XXIX

"I got to go!" we said simultaneously, and raced in opposite directions. I knew that the closest group was Ochako and Tsuyu, but didn't know where they were. I just hoped the first person I bumped into was a student and not a villain. My breathing was labored as I rushed through the woods to try and find someone, anyone and alert them of what was happening.

Suddenly, I heard a scream echo through the woods, then a crash, followed by the sound of something bellowing. I turned on my heel and immediately booked towards that sound. I knew that noise, and I knew what had happened.

"Tokoyami, please be alright," I whispered, my feet pacing as fast as they possibly could, adrenaline racing through my veins. A few minutes passed as the crashing got closer and closer, and when I had reached the clearing, a giant shadow loomed overhead.

"Holy sh-" I ducked as one of its claws swung blindly, knocking over the trees I was hiding behind. I dove behind a rock and peered out at the uncontrollable Dark Shadow, with Tokoyami just hanging in the middle, unable to harness his own power.

I gasped as I felt a hand slap over my mouth and pull me behind the rock again.

"Don't make any noise." I turned to the figure who'd just taken ahold of me. Breathing a sigh of relief, I gently pried his hand off.

"Shoji, it's just you, thank God." He nodded, looking back behind us. One of his dupli-arms formed a mouth shape as he attempted to communicate with me in a hushed tone.

"A villain ambushed us and I tried to protect both of us, but one of my arms got cut off." Shoji showed me a bloody stump in the place of one of the non-bloody, slightly longer stumps. "Then Tokoyami lost control. He went haywire, and now Dark Shadow is really huge." I nodded, trying to rack my brain for a plan, when all of a sudden Shoji tackled me and yelled, "Watch out!" The rock behind us exploded into dust as Dark Shadow roared, swiping at us.

"Who will you save? Your precious Tokoyami or Bakugo?" I clenched my jaw and balled up my fists, glaring at the ghastly figure. I tried to say something but my throat closed as I saw Tokoyami's fear-stricken face in the middle of his own quirk. Tears were forming in his eyes as he clawed at his own neck and face.

"Just leave me!" he shouted, voice ridden with pain. "Go save the others, please! Just go!"

"Shut up! We're not leaving you, Tokoyami!" Dark Shadow attacked again, rampaging through the forest as Shoji and I decided to run.

"We need a source of light to calm him down," I panted, looking at the male running next to me. "We gotta find Todoroki-kun and Bakugo." He nodded and we continued to search, the monster behind us following as quickly as we could run. There seemed to be no hope until I spotted another clearing, and there was the glint of ice.

"There! C'mon, Shoji-kun, we gotta go there!" He nodded, swerving towards the open space, ducking himself and me behind a tree so Dark Shadow couldn't see us. The phantom advanced, then we followed, meeting up with our other two classmates.

"We need you guys to make light to nullify Dark Shadow." Shoto was prepared to make flames, but was stopped by Bakugo.

"Wait a minute, half-and-half." Confused and a little bit angry, I looked up and finally saw what had been going on. The teeth-quirk villain and Dark Shadow had begun to fight.

"Pest!" Dark Shadow roared, throwing him to the ground. The villain only moaned and groaned, getting back up with the aid of its abnormally long teeth.

"Those kids' insides... Can only be seen by me!" He lunged at the ghastly figure, only to have his teeth broken and ass handed to him as he was thrown to the side like a rag doll, incapacitated. I gaped in awe as Bakugo and Todoroki finally used their quirks to calm down the raging Dark Shadow.

Tokoyami fell onto the ground, gasping and wheezing, knees and arms supporting his body weight. I ran up to him and immediately asked him if he was okay, helping him stand up. He leaned on my body as a brace and turned his attention to Shoto and Katsuki after smiling at me.

"Thank you to you two for saving me. I'm extremely thankful for your performance." Both parties nodded in acknowledgement while Tokoyami looked at Shoji.

"I'm also sorry for the loss of your arm. I didn't have control over myself and for that I caused a lot of trouble and pain on your behalf. I'm sorry, Shoji-kun." The grey-haired male waved it off, smiling slightly.

"It's okay, no need to feel guilty about it. It wasn't your fault anyways."

"I'm humbled." A figure suddenly burst out of the bushes, running at a top speed towards us. I pulled out my staff and extended it, prepared for another fight. When the person stopped, I recognized his face, even from the dim moonlight.

"Midoriya?" He nodded, but immediately spoke to the group as a whole.

"Listen, our top priority is to protect Kacchan. He's being targeted by the villains and we need to not let them get him. With out combined abilities, I'm sure that getting him to safety will be easy." Bakugo only scoffed, crossing his arms.

"I know how to protect myself, shitty nerd. I don't need any of your help. I'm more than capable on my own, losers." At this point, I was so stressed and tired I just lost it. I went off on Bakugo, releasing all the pent-up feelings I'd been having for the past couple hours.

"Listen here Bakugo Katsuki, there are heroes risking their lives for us, and we're under a real villain attack, you're one of the main targets, and you still have the audacity to maintain your pride? You can be as airheaded as you want back at school, and frankly, sure, I don't really even care! But here, we're in real danger, you're in real danger, so right now, we just have to make sure the villains don't snatch you up and put you in a snow globe, you hear me?" Everyone stood in silence for a moment, completely dumbfounded.

"I... didn't know you had that in you, (L/N)." I sighed, my nerves much more relaxed.

"Let's just take the damn blonde and go." Bakugo groaned in annoyance, but begrudgingly followed us. We headed back to the base camp, but suddenly I felt a tug on the back of my shirt. I hummed and turned behind me, only to be met with the face of a black and white mask.

"Surprise." Something touched my forehead and the world faded into black.
