Chapter 3 - Jealousy

If you don't know Law's backstory – SPOILER ALERT!

Happy reading~ ❤

–––––

The next day everyone hung out on deck and discussed their next location while glancing over at the sight too cute for words.

(Y/N) was taking a nap on the grass while holding Chopper close and cuddled him from time to time. At first, he was embarrassed but he liked the feeling she gave off when she held him. She seemed to be calmer and more relaxed with him.

All for the purpose of being a good doctor of course – not at all that he actually loved being cuddled.

It had now been three months since (Y/N) was rescued by the straw hats and she had declined their offer to join but agreed to stick around for a while.

"I swear if the captain is up and stealing food again." Sanji mumbled while pinching his nose and walked towards the sound of shuffling in the kitchen.

But all that he found was (Y/N) sitting on the sink with an onigiri in her mouth while she struggled to stay still as the room had decided to dance.

"Sanji-kun? Is it morning already?" she mumbled with the food in her mouth and he almost died at the sight of her. She looked so innocent and too cute.

"No no, I just went up for some water." he chuckled and sat her down by the table instead when he noticed her almost falling off the sink. She was obviously still drunk from competing with Zoro earlier.

"You're such a prince Sanji-kun, thank you.~" she smiled at him and he shielded his eyes from the glory that was her.

"Ahh! Be still my heart!~♡ " he dramatically shouted.

She giggled. "You're so odd, I love it!"

"I am honored to be on the receiving end of your affection (Y/N)-chwan~" he said with a slight bow that made her giggle more. "Is there a reason that you can't sleep?"

"Not really. I was just hungry. Your food is so good prince Sanji-kun." she smiled at him.

He almost choked from happiness at her constant compliments but decided to keep his cool.

"I am indeed honored, my princess. Especially since it took so long before you trusted my food. Try and get some sleep afterward will you? Goodnight and sweet dreams.~♡" He bowed and kissed her hand again before leaving.

Law had decided to sleep outside on deck until he felt something fall on top of him.

"Hmm? This grass is weird." (Y/N) mumbled while feeling the stiff softness with the tip of her fingers and then looked up when she heard someone clear their throat.

"Oh! Law-kun. Guess what!~" she grinned.

"What?" he asked with a slight smirk. Amused at her current state.

"I drank with Zoro you see–..." she trailed off and frowned as she was trying to remember what she wanted to say. Earning a chuckle from him. "– Oh yeah! And I won!~" she grinned.

"Congratulations?"

"Thank you!" she smiled and snuggled against his chest.

He flinched and blushed a bit before sitting up with her now in his lap.

"I'm surprised though!" she exclaimed out of nowhere, making him jump.
"For a first-timer, I did good~" she laughed.

"That was your first time drinking?" he asked with a confused frown.

"Mhmm!" she hummed while giving a sloppy smile. Suddenly she looked straight at him with an innocent face.

"What?" he glared.

"You have beautiful eyes. They're like silver..."

He choked a little and looked away, his ears red from embarrassment.

Compliments weren't unusual to him but her choice of words was different.

"Drunkard." he muttered.

He felt a hand on his cheek that guided his face towards hers and they looked at each other for a moment.

She smiled at him "I don't know why, but somehow I can't help but liking you." she giggled. "You're rude, cynical and people say you are a sociopath–"

He scowled at her but tensed up when she tucked a strand of hair behind his ear.

"But you're not only those things. You're just–" she hiccuped a little. "–selective." she giggled.

His gaze turned down to her lips before he looked back into her eyes only to notice they were now closed.

"Come on, you need to sleep." he muttered as he got up with her and put her to bed.

The day after, (Y/N) had been keeping to herself more than usual and everyone tried to figure out what could have upset her, which only resulted in Sanji and Zoro blaming each other – getting into another fight.

When she walked out of the library she went in between the two of them, asking why they were fighting again. After they explained she just sighed and put on a smile.

"No one has done anything, okay? I'm just a bit hungover" she said before she kissed both of their cheeks and walked off.

"Oh my beloved (Y/N)-chwaan has granted me with a kiss!~♡" Sanji cried of happiness while dancing around.

"She gave me one too, idiot cook"

"Don't you dare take this away from me stupid marimo!"

As (Y/N) sat on the deck further away from the others she smiled while watching the others play around and bicker.

"Flirting isn't going to help, eventually we will want answers from you." Law said as he walked over.

She looked up. "When was I flirting?"

"Just now and yesterday." he glared while crossing his arms.

"I was just being nice. And even if I was, that has nothing to do with why I don't want to talk about my past." she said as she got up and mirrored his body language.

"Then why?"

"I don't want to talk about it Law. So stop it. It's too difficult."

He scoffed. "I'm not stupid (Y/N)-ya. You suddenly showed up with strange injuries and was afraid of everyone. Then out of nowhere you're suddenly helping everyone out and playing with them. Was that your end goal? To act like a helpless creature and then–"

Everyone on deck went quiet at the impact that echoed through the ship and ran over to (Y/N) and Law to see what was going on.

When they found them they saw him with a deep red handprint on his cheek and her with tears running down her face. He was staring at her, stunned at what had just happened.

"(Y/N)? What's wrong?!" Robin and Nami went to her side and glared at Law.

She shrugged their hands off her shoulders and walked off.

"Oi! (Y/N)?!" the others called as she hurried past them but was then held in place by Luffy.

"Don't run away (Y/N)-chan. Talk to us." he said and refused to let go.

After everything had calmed down they sat down with (Y/N), who refused to look at Law.

"You know (Y/N)-chan. Whatever happened to you is your own business. I am curious, but I mean we're friends now and friends share each other's tears as much as their smiles." Luffy laughed.

She couldn't help but smile. "For such a dimwitted captain that was a beautiful thing to say."

"I know right!? I am just full of wis-fullness!" he laughed proudly – earning a sigh from everyone else.

"I'm sorry Luffy. It's not that I want to be secretive or anything. But I really, really hate my past. There is nothing good about it and if people found out–... I'd rather have the marines make the world forever avoid me than the truth." she sighed before getting up.

"I'm getting off at the next island." she simply said and left.

§

It had been two days since the incident and (Y/N) would not leave the library or talk to anyone.

Eventually, everyone got worried and forced Law to go and apologize. Which had been unsuccessful until Luffy had threatened their alliance.

He rubbed his neck and heaved out a long sigh before he entered the library.

He found her on the couch blankly staring out the window and walked over.

When she saw him, she looked away and got up to leave. But as soon as she passed him he grabbed her arm.

"Can we talk?"

"I told you I'm not talking about it." she said coldly but he could hear that she was pushing back tears.

"Not about that, just, please?"

She looked at him and saw that he was being sincere, so she simply nodded before he gestured for her to go sit down and then took a seat next to her.

"I was way out of line."

"You were."

"And I acted like a jerk."

"You did."

"(Y/N)-ya I'm trying to apologize here." he gave out a frustrated sigh.

"Look Law. I don't know what happened to you that made you this way. But you don't know anything about me either. I may be smiling – but when you have done nothing but cry, scream and hurt in ways that could kill just about anyone. Smiling is all that is left. It really hurt me when you accused me of tricking everyone – when it took so long for me to trust all of you."

The realization of his behavior towards her made Law's heart hurt with guilt and he surprised them both by pulling her into a hug.

They stayed like that for a while until he opened his mouth.

"Corazon."

She pulled away and looked at him confused.

"Your sense fruit power. Are you one of those who can access memories?" he asked and after a moment of hesitation, she slowly nodded.

He rested his forehead against hers and gave her a slight nod as memories of his past flooded his mind.

She understood and closed her eyes – entering his past.

He took a deep shuddered breath while cursing himself in the meantime. What the hell would this accomplish?

After some time had passed he kept his eyes closed out of shame until he heard a sniffle.

He looked up to see tears streaming down (Y/N)'s face.

"Wha – Why are you crying?!" he yelled but looked confused as well.

"I'm sorry!" She buried her face in her hands. "It's just... unfair! You were a child and the other people – Your family – Who the hell gave those bastards the right to just kill them off!? And Corazon... When you found someone to look after you he just dies!" she yelled into her hands before sobs erupted from her throat. "A-And he held out for you, so they wouldn't hear – so you could escape... Oh my god! You were just a child Law!"

Law stared at her in shock. Her reaction wasn't something he had been prepared for.

He expected silence or a pitiful glance at most. But she was crying, no, full out sobbing for him.

It wasn't out of pity though. He didn't know why, but he could tell that she was crying out of empathy. She knew his pain.

Before he could respond she pulled him into a hug, holding his head to her chest in a protective manner with one hand clutching the front of his hoodie and the other arm gently wrapped over his head.

"You came out so strong. I just know that he's proud of you...  They're proud of you." she whispered, her voice still hoarse from crying.

His eyes shot wide until they softened before tears started to spill out. He wrapped his arms around her waist and buried his face in her chest and cried silently before he just let everything out. His family, his home and lastly, Corazon.

She kept quiet and held him while carefully removing his hat and softly ran her fingers through his messy hair.

After he had calmed down they still hadn't let go of each other.

He took a deep shuddered breath and noticed her scent for the first time. She smelled like soap and hyacinths.
He wasn't necessarily fond of that scent but he liked it when it came from her. It was comforting.

He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard her giggle and looked up.

"You're sniffing me." she looked down to meet his eyes while grinning.

"Sorry." he murmured.

"I don't mind." she smiled. "Your goatee was just tickling me."

He looked away as his ears turned red. "Well excuse me" he snorted.

She just curiously tilted her head at him and held her hand out to cover his chin and frowned.

"What?" he asked raising his brow at her.

She shook her head in response. "Nope, I like it better with the goatee." she laughed.

He quickly looked away and let go of her. She just giggled at his blushing.

"I'm sorry about before." he said while still avoiding her gaze.

"I forgive you. And about before – what I said – don't think too much about it."

He frowned in confusion before he remembered, causing his blush to deepen.

'I don't know why, but somehow I can't help but liking you

"Oh right." he mumbled. "Well, I don't hate your company. That much."

She giggled and took his hand. "I can live with that."

Her smile faded at his intense stare and before they knew it – a loud growl interrupted their moment.

She looked away with a red face and he chuckled before getting up.

"Let's go eat something." he held out his hand and she took it before they walked out together.

In the kitchen, everyone cheered when they saw (Y/N) with the usual smile on her face.

Sanji swooned over her and Zoro invited her to sit next to him. She giggled at Sanjis antics and enjoyed discussing different fighting techniques with Zoro.

From time to time they would butt heads and everyone was shocked that (Y/N) seemed to be the only one who could make both of them stop.

When they stopped by an island to get more provisions they ran into Luffys brother, Ace, and they all decided to stay put for a day or two.

Ace hit it off with (Y/N) right away and they were currently sitting together on deck as Ace was showing off some tricks he could do with his fire powers.

"That's so cool!" she exclaimed while her eyes sparkled.

"Here, let me show you something else. Give me your hand." he grinned and she held out her hand. He pressed his palm against hers and set his hand on fire.

She yelped and yanked her hand back.

"Go on, trust me" he smirked.

Unsure, she pressed her palm back against his and her eyes widened at the fact that it didn't burn.

"That's amazing! You can control that?" she asked while examining their hands.

"Of course, I would never burn someone this pretty." he grinned while looking her in the eyes.

She looked away while a blush crept up her cheeks.

Suddenly a foot slammed in between them and they looked up shocked.

"It's time for dinner." Sanji said before leaving.

"Let's go!" Ace laughed and grabbed (Y/N)'s hand, dragging her with him.

At dinner (Y/N) sat with Ace and listened to him as he went on about his travels and the white-beard pirates.

She was so engrossed in his stories that she didn't notice that he had put his arm around her shoulders and had scooted closer.

To him, it was just a friendly gesture since he had become fond of her. But to a pair of steel-gray eyes, this was not appreciated.

"They're just being friendly Law-kun." Robin told him quietly with a sly smile on her face.

He just scoffed and rolled his eyes. "It has nothing to do with me."

She smirked and used her devil fruit power to make a hand discreetly appear behind (Y/N) and poke her hip.

She jumped up towards Ace, startled, and he just laughed as he put both his arms around her.

Law glared at the pair. He couldn't explain the strange irritation burning in the pit of his stomach that was threatening to burst out and destroy everything in its path.

"Jealousy is a normal thing Law-kun." Robin chimed "She might not be that familiar with interactions with other people, but everyone here likes her and it's just a matter of time before someone acts out on it." she said before leaving the table.

After dinner (Y/N) told everyone to go out and enjoy drinking while she took care of the dishes since she was not in the mood for partying.

When she was done she made her way back to the library but was stopped in the hall by an arm that slammed against the wall right next to her head.

"Law?" she looked up concerned, wondering if she had upset him somehow.

She felt goosebumps ripple across her skin and her face heat up at his heavy stare. How could eyes with the cold color of steel hold such burning intensity? His eyes held an invisible chain that went straight through her and held her in place, refusing to let go.

"L-Law?"

"Hm? " he rumbled, not breaking eye contact.

"A-Are you okay?" she swallowed thickly.

He thought for a moment. 'Am I okay?' he wondered to himself.

But he was irritated right now and didn't want to upset her again. So he shook his head.

"I'm fine." he said as he turned away and left.

She slumped against the wall with a thud and slid down to a sitting position.

Her breathing was heavy and she put her hands against her heart that was beating so loudly she feared for a second that it was trying to escape her chest.

"What the hell was that?..." she breathed out.
