The Rain Girl.

"Damn this miserable weather!" A fisherman's gruff voice reaches Law's ears as he steps off his submarine and onto the dock, grey eyes scanning the area as the rest of his crew follow sluggishly in his footsteps, none of them liking this weather at all.

There's puddles all over the place, many look like they're on the verge of becoming rivers and the sky is dark and cloudy. A petrichor smell reaching the doctor's nostrils as the large rain drops loudly pad against the soil surrounding his body rapidly.

A frustrated grumble sounds from beside him as Penguin waltzes straight through a deep puddle, the water coming up to his shins and undoubtedly soaking the boy. "Damn it! Captain, this island's a waste of time, we should just skip it!"

"He's right," Shachi mutters as he walks on the other side of Law, his hands tucked into his pockets and his nose slightly red, as if he's already catching a cold. "This place is so flooded that there's no supplies here, it's just a dead end, boss..."

This island had peaked Law's curiosity though, the dark male just offers a grunt as a response, his stormy eyes still looking around the atmosphere for an explanation.

He has researched this region before coming here and up until 5 years ago it was a Summer island, they got the odd shower here and there but it had never flooded before, something must have changed and Law intends to find out what.

"It's the witch! She's doing this!" A villager yells out, catching his ear. Naturally, this pulls Law to a halt and his crew also, the group all following their leader's movements. A small man is yelling at a handful of what appears to be other villagers, they all look angry and they're carrying pitchforks and torches, though the torches have been easily extinguished by the rain.

"An angry mob carrying simple tools for weapons? Oh, how original..." The Captain murmurs to himself quietly, a slightly amused smirk spreading across his lips as he listens to them rant. He knew this sudden change in weather wasn't anything natural, a witch wasn't what he had expected but it's sure interesting.

"There she is! Let's scare her off the island!"

"Screw that! Let's just kill her!"

Law's eyes follow the pointed fingers of the villagers to find a surprisingly petite girl, she had beautiful hair and eyes, well in his opinion anyway. He knew the stereotypes about witches were slightly exaggerated, with the crooked nose, green skin and the warts but he hadn't expected this. He had never cared for girls enough to call any beautiful before, but this one catches his eye far too well. One thing that really calls out to him is your mouth and not only because he'd like to run his thumb across your bottom lip before kissing you but also, how sad you look.

Your eyes had a familiar dullness to them, the corners of your mouth were pointing to the ground and your hair was beginning to frizz at the bottom, leading up to the roots. He had seen sad people before; men, women and children but it had never called out to him like this, you were silently screaming for help and although it isn't his problem, he still wants to answer that plea for reasons unknown to him.

He's snapped out of his thoughts when he sees the mob running toward you, the tan male reaching for his sword, about ready to cut them all up. But before he has a chance to even move, a tidal wave rises up from the ocean, the water somehow missing him and his crew, flying right over them but taking out the mob instead, washing them all away.

This was all routine for you though, a daily occurrence. It had started many years ago, despite the storms only happening recently.

You were an only child and your parents loved you so much but they were poor and they often went out on their fishing boat to try and catch food for you to eat, if they failed to do so, you'd have to go hungry for the night. One evening they had come home with a strange fruit and it tasted...awful to say the least. But since eating this fruit, your emotions had serious effects on the world around you.

This had proved itself to be true when your parents went out sailing on their fishing boat once again, you'd always cry because you missed them, you were only young after all. But one day when you waved them off, your tears began to well up in your eyes and you wanted to beg for them to come back and to stay, to skip dinner for the day just so that you could spend some more time with them. You had often wished for this.

Your emotions began to spiral when a large wave began to build itself up, it roughly slammed down onto the edge of the small boat, managing to flip it over. You began to scream and cry for villagers to help but the more you cried, the rougher the sea got for your parents. A few villagers tried to pull you away, to shield your eyes from the horrific scene of your parents being thrown around by the rough tides, but it only made you panic more, your heart clenching tightly when your mother sinks and shortly after, your father followed.

The next day the villagers searched the water and found both of their bodies, they were kind enough to all pull together and pay for the funeral. The island was often rainy since then due to your grief but the rain wasn't all that harsh, just a bit of drizzle here and there.

That is until a certain band of pirates visited the island, a man was leading them named Red-Haired Shanks and he had managed to work you out immediately.

He had told you that you were a 'Rain Girl' and that the fruit you ate was a 'devil fruit' but what really hurt you was when he told you that your emotions could control water. He explained that since you didn't know how to control it, you couldn't help your parents. In fact your distraught emotions were what caused the violent waves that eventually killed them.

Knowing this, you tried your best to be happy, no matter what. For sake of the villagers who were so kind to you after the death of your parents. The pirates had left long ago and you still carry some amazing memories with them, they were such good people for a bunch of outlaws. But something changed, the island and the villagers, the faces you got used to seeing daily. Some left, others changed and some were old and passed away. The generation that followed them was vile.

You were forced out of your home since you couldn't pay what the new owners wanted, you had to steal from stalls in order to feed yourself. But when you were caught in the act, they weren't at all forgiving.

The stall vendors beat you black and blue with planks of wood and other weapons, called you a dirty thief and said that you were a scavenger, just like your parents. And that was when it all changed, 5 years ago now, you snapped.

Your eyes began to tear up and your heart ached painfully in your chest as you yelled at the villagers, trying your hardest to defend your deceased parents, but they only laughed. 'Pathetic' is what they called you for crying and that's when the clouds began to shift and the roar of the sea broke out, the tides became violent and heavy rain began to fall from the skies. It has been like this since that day, many people have drowned in the floods but you couldn't stop it, the hole in your heart was too great for you to fix alone and the rain wouldn't stop, no matter how hard you tried.

"Oi, Rain-ya!"

A male's sudden voice causes you to blink, your hurtful memories fading away and your head tilting in his direction questionably. Your aching heart had seemingly stopped when your eyes lock with his.

You had heard of Trafalgar Law, of course. Everyone had, but you hadn't expected him to come to this broken island and you certainly hadn't thought he'd ever speak to you.

"My name is [F/n]." You softly correct, your brows knitting together as you forge a slight glare, you're so used to people trying to hurt you that you're currently waiting for him to try something. "Not Rain-ya."

"Looks like this place is sick of you." The dark male murmurs softly with a smirk, completely ignoring your comment. Your eyes flicker from each person, this pirate sure has many characters in his crew.

A bunch of people in boiler suits, a lot of hats, a bear, a giant--Wait. A bear? What the hell?

"It'll get sick of you too if you linger too long, Surgeon of Death." You coldly respond with a slight hiss in your tone, your fists clenching tightly as you wait for the man to try and attack so that you can wash him away.

I heard he was a devil fruit user so if he attacks, I could take him out easily...his crew might be a problem though...

"Is that so, [F/n]-ya?" You watch him like a hawk as he shifts from one leg to the other lazily, his eyes still peering deep into your soul and the smirk never wavering. "We can take you away from here, would you like that?"

"EEEEH?!" His entire crew scream out in shock, seemingly taking the words right out of your mouth. The polar bear apparently having a voice himself, his paws flailing around vigorously as he shakes his head at the dark man. "C-CAPTAIN!"

"B-BOSS! SHE'LL DROWN US! ARE YOU CRAZY?!" The two men on each side of him yell in unison, one has a Penguin hat on and the other is wearing a blue and red hat and despite yelling in displeasure, they're both facing you still with hearts in their eyes.

Weirdos...

"C-CAPTAIN! YOU CAN'T SWIM! THIS IS A BAD IDEA!!" The white bear blurts, his perfect vocabulary causing your eyes to widen and your jaw to drop in surprise. You've seen some odd things in your time but a talking polar bear has to take the cake.

"Be quiet. I've made up my mind."

Wait...He really wants me with them?

"S-Sorry Captain!" The entire crew abruptly responds as they all lower their heads obediently. It's at this point Law looks to the sky, his gorgeous grey eyes seemingly lighter now. The rain had grown softer, slowly coming to a halt as a small ghost of a smile spreads across your lips.

"Take me away?" You echo in slight disbelief, drawing in Law's stare, his smirk looking a little more like a genuine smile now as he holds his hand out to you. The first thing that catches your attention is the tattoo across his fingers, the word 'DEATH', it makes you wonder if he had ever lost someone himself.

"Join my crew, [F/n]-ya. I'll help you control your abilities."

You're not too sure whether you should trust this man, a subtle shake in your breath as you sigh deeply in thought. He's known for being rather...brutal and uncaring toward others so why is he willing to give you a home and to help you with your abilities, you wonder.

But then, what is there to lose? You'll end up being killed eventually if you stay here.

"...Yes." Your answer seemingly surprising the surgeon, a flicker of shock flashing in his eyes before they relax again. A pleasant shiver snakes up your spine when you gently take the man's hand to formally accept his offer and the burning sensation in your cheeks is a clear warning that you're blushing like mad right now. "Please take me away from this place."

Maybe being a 'Rain Girl' isn't such a bad thing...
