Bonding with Momo

Eri sat on top of the black lacquer wood as Momo's hands danced across the ivory keys of the piano. Next to her Mayonaka sits in the loaf cat position watching Momo as well, both of them slightly leaning over the edge and staring down at her hands as they go across the piano. Playing a piece that has been played by millions of people for the past several hundred years and most famously was composed by Mozart. Rondo Alla Turca. The young girl claps as Momo finishes the last run before closing the cover to the keys. She gives her daughter a smile before picking Eri up off of the piano and allowing Mayonaka to jump onto her shoulders.

"What do you think, Eri? Want to learn how to play the piano?" Momo questions as she carries the girl back to the common room quickly followed by the two other cats.

"I want more pretty sounds." She responds looking at the music box that she normally carries with her everywhere, sitting on the coffee table.

"What she's asking is if you want to learn how to make your own music, nya?" Mayonaka says from his slumped position on Momo's shoulders. Eri looks from Momo to Mayonaka before looking back again before giving her an answer.

"I guess so. I want more pretty sounds though." Eri complains as Momo whisks her away towards the kitchen of the dorms. "Can make new music box?" She asks as Mayonaka jumps from Momo's shoulder to the top of the fridge where he sits down on the cold metal and leans his head over the side watching what she's up to.

"Of course, I know a song from a game I used to play when I was your age." Momo answers before setting Eri down in a high chair and pulling her towards the counter so she can watch her mom cook lunch. Momo puts her hand in front of Eri on the little table on the high chair before the blue and purple sparkles of Momo's quirk starts to appear. Eri's eyes turn to stars as she watches intently as a new music box is formed from Momo's hand. Similar in appearance to the grand piano Momo was playing, the black wooden box had the logo of a certain italian plumber in red and white on the top. The crank is in the same shape as the golden coins from the children's game but gold plated. Eri looks at it for a moment then grabs the music box from Momo's hand and starts to wind the box. With each tick Eri becomes ancy with anticipation for the music to come forth from the newly created music box. When she releases the handle, the lid pops open revealing the comb and cylinder within. Underneath the lid appeared to be a small painting of an underwater world with bubbles and coins in the background.

"Woah..." Eri says as she starts to wiggle in her seat listening to the music. Momo laughs seeing the young girl's reaction to the music box before she begins making lunch for them. Eri doesn't pay much attention to what Momo is making, too busy watching the comb flick the little tines of the cylinder within the music box. However Mayonaka watches intently as Momo skins and slices a fillet of fish that was left over from when Todoroki had made his dinner the previous night. She cuts off a small piece for Amai and Neko as they come over to watch what Momo is doing. She cuts off a larger piece of the cod and hands it to Mayonaka who reaches his paw down and grabs the fish from her hand before beginning to eat it. She batters the fish in flour and some seasoning before bathing it in some egg yolk and repeating the process. She sets it in a pan to fry before quickly chopping some potatoes for fries. After soaking them to get rid of the starch and avoid them turning brown before she adds them to the oil of a different pot.

"So Eri, I have an idea for something we can do today." Momo says getting Eri's attention away from the music box.

"What is it Momma?" She questions, Momo's heart skips a beat when she hears her call her this.

"Two things, I want to start teaching you how to play Piano and after every lesson I'm going to make you a music box? You have to practice though so you can become very good at making music." Momo explains getting the young girl to nod in agreement. "The second thing is I want to know if you want to go to the museum today?"

"What's that?"

"It's a place with really old and really interesting things that we get to look at and learn about. They even have pretty rocks and other things you might like." Eri thinks for a moment, still looking at the music box in her hands.

"Will there be more people?" She questions, before rewinding the music box again.

"Probably but most people stay quiet and just look at the old stuff. Want to go?"

"I guess."

"Alright, I don't think Mayonaka can come with us though."

"Just put the service animal vest on me nya, they'll let me in if I'm in that vest and a harness and leash." Mayonaka says, causing Eri to turn and face the loaf sitting feline.

"What's a harness?"

"Let me just make one and show you Eri." Momo says softly before creating the service animal vest for Mayonaka. Underneath it the black fabric straps of the harness are present and Momo shows it off to Eri. Mayonaka gets off the piano and walks over to Momo before the big busted hero in training puts the cat inside the harness. Once on, she attaches a leash to the back of Mayonaka's harness before giving it to Eri. "Let's go get you changed and we'll head to get lunch, sounds good?"

"Yes." Though her focus wasn't exactly on Momo at the time, more focused on the large cat on the leash. Momo walks her to the kitchen and sits the young girl on the counter before starting the process of making lunch for the two of them, and Mayonaka.

Eri and Mayonaka watch as Momo grabs all the ingredients for tempura shrimp and fried rice. With a sharp knife, Momo deveins the shrimp and cuts the connective tissue between the shrimp so it won't curl when cooking. She grabs the left over rice from the night before and also grabs some peas, carrots and eggs. With soy sauce, heavy soy sauce, fish sauce and tempura batter, she heats up a large pan and puts in the eggs first. Adding the two soy sauces to the eggs during the cooking process before adding the rice. She adds more soy sauce and fish sauce before adding the peas and carrots. Eri and Mayonaka watch intently as Momo flips and tosses the rice around in the pan before breading the shrimp and frying it in hot oil. It wasn't long before Momo separated the rice into two mounds and then into two bowls before placing the shrimp on top for the two of them to eat. Walking over to the fridge to put things away, she grabs the homemade cat food that Mr Aizawa had made for them and portions out some for the three cats giving Mayonaka his own human sized bowl for the mineta sized cat.

"Nya! This is way better than that canned cat food you gave us." Mayonaka says happily as he, Amai and Neko start eating their lunch. Mayonaka seated at the table across from Eri who is being spoon fed by Momo.

"Is it good Eri?" Momo asks as she wipes some of the rice from Eri's mouth, Eri nods excitedly as Momo feeds her another spoon full of rice. "That's good, let's get you changed and let's get going to the museum today." Momo sets Eri's bowl aside and quickly eats her own rice before helping Eri out of her highchair and bringing her up to Izuku's room.

Dressed in a red sundress with overall straps over her shoulders with a white long sleeve shirt underneath, Eri waits patiently as Momo ties up her hair in pigtails. Finishing the last loop of the hairband, she gives Eri the leesh to Mayonaka before helping her off the chair she's seated on. Grabbing her purse and phone, Momo takes Eri's hand as they exit the dorms and head towards the exit of UA.

It didn't take long before Mayonaka started to garner attention from the locals. A small child walking a black fluffy cat almost as big as herself would draw eyes towards them. Eri pays no mind however, the chilly October day makes it almost perfect for a walk out and about with her mom and cat. Momo helps Eri up the high step to the train which is then followed by Mayonaka jumping onto the ledge and walking inside. The large feline takes a seat on all fours in a raised position seated primarily on his hind legs. Others stare in bewilderment at the large feline seated like a person in the chair, even more surprised that in his seat, he actually stands taller than Eri does when she's sitting down. He nearly falls over when the train starts moving but re-situates himself in the cat loaf position taking up the entire seat. Eri stared in awe of what was going past the windows on the bullet train. The trees moving so fast they appeared as a blur of green going past, reminding her of her father.

As the train comes to a stop at the Mustafu station, Mayonaka hops off the chair he's seated in waiting for Eri to follow along in getting up. Momo smiles at the large feline's excitement to get on the move before unbuckling her seat and then doing the same for Eri. Once the child is free from the train seat, the pair and feline exit the train and continue their walk to the Museum. Eri holds onto the leash attached to Mayonaka's service animal harness as they make their way from the train station and to downtown Mustafu. The large feline making it a pointe to explore the sidewalk in front of them, sniffing at the ground, jumping on the window sills as they pass by each shop. Eri didn't know what to expect as the continued to walk through Mustafu towards the museum however the very large fedel japan era building they were approaching was a dead give away. Despite her not knowing how to read she could guess that this building was the museum considering that there is a large brass statue of a samurai in front of it.

The teller at the ticket booth gave Mayonaka a very confused look seeing the toddler sized feline on a leash. However upon seeing the service animal vest around him, the older woman didn't prod any further questions. Giving Eri a small pink wrist band then another larger one for Momo, the teller hit a button on her desk opening the doors for them allowing the two to enter the museum. A gentle smile forms on Momo's face as she sees Eri's reaction to walking inside. The main entrance filled with feudal era artifacts including armor, swords and bows, pottery and art pieces. Eri excitedly bounds over to the displays staring at the silk haori on display. Mayonaka manages to keep up with the excited child as she runs about the main area. Catching up to the excited child, Momo takes Eri's hand in her own and begins leading her around the museum. Explaining fossils, art pieces and replicas as they walk about.

Momo made it a conscious decision to avoid the quirk section of the museum and instead focusing on the prehistoric and ancient displays as they walk about. Mayonaka was particularly interested in the egyptian exhibit walking over to the large obsidian statue of a feline god. "We were once worshiped as gods by ancient man, and to some degree we still are Nya. After all you humans still clean out our crap boxes when we just bury our business and forget it." Mayonaka says in his Beerus esk chipper voice.

"You are aware that there is only so much space in your litter box right?"

"Oh I am well aware, but that doesn't mean I don't like to watch the others clean my litter and then immediately go and use the toilet all the while staring at them the entire time. Nya. So, to my ancient friend. They do still treat us like gods." Mayonaka says speaking to a mummified cat in the display.

Through the rest of the exhibits, Eri excitedly riddled Momo with question after question, her curious mind soaking up everything about her surroundings. THough, she was a bit nervous to walk through the oceanic exhibit as the entrance to the display was arched by the fossilized jaw of a megalodon. Mayonaka merely walked past it showing Eri that it was perfectly safe and there wasn't even anything still attached to it. Timidly the child passes under the largemouth of the ancient shark before bounding off down the exhibit wanting to view more bones and things. Despite Momo's doubts, Eri is particularly curious over the chemically preserved specimens that were on display. Creatures she couldn't imagine suspended in formaldehyde, small sharks, fish, snakes and other creatures. Despite them being dead, Eri gawked at the creatures on display, having Momo read to her what kind of animal it is inside the jars.

By far Eri's favorite exhibit however was the butterfly garden attached to the main building. Showing the receptionist in front of the exhibit their wrist bands, they're told to enter the enclosure one door at a time so as to not let the butterflies out. Eri turns to Mayonaka and gives him a stern look. "What?"

"No eating bufferfwy."

"Why would I eat the bugs anyways? Have you seen how large I am? Besides, I ate when we were at home. Nya." Mayonaka protests before turning to the receptionist. "I'm not going to eat the butterflies. Besides, their wings would taste gross anyways from what I was told."

"O-ok then... go on inside."

With her hair being blown around by the air vents above the doors, Eri's eyes are blocked slightly by her own hair. Once they're inside the enclosure, Momo adjusts the young girl's hair allowing her to see. As her hair is moved from in front of her eyes, Eri gasps upon seeing the indoor rainforest that had been created by the staff of the museum. Hundreds of colorful butterflies float gently by, fluttering their wings to keep them aloft in the air. Having been given some nectar in plastic flowers, Momo leads Eri over to a small bench and after making sure that there's no butterflies on the seat she takes a seat on the bench and is given a flower by Momo. Doing what she was told by the receptionist, Eri focuses as hard as she can to keep as still as possible. It doesn't take long for an emperor swallowtail butterfly to float over to her and land on her hands, walking slowly to the flower she is holding and beginning to drink the nectar within. Eri stares wide eyed at the large butterfly as it opens and closes its wings repeatedly as it drinks. The eye spots on the insect's wings seemingly having a staring contest with the young girl. Soon more and more butterflies float over and start landing on Eri, all slowly walking and crawling on her arms to get at the nectar. Mayonaka stares wide eyed as Eri is soon covered from head to toe in the colorful and fragile insects.

After freeing herself from the insects, the three continue to walk through the exhibit, Eri watches as small painted quail run by them playing and chirping with each other as they run past. Momo picks up Mayonaka in order to avoid him attacking the small birds as they continue to walk through the exhibit. The large feline even has a large butterfly land on his nose causing Eri to giggle at the feline's cross eyed expression as he tried to look at the large insect. As the leave the enclosure, Eri gently picks up a butterfly that had landed on momo and coaxes it to take flight back into the indoor rainforest.

Upon their arrival abc to the dorms, Eri excitedly ran up to Ochako and Tsu and regaled them with the events of the day. Happily telling them of all the things she had learned and seen. Amai and Neko bound up to play with Mayonaka and Eri as they returned home from a day at the museum.
