Chapter Twelve
Jack had gone home the previous night to get the remaining tea leaves, and then Jay gave him a final hug and promised he'd keep in touch. The plan was to put the leaves into Sensei Wu's morning tea, and then Jay would carefully explain things to him. After their Sensei was on board, reminding the ninja of Ornum's infiltration would become a ton easier. Luckily, Jack didn't need to work the next day, so he was able to relax at home. Although "relax" was a relative term, between Ferrah pestering him and his own worry over whether the plan was successful or not as the day wore on.
Finally, after the eleventh "Jaaaaaaaack!" from his sister, he sighed and stood.
"Mom! Ferrah and I are going out! We'll be back later. It might be after dinnertime." He called to her.
"Okay. Be safe, or you're grounded!"
Jack rolled his eyes with a chuckle and waved to Ferrah. "Come on, sis."
She rushed over to him, wide-eyed. "Where are we going?"
"You'll see," he answered, leading her out into the streets of Ninjago.
When they arrived at the mountain, she gaped, shocked into silence for once. He smiled at her, warmed at the excitement in her eyes. The sun was almost halfway across the morning sky, and Jack knew it would likely be nearly noon by the time they got to the monastery gates. Taking Ferrah's hand, he started up the steps. It didn't take long before his sister was panting and even struggling to continue up the steps. He didn't let her take a break, however, until he found his own breath failing. She collapsed on a step, looking as though she would never get back up for anything. When he'd gotten his breath back, he tried to urge her on by telling her that the ninja were within reach, but one glance up the mountain and she shook her head. He sighed and lifted her into his arms, starting back up the steps while she rested for longer. When he again couldn't breathe, she dropped from his arms and pulled him farther up.
Jack's calculation had been correct, as the sun was at its highest point when they finally reached the top. They both were panting, but Ferrah's eyes were bright. Jack smiled at her and pressed the doorbell. He could hear sounds of a fight on the other side, and he smiled as he imagined the training that was going on. He glanced to his sister and saw that she was doing a dance from foot to foot, her excitement seeming too much to contain in her small body.
The door opened, and she squealed happily. "Cole!!!"
She would have rushed forward, but Jack gripped her shoulders, seeing the frown on Ornum's face that gradually turned into a forced smile. Destiny came into view, and Jack smiled. Destiny mirrored him, and she welcomed him. "Good afternoon, Jack. Please come in."
He took his overexcited sister by her hand and walked into the monastery, taking in the familiar sight of his home. Once inside, he said, "Thank you for inviting us. This is my sister, Ferrah."
Destiny smiled and walked closer, kneeling down. "Hi, Ferrah. It's nice to meet you."
Jack smiled as he saw his sister broiling with happiness. "You're Destiny. Master of Density. You have no clue how awesome you are!"
Jack chuckled and said, "You're her second favorite. Forgive her for her extreme excitement."
She looked to him and laughed a little. "Second favorite? Who would be your favorite then?"
"Your cousin, Jay," she answered in a chipper voice. Her eyes stretched wide as she squeaked, "Could he shock me? And could you phase through me??"
"Hold out your hand." Destiny told her with a grin.
Ferrah immediately held her hand up, and Destiny reached her hand through it. Jack grinned as he watched, and Ferrah shivered, flexing her hand with an awed, "Wow!"
Jack laughed a bit, then looked up as he saw blue in the corner of his eye. He recognized Jay and gave him an anxious look. Jay looked startled to see him, but gave a nod. Jack felt relief floof him, and he sat down on the dusty ground, his knees weakening. The Master of Lightning grinned at his sister and came over to join the small gathering.
"Jayyyyyyyy!" Ferrah shrieked, and Jack winced, laughing a little.
"You can't be so loud, Fer," he told her, unable to resist smiling.
"Sensei wants to see you," Jay told him.
He felt surprised, but nodded. "Okay."
"Destiny can show you-"
"I know the way," he interrupted with a wink.
Jay laughed, and Jack left, hearing Ferrah beg, "Please will you shock me?!?"
He entered the monastery and inhaled deeply, relishing the smell of his home. He grinned widely and headed through the monastery, pausing when he got to Sensei Wu's door. He took a breath and slid the door open, swallowing as he saw his beloved Sensei.
Wu looked up from meditating and smiled, waving him in.
Jack stepped in, closing the door behind him. "Hello, Sensei."
Wu stood, and Jack was surprised by an embrace; their sensei rarely gave them hugs. He preferred to show them affection by scolding them, refining their skills and training them to be the best they could be. He hugged back gently, and when Wu broke it, he replied, "Hello, Cole. Or should I call you by a different name, for now?"
"Jack," he answered. "My sister is outside. I hope you don't mind."
Wu looked surprised, but said, "Of course not. You are both welcome here whenever you please. I see you're in a clear predicament."
Jack nodded. "Like you, all the other ninja don't remember me. They think Ornum is me. I don't know exactly how this happened, but I want my life back." He looked down at his hands and said, more meekly, "Please."
Wu nodded. "I understand, Jack. Jay and I want you back as well. There isn't much we can do while our friends don't remember you, so in the meantime I'll work on giving them the enlightenment tea. After they're all on board, then we'll figure out how to fix this."
He smiled and nodded. "Thank you, Sensei. Would you like to meet my sister? I know she'd love to meet you."
His sensei nodded with a chuckle. "Why not."
Jack turned and led the way back out to the training yard. They emerged in time to hear Ferrah squeal, and Jack looked to see that Destiny had summoned her dragon, and Ferrah was indeed awed by the creature. He saw his sister put out a hand, and Morpheus nuzzled it. Jack smiled and walked over, hearing Sensei Wu trailing behind. When he reached the group, he said, "Hello again, Morpheus."
The dragon made a pleased purring noise, and Jack laughed and reached forward to pet him. He leaned in close to the dragon and whispered, too quietly for anyone to hear, "Have you been taking good care of my Destiny, boy?"
Morpheus trilled quietly, a sound that reminded Jack of bells. Morpheus blew a gentle puff of air over him and his sister, and Jack coughed slightly, waving his hand in front of his face with a chuckle. "Your breath smells like dried lizards, Morpheus."
He heard Destiny giggle. "Sorry, he apparently has terrible manners."
He smiled at her. "It's alright. I know that he's a good dragon. I'm glad you're still treating him, even though you think the lizards are gross." He knew that him knowing this stuff would probably creep Destiny out, but he couldn't help the fact that he knew more about her than she knew.
Destiny started, "How did you-"
He smiled gently at her. "Do you know where Kai and Zane are? I know Fer would love to meet them, too."
She frowned but nodded, letting Morpheus fade into thin air. She left, and Ferrah giggled and danced around. A few moments later, Kai and Zane appeared, each with a surprised expression. Ferrah squeaked happily and rushed over to them both, and Jack chuckled. After momentary begging from his sister, Kai and Zane both demonstrated their skills, much to Ferrah's pleasure. Jack watched, and, despite knowing all of the ninja's abilities, found himself impressed as well.
After the two ninja were done, he walked over to join them, saying, "Hi. Sorry for my sister."
Kai nodded a bit, smiling. "It's cool. Don't worry about it."
Zane tilted his head and asked, "Who are you?"
Jack stifled a sigh and explained. Hopefully soon, he wouldn't have to explain who he was to his friends ever again.
