Prologue

All was peaceful and quiet.

Only moments before, the bloody, violent war had been a rush of hell - a word some of the city cats used.

Now it was calm. A single white tom found himself opening his eyes to the swallowing darkness, his grey face creased with surprise. This was wrong - the cool darkness shouldn't be there. He should be dead. He hadn't the slightest faith that StarClan would come for him, though he still believed in their existence wholeheartedly - something he hadn't told BloodClan in all his time with them. So where was he now?

"You, with the confused expression. You don't know where you are, do you?" The large white tom spun in alarm to see a brown and white tabby watching him. Her muzzle was curled ever so slightly in amusement, and her whiskers twitched. There was an intensity to her, carried by her posture, pulled up with her chin tilted ever so slightly. There was no doubt that she held a self-important air, complemented by her way of speech. "Welcome to the Dark Forest, big guy. I'm Willowfoot-"

"Screw off Clan cat," The white tom snarled at her, turning to the trees behind him.. "I don't want anything to do with you," He said, padding away with his teeth bared in annoyance. "I don't care if this is StarClan or 'The Dark Forest'. I'm not a clan cat."

The tabby watched him go, a hard, unreadable expression in her green eyes. Finally she turned, her intended last words to the white tom laced with a certain gravity. "Shame," She hissed. "We brought you up here for a reason, Talonflight. It would be foolish to turn your back on us here."

"It's Talon," he growled under his breath, disappearing into the murky forest. His mind was spinning with confusion. What happened to BloodClan? Who killed him? What happened to Scourge...?

The soft sound of pawsteps behind him made him whirl around once more, and he saw the same irritating tabby. With a stone cold gaze, she told him,

"Scourge has been killed. LionClan won. Perhaps you didn't do all you could."

"Leave me alone..." Talon flattened his ears against his head, trying not to sound panicked. He could feel his chest burning with something he hadn't felt in a long time. Face now pulled tight in another snarl, the feeling in his chest made him want to scream. Thoughts swimming with violent plans, he decided would get revenge on the clans no matter what, even if he was deceased. He had to.
