Chapter five

"Lyra, I already went over this a dozen times!" Silver groaned, flopping down onto his bed on his back.

Lyra's voice whined from Silver's phone, "I know but I still don't get it!"

"Don't you have a party you should be going to?"

"It's not for another two hours, and my mom won't let me go until I finish my homework."

"Ask your friends for the answers, then!"

"Silvey, we've been over this," Lyra sighed, "I can't ask them for help without them thinking I'm stupid."

Silver groaned in response, "Fine."

"Good boy." Lyra praised.

"I'm not a dog." Silver hissed.

"Yeah you're more like a cat..." Lyra giggled, "Always grumpy."

Silver sighed and once again explained the problem to Lyra. He'd explained it so many times he didn't even need to look at his work anymore.

Silver heard Lyra give a frustrated sigh.

"Trouble figuring out the problem?" Silver asked, a smirk forming on his lips.

"Trouble getting above a C?" Lyra shot back.

"Fair enough..."

Lyra was silent for awhile. She was so silent Silver thought she'd hung up on him. Not that he'd care, of course.

"Silvey?" Lyra asked.

"Hmm?" Silver hummed.

"Did Gold talk to you today?"

Silver rolled his eyes, "Ugh. Yes. Why?"

"He said he was gonna." Lyra explained.

"Oh."

"What did he say to you? I hope he wasn't being mean."

"Eh that's just Gold. I don't know if you noticed, but he doesn't like me very much." Silver said sarcastically.

"Of course I noticed, dummy. I just..."

Silver raised an eyebrow, "You wanted to know what he said, right?"

"Mhmm."

"He basically told me to 'fuck off'" Silver said, "He's always been such a class act."

"Why do you two hate each other so much?" Lyra asked, "Can't you just, oh I don't know...get along?"

"I wish it were that easy, Pigtails," Silver sighed, "But Gold and I go too far back."

"What happened? Gold told me you used to be friends but..."

A knot formed in Silver's chest, "I can't talk about it."

"Why not?"

"Because I said so." Silver hissed.

"Okay, okay, fine," Lyra sighed, "Wanna help me finish the rest of my homework?"

"Not really."

"Oh come on! I'll buy you coffee on Monday..." she bribed.

Silver groaned, "Fine."

"Yay! Thank you, Silvey!"

Silver found himself smiling at Lyra's happy tone. He mentally kicked himself for it, and told himself it was just for the promise of coffee.
