Chapter Ten

Softheather watched as Nightpaw and Birchpaw played in the clearing. The sun had started to go down, and the hunting patrols should be back anytime. Softheathers paws itched to feel the soft grass in the forest instead of the dirt ground in the clearing. She wasnt used to being in camp this long, since she had tried everyday to bring any prey back.
Nightpaw and Birchpaw had started to practice fight in the clearing right after the meeting, with Mintspirit and Spottedrose showing them what to do, since Softheather couldn't yet. At the moment, Mintspirit sat by the medicine cat den talking to Squirrelstar.
Squirrelstar stood up and walked over to Softheather. "Hey, you wont be coming to the gathering tonight. Your to injured." Softheather looked at the moon. Its already full?
"Oh, no it's fine, Squirrelstar. I totally forgot anyways." She smiled to herself.
He nodded. "Okay. But, lots of warriors are going. I want you to be in charge of camp tonight. All the other cats know already. Also, the apprentices are staying."
Softheather nodded and he walked away.

The sun was all the way down now as Softheather stayed in guard. She had argued with Blackpetal over it.
Blackpetal had wanted to guard since she had been stuck in the nursery for moons, but Softheather was able to persuade her to go to her nest and get a good nights sleep.
Now Softheather sat here bored out of her mind. She wanted to be running in the forest, feeling the wind on her fur as she dodged trees and bushes. She wanted to be at the stream that trickled in their territory, with the clear water and the bright green grass surrounding it, with flowers and herbs blooming in the tall grass.
Softheather sighed as she stared into the dark of the night. Nothing was even going to happen, and she needed to do something before she walked into the forest.
That's when she thought of it.
She stood up and looked around. No one was in the clearing. She wondered why no one was guarding the prisoner den.
She carefully walked over there, not making a sound. She looked around before sticking her head in the den.
And when she did, she was met with the same green eyes as her own.
