Chapter 47- Jealous?

My siblings and Zay stayed over with me at Julie a while. Mainly to convince me to go back home. However, I wasn't persuaded so easily.

The two younger siblings mainly play with Landon there, trying to get him to walk for his toys. Basically, teasing him.

Madelyn is speaking to Julie over a cup of tea. They were closer when they were younger but their relationship drifted apart.

I watch them with a small smile on my face. That was until a huge body decides to plop itself on the floor infront of my feet and leans back on them.

Zayden looks up at my face and grins making me subcausciously smile back. He glances everyone before speaking up. "You looked a little lonely, so I thought I'd just give you some company."

"Oh hush!" I retort as I roll my eyes and pinch his shoulder. He releases a deep chuckle and my cheeks warm at the sound. "I was just... observing."

Then I commence playing with his brown curly locks. I could swear that he stiffened at my touch.

"Clearly." He replies, releasing a long quiet sigh of satisfaction.

"I heard you found out my password."

He shuts his eyes and leans back. "After a couple tries. Yep. Wasn't that hard." A small smile plays on his lips. "After locking your phone a few times."

"Did you really?" I only got a chuckle in response.

"You didn't tell me you were allergic to cats." He opens his eyes to stare at me and frowns.

"Who told you that?" He just smiles in response. "Why would you want to know?"

"What if I wanted to buy a cat in the future?"

"Then I'd tell you no."

"Then I'd ask why."

"And I'll reply with a reasonable excuse." He gives me a weird look making me roll my eyes in return. "I don't like telling people that. Because it kind of broke me the day I diagnosed with the allergy."

"You like cats?"

"When I was a kid. But now, I'm a major dog person. Cats are still okay but dogs are the best."

"I could agree with that." He pauses a moment and I had anticipated the next question. "Is that why you don't go with the blond guy?"

"Are you jealous?" I giggle tugging his hair and he groans. "You're totally jealous!" He rolls his eyes when I lean down to kiss his forehead.

"The blond guy's name is Liam," he shrugs and waves his hand as though saying he doesn't care. "But yes. That's one reason I don't visit him. As much as his cat is adorable, it might kill me."

"So dramatic." He smirks up at me, his blue eyes gleaming. "Wait, they're other reasons?"

I nod, tapping his nose then return to playing with his hair. "I'd be spotted to easily and," my attention turns to Julie. "My father and my mother had a problem with him. They didn't trust him. Julie doesn't like him either."

He raises a brow in question.

"They just had this bad feeling about him." I shrug. "I don't know what they're talking about. He was a nice person."

"Was?"

"Is." He just hums in reply. "You don't believe me?"

"I believe you." Zayden closes his eyes with me still ruffling his hair. "But I also see what they're talking about."

"What?"

"Julie never told you what she meant?" I shake me head 'no'. "Well I don't want to be the one to tell you." He rambles off.

"Why? Come on, tell me!"

"Because I don't want to be the one to change your view on him and friendship." He explains but then mutters something else I barely catch. "Besides, you've known him longer, you're probably going to defend him anyway."

I pinch his nose at his comment. "Don't be ridiculous! Zay-"

A body squishes next to me and head dramatically falls on my lap with a huge sigh. Zayden laughs when he turns around to see who it is.

Julie sighs once more before looking up at me with her hand resting on her forehead.

"Love, I'm tired. Save me from this hell."

"But this is your house..."

"Listen here, you called your house a spawn of the devil. I can call my house whatever I want." She says and rolls her eyes at me. "That took too much energy to say."

"I don't call my house the spawn of the devil. I call my dad that."

"Same thing."

"You only act like this when you feel lonely." I whisper the last word and Zayden chuckles. "Just call Ryan."

"But he's at work."

"Message him?"

"I did, but it didn't go through. He probably has his phone turned off. Because he's in a meeting. I can't distract him."

"What happened to your other friends." She remains silent for a while.

"That's a good idea." Her brown eyes blink and a smile forms across her lips. "I forgot those existed. No offense, Maddy."

"None taken." I watch her taken out her phone and hold it above her face, still refusing to move. I glance at Zayden, on the floor, who had his brows raised. He eventually stands moving to the spot on the next side of me. "By the way Julie," she hums in response. "What were you and Maddy talking about, anyway."

"A very interesting topic actually." She replies not taking her eyes from the screen. Zayden plops beside me and leans his head on my shoulder. "Actually brightened my mood a bit."

"Now I really want to know."

"It's nothing." She glances at me. "Speaking of which, that reminds me why I came across here in the first place. You and Zayden seemed to have a little disagreement."

"It was just a little misunderstanding." Zayden mutters from my shoulder. His voice sounds raspier than usual. He's tired.

"It was about Liam, wasn't it?"

"How did you deduce that so quickly? Do you have some sort of power that I'm unaware of?" I huff.

"No. At the moment, that blondie-"

"He has a name." I snap.

"Sorry, that Liam guy is the only thing- person that would get Zayden worked up and jealous like that-"

"I was not jealous." He retorts.

"Oh please." She rolls her eyes and places her phone on her stomach. "And Madison would reply in a defensive way. Defending Liam, not herself."

"But Liam is a nice person."

"Maybe genuinely nice in the past." My face probably showed confusion. "Do Daniel and Katherine-"

"Her name is Kathleen."

"She's not my friend." She shrugs. " But do those two love birds talk with Liam often anymore?"

"How would I know? I think they do, we went out together a couple weeks ago." Then I think back at the small tension around the table. Not the sexual tension.

"Do you see them talking when you're not around-" she pauses then laughs at herself. "Okay, that sentence made no sense."

I roll my eyes. "Kathleen did tell me recently that Daniel and Liam weren't on speaking terms anymore. Apparently, while I was worried about other things, the two had an argument."

"And what about Kather-leen?"

"Are you her therapist or something?" Zayden cuts in.

"Sorta." I reply.

"Yea, I help her make wiser decisions and help her realise things since she's a bit slow."

"Hey!"

"I could agree with that." Zayden remarks making me flick his forehead.

"Going back to the question before you all gracefully insulted me," they reply 'you're welcome' at that. "She's leaning more to her hubby's side."

"Did she tell you the reason why they argued?" I open my mouth to answer but then shut it. "Huh, then just wait. It'll be revealed sooner than later."

"Why do all you think Liam is a bad person?"

"Wait, Zayden thinks so too?" He shrugs in reply. "Oh, I see. That was actually the conversation I had with your sister earlier."

"Really?"

"Yea. But her opinion changed a bit."

"Huh?"

"More importantly," she starts off flaring at Zayden. "Can you not invade my house next time?"

"Sorry, they wanted to tag along." Zayden answers.

"Yea, understandable but warn me next time. I only live in an apartment. And her family is huge."

"Didn't I tell you?"

"I don't remember." She shrugs, Her phone vibrating. "And Maddy?"

"Yep?"

"Go home. I think you've freaked out your parents enough." She starts. "I think your dad dealt with a mother's wrath enough to understand you better. No doubt Mrs. Witson damaged his ego a little." I huff a laugh. "And as much as he treats you like sh-ips, he cares for you, he just doesn't know how to express it. Sometimes I see where he's coming from and sometimes I don't. Your father senses something wrong, he attacks it without asking for opinions or how it may affect others."

My eyes widen. I've never seen her defend someone so strongly. And the fact that it's my father she's speaking about.

Being rendered speechless from the speech given, I respond with, "Uh, okay." And smile.
