flames retracted.

"Of course I want to hang out with you!" Lyra protested, blushing.

Silver's body tensed as his heart pumped faster.

"Fine" he muttered. Lyra's face lit up with excitement and her partner rolled his eyes.

Sometimes Silver had wished this girl hadn't taken the Cyndaquil that day. Her Pokémon seemed to be a much better attitude match with Silver. These days though, Silver appreciates his partner, no matter how much of a softie it can be towards others.

Silver returned his Pokémon to their Pokeballs and shoved his hands in his pockets.

Typhlosion nuzzled his trainer's face before returning to his Pokeball. Silver began walking to the end of the dock and Lyra followed behind him. They sat down next to each other at the edge of the dock. Lyra looked down into the water and smiled. Silver, confused, followed her gaze but saw nothing.

"What are you smiling at?" He asked, looking at their reflections.

Lyra laughed, "I just never thought you'd ever agree to hang out with me"

Silver blushed and looked away from the water. "I just didn't have anything better to do"

Lyra looked up at him and smiled. "Okay Silvy" she cheered.

Silver groaned. "Will you stop calling me that?"

"What? Silvy?"

"Yes"

"Aw but I think it's cute!"

Silver shook his head and looked straight ahead.

There was a long pause before Lyra broke the silence, "Have you heard from your father lately?"

Silver closed his eyes and sighed.

"Come on," she pressed, "one of us had to mention him"

Lyra had seen Silver interact with his father for the first time in years awhile ago. She had no right to see that, but she did so now Silver couldn't avoid it.

Silver leaned back on his hands, "No" he began, "And it's probably for the best if it stays that way"

Lyra nodded, looking away.

"Is that the only reason you're here?" Silver asked, hurt threatening to seep into his voice.

Lyra turned, shocked "No! Silver-"

"Why else would you want to hang out with a criminal?" Silver accused.

"Silver! You're not a criminal!"

"Pft. Do you really believe that?" Silver rolled his eyes.

"I do" Lyra said softly. She turned her whole body towards him.

"How do you know that? How do you know I won't end up like my father?"

"How can you compare yourself to him?! You're nothing like Giovanni!!" Lyra yelled. Silver looked at her in shock. Did she really care about him? She sighed and hugged him. Silver's body flinched at the contact. His brain told him to push her away, but his body wouldn't respond.

Lyra pulled away and put her hands on his shoulders. She looked him straight in the eyes, "You're nothing like him, Silver" she repeated.

"You're kind-"

Silver snorted. Lyra continued anyway, "and caring and unfortunately, not everybody gets to see that"

Silver stared at her, his heart practically pounding out of his chest.

"Yes, you weren't the nicest of people at first-"

Silver laughed with no humor.

"-but" Lyra stressed, "the great thing about you is...you changed"

Lyra leaned in and kissed Silver's cheek. She moved away and her lips hovered over his.

They sat there like that for what seemed like forever before Silver went to close the distance.

-Ring- Ring-

Startled, Silver and Lyra bumped heads. They rubbed their foreheads as Lyra took out the source of the ringing. Her pokegear just had to go off?

She answered, "Hello?" She moved away from Silver. Silver mentally groaned at the loss of warmth.

"Okay..." Lyra spoke into the Pokegear. She muttered a few more okays, clearly annoyed with the person on the other end.

"Okay bye" she hung up. "Gold" she muttered.

"I have to go" she announced, getting up. Silver quickly stood up next to her. Silver felt a twinge of jealousy at the mention of Gold.

"I left Togekiss with him to help teach his Abra Psychic, and apparently something went wrong and..." she struggled for words, but eventually threw her hands up in defeat, "I don't know, I have to grab some full restores"

"Okay" Silver breathed.

"Bye Silvy" she said, letting her Dragonite out of its Pokeball. She got on her Pokémon's back, and she flew out of the den.

Silver watched her leave. He couldn't help but smile a little. Lyra had somehow wormed her way into his life, and somehow...he was okay with it.
