Just A Game Of Mossball

"Come on Rainkit, go play with your siblings. If you just stay in here moping you'll never make any friends." Cloudpetal urged, looking down at her daughter.

Her blind misty blue eyes were lifted upward, almost directed at her mother. "I can't play like the other kits! I can't see!" She snapped.

Gingersplash broke her way into the conversation, "Don't speak to your mother like that Rainkit, it doesn't matter if your blind or not." She firmly chided.

The small kit flinched at the tone, not having expecting it. She lowered her head, in an apologetic matter. "Oh don't be so harsh Gingersplash, it's a lot to take in." Cloudpetal said, before turning her attention back to her kit. "I'm sure that your siblings will involve you, after all they do care about you." She stated.

She considered her mothers words, and with a small sigh of defeat she got to her paws. "I'll give it a try I guess." She said, carefully making her way out of the nest. She felt a tail on her back, and begrudgingly let her mother guide her to the entrance. The sun hit her face and she stepped away from Cloudpetal, carefully listening for her siblings voices.

"Pass it over here Groundkit!" Dropkit called, sidestepping Sandkit who had tried to tackle him.

The sandy furred she-kit whirled around and tried to intercept the moss-ball that Groundkit batted towards Dropkit. "Nooooo Firekit help!" She exclaimed, having missed it. Her littermate rushed to help capture the mossball.

'I can feel vibrations.' She realized, feeling it through her paws. 'Does this mean that I can..I'll only know if I try.' She thought. After taking a deep breathe she concentrated once again, blocking out all sound. Dropkit had managed to snatch the mossball before Firekit could get their, and was now trying to keep it out of the reach of the two older kits. Although it was only by about a moon. Her littermate Groundkit rushed to join the fray, tackling Firekit and wrestling with him. Or so it seemed by the increase in vibrations from that direction. Sandkit snatched it, and raced away from her other brother. That's when she made her move. She raced after Sandkit, by trying to follow her scent, pawsteps, and the vibrations she caused. She almost confused herself actually when she was running, since her paws weren't only the ground all the time. 'Come on!' She urged herself, running faster. She felt her fur brushing Sandkit's and she went for it. Darting forward she somehow managed to grasp it in her jaw and snatch it away from Sandkit. Her paws bolted, and she ran. "Goooo Rainkit!" Her brother cheered, running to try and cover her.

It happened fast, faster than she could even avoid. One second she's running with the mossball, and the next she's on her back. She did her best to hold onto the mossball, but it was in vain. Proudkit pulled it away from her and batted it to Sandkit, who proceeded to bat it to Firekit. "Hey, are you alright?" Proudkit inquired, getting off her.

Rainkit got to her paws, feeling bitter that she had let him steal it from her, bit after a moment she softly sighed, "Yeah..."

"Hey cheer up! That was amazing esp-never mind but still!" The calico tom exclaimed.

Her fur bristled, "Especially what? Because I'm blind? Ugh, I knew coming out here was a bad idea." She spat, turning and ready to stalk away.

But someone was in her path. Proudkit. "L-Look I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say it, it just came out! Please forgive me I really didn't mean it!" He profusely apologized, his eyes filled with regret. Although she couldn't see them.

There she stood for a moment, motionless. Surprised that he was even apologizing. "Really?" She asked, needing for it to be confirmed.

He nodded, but realized she couldn't see that a second later. A sheepish expression found it's way onto his features, "Yeah, really." He confirmed.

She smiled faintly. "O-Okay, I forgive you. Can we be friends maybe?" She questioned. Her heart leapt for joy, somecat wanted to accept her! Besides her family that is.

Proudkit chuckled, "Of course! Now let's go back to playing, you'll even out the teams. So you'll be with your littermates." He happily agreed. And together the two ran back to the action, and resumed playing. For the first time Rainkit had fun! But soon....Fun would be a distant memory.
