Hugh stared out of the window as it rained. His teacher was talking about some thing the boy didn't care for, probably yelling at the class troublemaker, Rosa.

For being in first grade, Hugh thought she wasn't too bright. That or she did things to make their teacher angry on purpose.

At some point the teacher must've gone back to the lesson, but Hugh hadn't noticed.

"Hugh!" The teacher yelled, snapping Hugh from the rain outside and into the classroom once again.

Hugh gulped, "Yes, Ms. April?"

"Pay attention!" She snapped, turning back to the blackboard and returning to the lesson.

Hugh mumbled a small "Sorry" and skunked down in his chair, embarrassed.

The boy suddenly felt a few taps on his shoulder and turned around in his seat. He saw Rosa beaming at him.

"Hey...wanna get back at her?" She whispered.

"At the teacher?" Hugh whispered back.

"Yeah...she doesn't yell at you a lot does she? You must be sad"

It was true, Hugh never got yelled at by Ms. April. He was sure he was her favorite anyhow, but she had made him pretty embarrassed. He kind of wanted to get revenge.

Hugh looked at the teachers desk to see her water bottle standing alone next to her name tag. The boy looked outside the window to see the gutters on the school spewing rain water- full of leaves and gunk.

Hugh smirked, "Think you can snatch her water bottle before recess?" He whispered to Rosa.

Rosa scoffed, "Duh" she whispered back.

"Meet me at recess"

By the time recess hit, the rain had stopped. No one was allowed in the field or on the playground since they were wet, but the blacktop was fair game.

Hugh watched as kids played various blacktop sports, or even ran around. Soon, Rosa ran up to him, their teachers water bottle in her hands.

"Got it!" She chirped happily, "What now?"

Hugh pointed to one of the gutters that was still spewing a small amount of gutter water.

"We fill it" he said mischievously.

Rosa giggled, "That's funny! You're funny, Hughy!"

Hugh smiled, "Thanks! I'll keep guard, you go fill it!"

"Okay! Coo like a Pidove if a teacher comes around" Rosa ordered, skipping off to fill the bottle with gutter water.

"Hughy", Hugh thought, I like that.

About a minute later, Rosa came back, the water bottle filled with nasty gutter water.

"Don't you think she'll notice?" Rosa asked, observing the water.

Hugh shook his head, "Nope. See it just rained which means this water is fresh. So it may look a little cloudy, but it's no cloudier than the water fountain water" Hugh explained, grumbling at the end when he spoke of the water fountain water. The water from their water fountain truly was nasty.

Rosa grinned, "I like you, Hughy! You're fun!"

Hugh copied her grin, "Thanks! I like you too!"

"Friends?" Rosa suggested.

"Yeah!"

The two children high fived just as the bell rang for them to come inside.

Ms. April spat out her water in disgust.

"What in Arceus-" She mumbled.

A few of Rosa and Hugh's classmates snickered, but the two children could hardly hold back their laughs.

Hugh turned around to look at Rosa, but as soon as they made eye contact, they lost it. They laughed like maniacs as their classmates, and the teacher, looked at them in shock and confusion.

Ms. April's face turned red with anger, "Rosa" she hissed, "What did you do?"

"Nothing, Ms. April" Hugh answered.

"Hugh I wasn't aski-"

"Hughy didn't do anything either" Rosa snickered.

Ms. April blinked in surprise, "W...What?"

Rosa and Hugh burst out laughing again, causing Ms. April to yell and scold them some more, knowing they were responsible for the prank.

And for the rest of their school days, the pair never separated, one never seen without the other. Whenever Rosa got into trouble, Hugh was always there to get her out. When Hugh was sad or lonely, Rosa always managed to make him happy.

"Best friends?" Rosa asked Hugh on the last day of first grade.

"Best friends. Forever"
