Chapter 13
Since that fateful day, Kiyo has been walking behind Sunny to see if anyone disparages him.
Of course, there are. They pulled Sunny's hair, saying his hairstyle was too feminine, and Kiyo said:
"Your eyes got any problem?"
When they criticized Sunny for being short, Kiyo sarcastically said:
"You're probably not as highly educated as him."
It went on like that for a week, no one dared to approach either of them, but they were still gossiping behind their backs.
Sunny was also temporarily relieved, but he was still wary of everyone around him, and a little cautious with Kiyo.
This week there is another IT class. And this made Kiyo very eager to continue studying this subject.
He had made up his mind to start pursuing this subject, because firstly, he had something good to do besides killing people. Second, to be honest, he really likes things that involve analytical and reasoning skills, but it has to be applied in real life, or else just for fun.
Kiyo and Sunny went to the computer classroom, where the two were waiting.
"I come here a lot. Even though there's not a lot of software available, Pascal is still very useful to me." - Sunny said gently.
"Is that so? I'm just learning how to use it, but I think programming is pretty cool." - Kiyo only answered like that.
"I didn't expect we had the same interests. Would you like to sit with me today?"
Kiyo looked at the person beside him in surprise.
"But I thought the teacher wouldn't let us freely choose seats?"
Sunny was silent for a while, as if trying to say something. Then he opened his mouth:
"Oh nope, it's true that I don't allow you to change seats on your own. But just ask permission from the teacher, explain the reason, then it's fine. He is not too strict about seats. You know, isn't this the first chance that we can collaborate on programming? That would mean a lot to both of us."
Sunny is very excited now. As expected, he is normally very introverted and shy, but when it comes to programming, he becomes enthusiastic and excited. Kiyo also rarely cooperates with anyone, but seeing his friend's excitement, he couldn't refuse.
"That sounds fine. It's almost time, hurry up." - Kiyo was about to take the other's hand.
But it was Sunny who pulled Kiyo in. He pulled Kiyo into his seat.
"Hey-"
Not noticing Kiyo's confusion, Sunny was a bit impatient:
"One of the computers is broken, so we have to share it."
"It's okay, I can switch to another one-"
Seeing the sadness and pity on his friend's face, Kiyo had to say:
"Well, I'll just sit here."
Just as Kiyo expected, Sunny just heard about it and brightened up again. With a happy smile but a little nervous, he said:
"I'm glad. Let me turn it on."
Kiyo propped his chin and sighed.
"But who will do first?"
And Sunny stammered just two words: "Me, me", then actively hold the mouse, and move to Programmer_Pascal software.
"Let's see.." - Sunny frowned for a moment, then placed his hands on the keys, at a steady pace, and the expression on his face was so focused, he barely left the screen.
Kiyo looked at the screen while watching the hand movements on the keyboard. Is this really an image of an ideal programmer, at least according to the general view of society at that time? And a seventh-grade boy with that standard is Sunny.
It took about ten minutes before Sunny stopped.
"What happen?" - Kiyo asked curiously.
"I'm done. Now let's run the program."
The machine does catch errors, but only spelling errors, not syntax. It also didn't take long to fix, then Sunny ran the program.
Something appeared on the screen. It looks.. like a bookcase?
"What is this?" - Kiyo looked at it in confusion.
"Ah, it's a simulated world. But it's just for testing. As for the graphics.. I got it online."
Man, it's only seventh grade, but Sunny is already adept at this sort of thing? How long it took him to train? At this level, he must have studied for a long time, probably since elementary school. Indeed, young talent like this is quite rare, in this country in particular.
It's unacceptable for a talent like this to let others trample and smear it; contempt and hatred for each other only make people see each other's weaknesses, but refuse to look at their other side. People like Sunny can never live in peace, they become overly sensitive and lack confidence in themselves, and further reduce their self-esteem, just because of those hateful things.
Kiyo thought, maybe Sunny needs more support from others too, even though he doesn't know the real reason why his friend is like this other than being bullied. Talented people who are weak like this must not be infringed on their honor anymore.
"Kiyo?"
Kiyo was startled and asked:
"What is it?"
"You've been dumbfounded all this time. It's your turn."
"Ah, that's right. I've been thinking too much."
Sunny changed seats and sat outside to make it easier for Kiyo to type.
Kiyo was also a person who is still learning about programming, so he was not sure about his knowledge. Anyway, because he didn't want to ruin the image, he just typed what he thought, and what he knew.
Sunny was now staring at the screen, just like before, he was still very focused, but this time it was a little different. His face was more relaxed, and it was exactly the same as it usually was when he quietly listened to Kiyo talking: An eerie calmness, an unusual silence.
Occasionally, Sunny gently picked up Kiyo's errors, like syntax or spelling errors. To be honest, this programming job needs to be careful, and thorough, just a little mistake, the program will be not worked.
When the debugging had finished, Kiyo ran the program.
Sunny was silent for a moment, and like last time, he seemed to be preparing his words.
"This program is fine, for beginners, this is completed with the basics. Now you can also study in-depth, but it has to be gradual."
He continued to explain more, even introduced what he needed to learn more, meticulously and clearly, still in the same warm voice.
Whoever likes this topic, talking to Sunny will surely be comfortable, because his tone is both soft and easy to listen to.
Soon the time is up. Sunny also stopped.
"Oh, time is up, what a pity." - Still the same familiar frowned smile.
"Time flow so fast. It's already been forty minutes."
"I guess I talked too much.." - Sunny lowered his voice.
"It's okay, it's not boring at all." - Kiyo interjected.
They led each other out of the classroom door, Sunny turned to look, saying:
"There's also an exam for this subject. It seems that the exam will be done at the end of this month. Come on, do your best okay?"
With that, Sunny waved his hand and went downstairs. And Kiyo waved back, just like on the first day of school.
Thanks to him, Kiyo feels more motivated and feels more at peace.
Especially when he has a friend by his side.
