Two weeks had gone by and I had recovered, thankfully. It was time for the UA's sports festival, and I could not have been any more nervous. Before I went, both my parents gave me a hug and breathed their prayers into my shoulder as I went to leave for school.
"We'll be watching the program! Do your best (Y/N)!"
A train ride and long walk later, I got to the classroom, where everyone was hustling and bustling to change into their PE uniforms. I sighed and brought mine out, going into the locker room to switch my uniform for the unisex white and blue outfit.
"Everyone!" Iida announced, raising his arms. "We will be entering the arena soon! Please be ready by then!" I noticed as Shoto Todoroki, son of Endeavor himself, approached Deku.
"I'm stronger than you, I know that," he started. "But you have All Might in your pocket. I will defeat you and prove my worth to my god-awful old man. You will be crushed."
Kirishima piped up, trying to diffuse the tenseness that was prominent in the room. Shoto glared at him and scowled. The hetereochromatic male turned on his heel to leave, but stopped when Izuku called for him.
"I know that you have more potential than everyone else." The green haired boy hesitated, feeling everyone's eyes from around the room. "But like everyone else in here, I'm striving to come out on top too. And I won't stop just because of you." I couldn't help but smile at his response. This was a side of Deku that I liked.

All the freshmen from various classes were gather all together in a large mass at one side of the stadium. Midnight was the official referee for this year's Sports Festival, which surprised everyone quite a bit. I heard some lewd comments spawning at the base of the crowd, but ignored them, as I knew most of them likely came from either Kaminari or Mineta.
I'd noticed the representatives for each classroom go up to speak, and I looked around curiously as to who our rep was. Oh no. Bakugo was supposed to be our student representative for the pledge. He got up to the podium and I held my breath, praying to whatever deity that he wouldn't say something stupid.
"I pledge... that I will win." I slapped my forehead as everyone broke into jeers, glaring at the blonde. He seemed indifferent, sauntering off the stage with ease and sneering at anyone who touched him on the way down. I was mad, not because of his attitude, but of the way he made sure to eliminate his own class. Presumably because he knew that we were the only strong competition that could possibly beat him.
He's making targets of us while fueling his competition meter. I hate to say it, but sometimes this kid can really be a genius.

"The first event will be an Obstacle Race 4 kilometers around the stadium!" the pro hero announced, waving her whip around, beckoning towards the screen. "There will be a series of obstacles placed around the track, and it's your job to get past them! The race will start on 3!

3! Go!" Everyone dashed along the brown dirt path. I kept my pace with Shoto, trying to see what he had planned. As soon as his hand moved, I jumped up, making sure to dodge the ice that was now covering the ground. Mineta approached us, hopping on the purple lumps pulled from his head. I narrowed my eyes and picked up the pace, making sure to stay closer to Shoto. I looked ahead and saw the robots from the arena.
Glancing at Todoroki, I knew what he was going to do and followed suit. I knew he had no intentions of helping me, but if he was going to get through, he had to make a path for me as well. We skidded to a stop as a wall of ice formed, immediately immobilizing the robot. I skated through its legs, quickly maneuvering past the surprised male. I winked and grinned, saluting him with two fingers before sliding ahead, then landing on the ground and breaking into a run.
Now I was in the lead, everyone clambering behind me. My strategy was to not get too involved in things, only doing so if necessary.
I looked at the next obstacle only a few hundred feet in front of me. I've heard about this one and anticipated it. It was a skill I've been practicing for years: running on wire. See, this hasn't been showcased in previous Sports Festivals, but I've picked it up from someone rather unusual.
Eraserhead. From the few times he's been on television, I was always there. And the one moment that really stood out was when he was fighting an Earth-type villain. His opponent required him to stay far up, but instead of leaping roof to roof, he ran on wire from the electricity poles.
"I hope I don't fall," I thought, the thin ropes coming into my peripheral vision pretty quickly. I hopped on them with no hesitation and could almost hear the crowd roar. Once I had crossed, I noticed Shoto not far behind me. I seriously had to get a move on.

"And (L/N) makes it past the tightropes with ease! They didn't even have to use their quirk, what physical ability is this?" Present Mic shouted, in disbelief. The crowd started to murmur.
"Are you serious? They must be super powerful if they haven't used their quirk yet."
"But don't you now them? They're (Y/N) (L/N), dude! They got in through recommendations."
"I don't think I've ever heard of their parents. If (L/N)'s this strong, their parents must've been pro heroes or something."
"I know right? But what I'm curious about is their quirk."

"Ah, right there's the mine field left. I hated practicing for this one..." I groaned, breathing in and out, trying to stretch while running. I tried to focus on being light on my feet, yet quick, like a rabbit or some sort of animal. If I did step on a mine, I had to be quicker than its detonation time to avoid getting blasted.
I stepped foot on the mine field, tracing the footwork pattern I had set up back home. It was the quickest way to maneuver in the field. I started to work my way across, some of the other students quickly catching up. I reached the last step of the footwork and finally made it, jumping a few feet and finally landing on solid ground, dashing for the finish line. I kept on running until I heard an explosion and thud from just right behind me.
Deku? He tumbled to the ground, and because of my surprise, I slowed down a bit. I saw his eyes flash as he literally jumped at the opportunity. I noticed this and started booking it to the finish line. My lungs were on fire as I started to slow down, just a couple of feet away from the streamer when a flash of green passed me, beating my time just by a few milliseconds. I collapsed onto the ground, wheezing and coughing as others started to come in, the last of the competitors crossing over. I saw a hand get offered to me.
"Hey, you okay?" I looked up at the green, caring eyes staring back down at me. I smiled and took Izuku's hand, lifting myself up off the ground.
"Yeah," I wheezed, clearing my throat. "Just a little tired." He laughed and patted my shoulder.
"Take it easy, since we'e going to be competing in the next round."
__
"Oh dear." I looked at the scoreboard, then at the crestfallen Deku. I felt all eyes turn yellow and look at him all at once. I whistled under my breath and clicked my tongue. Damn I felt bad for him.
He was the prey today. Everyone was especially determined to win, and he was the prime way in order to do it.
I'm sorry Midoriya, but you're going down.
