Chapter Two: The Mysterious Woman

I walked in and saw the old woman from my dream, her eyes flashing.

“Hello.” she said slowly in a smug tone. After closing my gaping mouth, I responded...sort of.

“You’re...it’s...what...who...hi.” I thought I handled it pretty well.

“Do you know why I am here?” the woman probed.

“Do I know why you’re here? I don’t even know your name!” I blurted.

“Very well,” she announced. “I shall start from the beginning. I am Delaria Ruine. I am your mother. I am also the very person who cursed you. There. Now you must know why I am here. Incase you don’t, I am here to stay with you until you die.” Who did this lady think she was talking to? I am no idiot, but I don’t think that made much sense.

“Um, sorry...I think you have the wrong house.” Probably one of the stupidest things I could’ve said, but hey, when a creepy person’s in your house, you get a little flustered.

“Do I, Nova?” she asked quizzically as she tilted her head. The way she said my name sent chills up my spine. Despite my fear, I could tell she was lying. It’s not something I could describe...I just knew. Not guessing, true, pure confidence that she was not who she claimed to be, and she was not here for what she claimed to do. Oh my gosh, I must be seriously creeping you out. I am sorry about that, but you did choose to read my story.

“No. You don’t.” I countered with more confidence than I felt. “You are not my mother, and you don’t want to stay with me. You just want to make sure I die like I’m supposed to!” Well, that sure felt good. However, at the same time I felt a rising anger. How could she think that I’d be okay with her nightmares and nonchalant attitude? Not even close. She smiled.

“You are smarter than I thought, Nova.” she purred. “As I am the one that cursed you, I need to make sure my curse was filled out. As for me being your mother, I just thought it would make this more dramatic.” she cackled, making the hairs on my arm stand up. “My real name is Delaria, but my last name is Uono.”

“Okay, well first: why a curse? Really, Delaria? Why not cancer or something less cliche? Second: I don’t care about your name or purpose, because with me you will have no name, and you will have a new purpose: to undo the curse you did. Now!” I was starting to get really mad. With every word, I came closer to her until I was towering over the frail old lady. “Don’t even try to get away.” I spat. I stared into her eyes, and then I realized my own eyes were starting to glow. However, not with golden light this time, but an intense blazing fire. “Give me back the rest of my life!” Her face was starting to look very scared. Good. I could see the fire blazing inside my irises, and I thought I saw sweat coming from her forehead. The anger inside me flared, and soon she was shouting.

“Stop! Stop it! I don’t deserve to die!” she wailed.

“Says the person who put a death sentence on on me!” The room exploded with heat and light, and when it had faded the woman was gone. Goodbye, Delaria.
