Fragments Of Fate

While we were waiting to land, I decided to talk to strange. He stood a little ways off, quiet but unreadable as always.
"Um...Doctor strange?" I said, walking up to him.
"Yes?" His voice was calm, detached.
"I just- never mind" I almost backed out, but he tilted his head like he already knew what I was thinking.
"You want to know about what he said. Am I right? He asked, and I froze mid-step.
"Yeah. That's exactly what I wanted to ask" I said quietly.
"You're not going to like it" he said
"Please" I said, bracing myself.
"You're not from this world, Elizabeth." He said, voice steady but heavy.
"You came from a planet that no longer exists. Your planet was at war when your parents sent away- hoping you'd survive. Your last name, pandora, it means 'all-gifted' from where you came from. And thats not a coincidence." He said
I swallowed hard, shaking my head.
"No, no, that's not true. I can't be-" I start
"Elizabeth, your whole life has already been prophesied." He said
I paused.
"So my brother, my parents...they weren't my blood?" I asked.
He nodded once.
"That's correct" he said
I tried to breathe evenly, but it felt like the air had been ripped out of the room. My voice came out small.
"I-uh...thank you, strange." I said
He only nodded, eyes soft for a second before Peter's voice broke through.
"Hey, what's going on?" Peter asked
"I think we're here." Strange said.
"I don't think this rig has a self-park function." Tony muttered, already fiddling with controls.
"Get your hand into this steering gimbal. Close those around it. You understand?" He told Peter.
"Yep, got it, got it, got it." Peter said.
"This was meant for one big guy, so we gotta move at the same time." Tony said.
"Okay. Okay. Ready." Peter nodded.
"We might, uh, wanna turn." Peter mumbled.
"Turn! Turn! Turn!" Tony shouted.
I threw my hands out, my powers flaring as I steadied everyone. The ship hit the ground hard, scraping across the barren surface of a planet that looked long dead.
Tony and strange started talking, but my focus drifted- voices echoing faintly in the back of my mind.
"Not yet"
"Just be patient"
"I want to know as badly as you do, just wait"
Someone else was here.
Peter met my eyes- he felt it too.
"Let me just say, if aliens wind up implanting eggs in my chest or something... And I end up eating one of you, I'm sorry." Peter said
Tony glared at him.
"I don't wanna hear another single pop culture reference out of you for the rest of the trip. You understand?" He said
"He's trying to say that something's coming."
I muttered, my powers already glowing faintly around my hands.
A small metal orb rolled across the ground and stopped in front of us.
"Move!" I yelled, throwing up a shield just as it exploded. The blast sent Tony, strange, and Peter flying, but my barrier caught most of it.
"Thanos!" Someone shouted.
The fight broke out instantly. I shot forward, power crackling through my veins, knocking an attacker backward with a force blast. I spun around- Peter was webbing someone when another grabbed him, pressing a gun to his head.
"Everybody stay where you are. Chill the F out." The guy barked.
My hands glowed brighter.
"I'm gonna ask you this one time." He said, aiming at Tony.
"Where's Gamora?" He asked
"Yeah, I'll do you one better. Who's Gamora?" Tony fired back.
"I'll do you one better! Why is Gamora?" Another guy yelled from the floor.
I blinked. What?
"Tell me where the girl is, or I swear to you, I'm gonna French fry this little freak." The first guy said, shoving the gun closer to peters head.
"Let's do it! You shoot our guy, I blast him. Let's go!" Tony snapped.
"Do it, Quill! I can take it." The one of the floor said.
"No he can't take it!" A girl shouted from behind webbed up.
"She's right. You can't." Strange muttered.
"Oh yeah? You don't wanna tell me where she is? That's fine. I'll kill all four of you and beat it out of Thanos myself. Starting with you." He guy holding Peter said.
"Wait, what, Tha. Alright, let me ask you this one time. What master do you serve?" Strange demanded.
"What master do I serve? What am I supposed to say? Jesus?" The man snapped.
"You're from Earth." Tony said.
"I'm not from Earth. I'm from Missouri." He said
"Yeah, that's on Earth dip-shit. What are you hassling us for?" I said, deadpan.
"So, you're not with Thanos?" Peter asked weakly
"With Thanos? No, I'm here to kill Thanos. He took my girl- Wait, who are you?" He asked
"We're the Avengers, man." Peter said.
"You're the ones Thor told us about." The girl said.
"You know Thor?" Tony asked.
"Yeah. Tall guy, not that good-looking, needed saving." Quill said, and Peter and I exchanged a look.
"Where is he now?" Strange asked.
"What the hell happened to this planet?" Quill muttered later, kicking at the ground.
"It's eight degrees of its axis. Gravitational pull is all over the place." Strange said
"Yeah, well we've got one advantage. He's coming to us. We'll use it." Tony added.
The group of scattered- half arguing, half just...confused.
"Alright, I have a plan. Or at least the beginnings of one. It's pretty simple. We draw him in, pin him down and get what we need. Definitely don't want to dance with this guy. We just need the gauntlet. Are you yawning?" Tony barked at the bug gray guy- drax.
"I stopped listening after you said, 'we need a plan." Drax said flatly.
I sighed and rubbed my temples. God help em.
"Okay, Mr. Clean is on his own page." Tony said.
"See, not winging it isn't really what they do." Quill said.
"What exactly is it that they do?" Peter asked.
"Kick names, take ass." Mantis said proudly.
"Yeah, that's right." Drax agreed.
Tony just groaned.
"All right, just get over here, please. Mr. Lord can you get your folks to circle up?" He asked.
"Mr. Lord? Star-Lord is fine." Quill said.
"We gotta coalesce. Cause if all we come at him with is a plucky attitude-" Tony starts
"Dude, don't call us plucky. We don't know what it means. Alright, we're optimistic, yes. I like your plan. Except it sucks, so let me do the plans, and that way it might be really good." Quill said
"Tell him about the dance-off to save the universe." Drax said.
"A dance-off?" I asked, completely lost.
"I- It's nothing." Quill said quickly.
"Like in Footloose, the movie?" Peter asked.
"Exactly like Footloose." Quill said, smiling.
"Is it still the greatest movie in history?" He asked.
"Well, it never was." Peter said.
Quill sent him a look.
"Don't encourage that, alright" Tony said
"We're getting no help from Flash Gordon here." Tony added
"Flash Gordon?" Quill interrupted again.
"Don't forget, I'm half human. So that 50% of me that's stupid... That's 100% you." Quill said.
"Your math is blowing my mind." I said
"Agreed" tony said with a smirk.
"Excuse me, but... does you friend often do that?" Mantis said, pointing at strange who was floating midair, his head jerking rapidly.
"Strange, we alright?" Tony called.
No response. Then suddenly, strange collapsed, and Tony barely kept him upright.
"You're back. You're alright." Tony said
Strange blinked, disoriented.
"Hey, what was that?" Peter asked.
"I went forward in time to view alternate futures. To see all the possible outcomes of the coming conflict." Strange said slowly.
"How many did you see?" Quill asked.
"14,000,605." He said.
"How many did we win?" Tony asked quietly.
Strange looked at all of us. His expression said it all before the words.
"One." He said
