Why has life
Become a competition?

Thanks to our carelessness
Our world is dying-
Global warming closing in
And we are worrying about
The color of someone's skin?

Worrying about
Girls liking girls
And boys liking boys

Worrying about
What qualifies as love?

Each day
Hundreds of people
Are taking their own lives
Because they feel
They don't matter
And we are too wrapped up
In making ourselves look beautiful
To reach out
And make someone else feel beautiful.

Everyone is too skinny
Too fat
Too loud
Too quiet
Too tall
Too short

Because of our obsession
With differences
We have created
An impossible standard
Which will only lead to more
Depression-
To more insecurity.

Why must we compare?
Why must we compete?
Can't we just see each other
as, well, people?

Let's stop trying to be better than
And focus on just being better

Let's zoom out on the big picture
And face our real problems.

We are all different
And nobody
Can change that.
Until we accept that fact
And accept each other
The downward spiral
Of human interaction
Will continue.
