✮ Chapter 7: Blueberry?

Renjun was welcomed by the sight of Jeno and Ryo in the living room, the blonde boy reading his notes with his glasses perched up on his nose while his younger brother was watching something on the television.

"Hey guys," he greets, walking over to where they were. Ruffling Ryo's hair, he opens his bag and takes out Jeno's varsity jacket folded neatly.

"My classmate said thanks for saving his life today." He chuckles, handing it to the rightful owner of said jacket.

"No problem." Jeno says, scanning his jacket for any sign of smudge or rip on it. To his relief, there wasn't.

"By the way, I think one of your friends mistook my classmate as you because of the jacket." Renjun brings up, clearly amused from the incident earlier while he and his two friends went out to the open field.

Jeno hums on the topic, seems like Jisung wasn't exaggerating. "It's a common jacket." He mumbles, not really bothered.

Ryo, upon hearing this, couldn't help but divert his attention away from the television and comments. "How? Jeno's blonde! Not many students have their hair colored in our school."

Renjun blinks and just realizes that odd mistake Jeno's friend made earlier. Jeno hums once again, getting deja vu from Ryo's words; exactly what Giselle pointed out.

"It could be an impulse, you know you don't really start to realize small or big details until it's too late." Jeno flashes them with a warm smile.

However, his smile wears off and turns into a frown when he takes a whiff of his jacket.

"Hey, Junnie?" He softly calls for his friend's attention again.

"Yeah?"

"Does your classmate vape or something?" Renjun's eyes widen, face palming when he realizes.

"Does it smell like blueberry?"

"Mhmm."

Hearing Jeno's confirmation, Renjun lets out a long sigh. "I'm so sorry, Jen. My classmates usually vape in the classroom and I think my friend was one of them earlier. I'll go ask him."

"It's fine, just– try not to do it so much?" Jeno says almost unsure.

He's not one to comment about other people's habits much, especially when it's Renjun's classmates. He's already dealing with his own section in the HUMSS strand, he doesn't need to stress himself out more than he already is.

Nodding, Renjun excuses himself to head to the kitchen, quickly pulling out his phone and dialing Jaemin's number.

Once the other line picks up, Renjun quietly screams, "Jaemin! Were you vaping earlier?!"

He hears a chuckle, which only irritates him more. "You're acting like that's new of me." Jaemin says, "Donghyuck offered me a quick puff or two while waiting for you, then he said he's heading to the internet cafe because you took too long."

Renjun pinches the bridge of his nose, "that's not the point– your vape's scent or whatever marked itself on the jacket!"

"Oh shit." Jaemin pursed his lips tightly, "is your friend mad?"

"Well, he's upset... He's kinda a conservative person." Renjun replies, emphasizing a bit. "Regardless, you said the jacket would be clean by the time you return it."

"Well– I said I won't leave a smudge or a mark–"

"You left a scent, you moron." Renjun deadpans, clicking his tongue.

He's embarrassed, to say the least. When he had asked Jeno if he could borrow his jacket at the flag ceremony this morning, he made a promise to not let anything happen to it.

Plus, Jeno doesn't really like vices. He doesn't hate them to the next level, he just personally dislikes it. He has no interest of it at any way, considering how he was raised as well.

It would've been fine if it had a different smell, even spraying a different cologne on it. But it was clearly the scent of vape juice, Renjun can't really save Jaemin's mistake this time.

"Tell him I'm sorry..."

"I already did. Still, Jaem, we practically promised–"

"I know, I know." It was Jaemin's turn to sigh, "hey, uh, tell your friend I owe him! So if he needs something, I'll be right there to help! That's my way to make up for this little mistake."

Running out of ideas, Renjun gives in to the suggestion. It's not too bad of an idea, "alright, I'll let him know."

"Thanks, man." The call ends, Renjun runs his fingers through his hair and walks back into the living room.

"Hey, Jen." Catching the blonde boy's attention, he takes a seat beside him on the couch. "My friend is really sorry for the mistake, I know you kinda have a dislike towards vices, and the smell of blueberry flavored vape juice from your jacket took you off guard, my friend said he owes you a lot and to make up for this, you can call him if ever you need help."

Jeno bites his inner cheek, carefully listening to Renjun's words. He drawls out a quiet hum, nodding off a moment later. "I guess that works, I'll let him know if something comes up."

Renjun smiles in relief, patting Jeno's knee before standing up, "I'll go order us some food, I'm too tired to cook." Ryo cheers in excitement, standing up as well, following his older brother while listing down some food he wants to eat.

Jeno closes his notebook and takes another look at his brown varsity jacket, pushing his glasses back up, he gently brings the jacket closer to his nose to take another sniff of it.

This is so weird. He thinks to himself.

It definitely smells like Blueberry flavored vape juice, it kinda irks him at the thought, but he tries to look at the brighter side rather than stress about this little mistake.

At least it doesn't smell like a cigar.

He nods to himself in agreement, yeah this is certainly preferable. And besides, it's none of his business why Renjun's friend vapes... Or any other person in their school.

He's not close with them, let alone friends with those people.

If it were Chenle or Giselle, or even maybe Jisung, yeah perhaps he'd let out a quick rant towards them for leaving a scent on his clothes... Which won't be the first time.

However, this is not the case. This is a stranger's scent we're talking about, Jeno doesn't really have the guts to go confront said person.

Besides, this person already said and promised he owes Jeno in the future... He'll have to think about that and use that card very carefully then.

The doorbell rings, snapping Jeno out of his state. "Jen! Can you go get the door, please?" Renjun calls out for him from the kitchen, "Ryo, quit goofing around and help me set the table!"

Author's Note:

This happened to me before lol my mom freaked out and asked me why and where I got this faint scent of vape juice. Then I remembered I was hanging out with my friends from the other strand.

And because this boy and I were close– like, commonly teased as a "fling" or whatever, we were stuck to each other's side that time... Plus, their section was ALL BOYS, and his classmates were vaping as well lmao

I explained it to her and thankfully she calmed down, even my dad joked "at least she doesn't smell like marijuana or cigarette" 💀
