Glass Box

A glass box, I'm in a glass box

I can see the outside but yet I'm not free

I'm chained to the ground, it's holding me bound

They say you're free, open your wings
But when I really do think that I'm on the brink

I come back down, along with my self esteem
With my wings and other things

It's always been my dream, to spread by wings and leave

But I can't, that glass box is an taunting tease never letting go at as an ease

I deserve to be set free, can't you see

I'm not an animal in a petting zoo or a lonely captured bamboo

I have brown skin
And a sharp chin
Round nose and an afro

I'm a human being waiting to be set free
Waiting to be treated fairly and equally

I'm not an animal, trust me
I hope you see me good, preferably

But that will never happen
I'll always be black
Nothing more, than that
