Home

christopher and christine never really had a true home. not, at least, after the death of their parents. they had died in a car crash, in the middle of the night, and left the twins with no living relatives.

christine had always seen the best of things, as they moved from home to home. she was the sunshine in the gloomy rain of their life.

christopher, however, held a better despise for just about everything. he hated people, hated storms, hated moving along without any warning. the only thing worth living for was his sister, christine. he would follow her and her light to the end of the world.

that might end up being closer than he would like.

"chris! wake up!" said his sister, a jumble of energy. chris groaned.

"i'm up, i'm up..." he said sleepily, rolling out of bed. their current foster home was nice, but it was obvious it wasn't going to be permanent. and guessing by chrissie's enthusiasm, today was the day they would go to the next house. chris never looked forward to it, but chrissie always saw it as an opportunity for change. for something new, and exciting.

chrissie smiled wide at chris, her heterochromatic eyes glittering. chris had normal, blue eyes, but chrissie had one blue and one brown. such a rare condition, but it made her that much more special. it was almost impossible to look into those eyes and not smile. he gave a half-hearted one, running his hand through his messy brown hair and yawning. chrissie was already dressed, it seemed.

"how long have you been up?" he asked, with a serious tone. chrissie hated sleeping. it worried chris a lot, because she was so full of energy yet barely slept. chrissie scratched the back of her neck.

"um... a few hours?" she responded.

"and the time is...?" he asked, brow raised. chrissie smiled.

"5:00 AM...?"

chris mumbled something angrily and pulled the covers back over his head. sometimes, chrissie was just to much.

"next time, wake me up after the sun is up." he mumbled, trying to fall back asleep. chrissie giggled, but the sound was muffled by the blanket.

"but chris! how can i sleep when i know that soon, we'll be off to a new house! and maria said that this couple might actually adopt us!"

chris shoot out of bed, pulling the covers off his head.

"she said what now?" he asked, actually letting a spark of hope into his heart. chrissie grinned.

"yeah! maria said, that there's a good chance this pair might adopt us!" she jumped up and down on her bed, giggling excitedly. chris smiled, but then stopped.

"as if. remember what happened the last time maria said that? they got rid of us quick enough. i'll bet this couple is the same." he hissed. he was a little bit too mean, and worried it would bring down chrissie's spirit, but she didn't seem to care. no matter what chris said, chrissie always found the best side of things.

"that might be true, but i think this time it's different! not everyone's the same, ya'know!" she responded. chris mumbled, but a smile crossed his face. he rubbed his eyes and went into the closet to get dressed. once dressed, he heard tomas, their foster dad at the moment, yell from downstairs.

"maria is here! get your things together!" he yelled, obviously annoyed. by the third week, most were annoyed with chrissie's sunny disposition and chris's pessimistic knack for trouble. the longest they had ever stayed at a house was a month.

it had been a very short month.

chris already had his things packed, as he never truly unpacked them. he knew better than to get comfortable. chrissie had apparently packed everything of hers early this morning, because she was already bouncing down the stairs with her suitcase in tow. chris followed after her, plastering on his normal scowl. tomas looked tired, his hands on his hips.

"there, maria is waiting for you. good luck." was all he said, as he pushed the twins out of the house. chris hissed under his breath, but chrissie was grinning happily.

"i'm so excited! aren't you, chris?" she asked. chris looked up and smiled tiredly.

"sure. why not." he responded bitterly. chrissie ignored the sarcasm and slung an arm over his shoulder. her curly, brown hair slung over his shoulder as well. he hated his hair. no matter what he put in it, it was always curly and untamable. but as always, chrissie just looked better like that.

chrissie walked up to the midnight blue SUV and tapped lightly on the window. an extremely tired smile greeted them, and the click of the door unlocking.

"c'mon in, kids!" she said, in a fake chipper mood. chris was disgusted by her phony demeanor, but chrissie fell into it. she smiled, opening the door and jumping in. chris followed after her, closing the door behind him.

the inside of the car smelled of new leather, but chris had been in this van for countless years. there was no way it was new. how maria kept it smelling so clean after all this time, was a pure mystery. the cool, beige leather was soft and worn, despite it's new and clean appearance. maria drove off, glancing back at the twins every now and again in the silence.

"i'm sure you will love this couple. they're both very nice ladies that i'm sure will love you, as well." maria said, with a sweet voice. chris continued to look out the window, scoffing once under his breath. this wasn't the first gay couple they had stayed with. they were usually sweet, and understanding, and wonderful, but seemed to throw the twins away soon enough. what would make these girls any different?

"perfect. this'll be just as shitty as the last house." chris said, staring out the window at the blurry scenery. maria looked at him in the rear-view mirror.

"hey... language." she said, not minding his attitude. she had learned to let that slide.

after a short drive, they had made it to the next house. it was a quaint little place, not like the usual lavish house or mansion. often times, it was the rich and bored who tried entering the foster system, because they had nothing better to do with their time. but this place was small, and cozy looking. needless to say, chris was interested now. it wasn't often the twins came across a family who didn't have much money to spare.

maria unlocked the doors, and chrissie jumped out happily. chris followed, of course, but at a much slower pace. once they had gotten their luggage out of the trunk, the odd-looking trio went up to the door, and maria knocked.

"coming!" called a voice from the inside. there was a shuffle, some light talking, and then the oddest people chris had ever seen opened up the door.
