RedxBlue

"Red!" Blue screeched, slamming his bike on the ground and running over to his friend.

"Red? Are you okay?" Blue asked, kneeling down to get a good look at whatever injury Red had acquired.

Red forced a smile, "Yeah I'm okay, Blue!" He said. Red glanced at the bike he fell from.

"I told my mom I wasn't ready to take my training wheels off..." The young boy grumbled.

"Should I get my Gramps?" Blue asked worriedly.

Red stood up, trying to reassure Blue that he was fine, "No I'm okay!"

"You're bleeding!" Blue screeched, pointing to Red's leg.

Red looked down to find a long cut down his leg, dripping blood. He was surprised he didn't feel it.

Blue put his hands on Red's shoulders and pushed him into sitting on the ground, "I'll go get my Gramps! Don't move!"

As he watched Blue run back to his grandfather's laboratory, Red couldn't help but think about how concerned Blue looked...

~~~
"Red! Come down from his god damn mountain!" Blue yelled against the harsh wind, his scarf thrashing about.
Red, seemingly unbothered by the cold, turned his back to Blue. That made Blue incredibly angry.
"You stupid idiot!" He hissed, earning a look over the shoulder from Red, "You're gonna freeze to death up here!"
Red shrugged.
Dread clawed at Blue's soul. What if Red died up here? What if he never saw him again? Blue didn't want to think about it.
"Please Red," Blue said, calmly this time, "I miss you...come home."
Red fully turned his body to Blue, his face flooded with shock.
New warmth migrated to Blue's cheeks and ears as Red approached him. Fixing Blue's scarf, Red leaned in and-
Blue awoke with a start. He put his hand to his chest to find his heart beating rapidly.
Gears turned in Blue's brain as he realized what this dream could mean.
"No...No!" He screamed, "I can't be...No! This isn't right!"
Red flooded Blue's thoughts- his smile, his laugh, the voice he only used when interacting with Blue. Blue thought about the way Red's eyes lit up when he and Blue spoke about Pokémon. The way he scoffed and rolled his eyes at Blue's arrogance. The way when he signed Blue's name, he spelt it out instead of using the sign for "blue". As if Blue's name was something special...
Heat rose to Blue's face and he smiled at his thoughts, but soon realized what he was doing and shook the thoughts away.
Blue laid back down in his bed and attempted to fall back asleep. He was very unsuccessful, since it's very difficult to fall asleep when a heart is beating a million miles a minute.
~~~

Blue sat on a bench outside the Pokémon Center, his gaze focused on the sky.

Blue felt a tap on his shoulder. He tore his gaze away from the clear blue sky to find his childhood friend, and rival, smiling at him. He was smiling a smile that made Blue's ears warm.

"Hey." Blue said coldly, taking his eyes off of Red.

Not finding anything particularly unusual with Blue's tone, Red took a seat next to him. Blue scooted away in response.

Now alarms went off in Red's brain, "Everything okay?" He asked softly.

Blue nodded, refusing to even glance in Red's direction.

Red tapped Blue and Blue finally looked at him.

"You sure?" Red signed.

"Yes." Blue signed sharply.

"B-L-U-E..."

"Why do you care so much?" Blue snapped, sending a glare at Red.

Blue's icy glare caused Red's hands to freeze up, so he had to start using his voice again, "Blue? Is everything okay?"

"Everything is fine! Why the fuck do you care so much?!"

Anger filled Red's veins. What had he done to deserve the sudden attitude from Blue?

His hands finally cooperating, Red signed, "We're friends." Red flicked Blue's forehead, "Stupid."

"Fuck off." Blue hissed, getting up and walking away.

Red refused to let Blue get off that easy. Red stood up and grabbed Blue's wrist, "Blue. Stop."

Blue yanked his wrist from Red's grasp, "Don't touch me."

"Blue," Red said, as calmly as possible, "I care about you. Why are you acting like this?"

"What are you fucking gay?" Blue snapped.

Red's whole body froze. His anger dissolved. His heart broke. He felt like Blue had just punched him in the stomach. He felt the need to flee, but his body refused to respond.

"I'm not your boyfriend, Red. Get lost already." Blue hissed, shoving his hands in his pockets and walking away.

Red watched as Blue walked away. Though, he didn't really have a choice. He was still frozen in place.

Move

Red retreated into the Pokémon Center. Upon his entrance, Nurse Joy called him over to retrieve Pikachu and his other Pokémon. Taking deep, labored breaths, Red managed to make it to the counter to pick up his Pokémon. Pikachu noticed instantly there was something wrong with its trainer, and nuzzled Red's face as it jumped onto his shoulder.

The Pokémon league champion fled to the room he resided in. He closed the door behind him and slid down onto the floor.

He hugged his knees to his chest and hid his face between his knees. Pikachu jumped onto the floor and nudged his trainer, crying in worry. Silent tears fell from Red's eyes, staining the carpet beneath him.

~~~
I'm not gay...I'm not...gay...I'm...not...gay
Blue kicked himself for saying those things to Red. He cared because they were friends- not because he had feelings for Blue. He was worried because he was a friend.
After years of teasing, putting him down, and pushing him around, Red still cared. After all that, Red still considered Blue a friend.
Blue frowned.
A friend
Blue shook away his disappointment.
Disappointment...?
Blue supposed those feelings had always been there, but society told him those feelings weren't okay. But they were okay.
Did Red feel that way, too?
Blue stopped dead in his tracks. He turned around and ran back to the Pokémon Center.
I have to fix this
Blue couldn't stand to lose Red. Not in any way, shape, or form.
Upon entering the center, Blue immediately asked Nurse Joy what room his friend was staying in. Finding the room the champion was in, Blue opened the door without knocking. He stepped back quickly as Red fell from leaning against the door. Red stared up at Blue, his eyes searching Blue's.
Red recovered his senses and got up from the floor. He wiped his still wet eyes and fled deeper into his room. Pikachu followed its trainer.
"Red?" Blue said, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him.
Red remained silent as ever, keeping his back to Blue.
Blue sighed, "I'm sorry."
Pikachu climbed onto Red's shoulder, keeping its back to Blue as well.
Blue rubbed the back of his neck, "You asked me what was wrong, remember?"
Silence.
Blue grunted, heat rushing to his face, "I was just thinking..."
"A-B-O-U-T?"
Or that's what Blue thought Red said- the champion still refused to face him.
Mustering up all his courage and forcing down his pride, Blue spoke, "You."
Red finally turned to face Blue, his face displaying the purest look of shock Blue had ever seen.
Red pointed to his chest, "Me?" He whispered.
Blushing, Blue nodded. Red mimicked Blue's blush, but shook it away and turned his back to Blue once more.
"You still called me..." Red whispered.
"I know."
"Why?"
Blue's mouth felt dry. He didn't really know how to answer. He didn't even know if he was...
"I don't know."
"Are you...?"
"I don't know..." Blue admitted, lowering his gaze.
If Red moved, Blue didn't see him do it. All he knew was Red was suddenly standing toe to toe with him. Red took his hat off and placed it on his Pokémon's head, the hat falling to cover its eyes. Red out his hands on Blue's shoulders and leaned in.
