7: A Walk Through the Park
Haru's POV~
The park wasn't far from our place. At least that's what I was told. For all I know, it could be miles from here. I mean, in this world, beastman roam around, and humans are considered pets. As far as I'm concerned, their version of long is my short. And the other way around. I mean, it doesn't hurt to get exercise either, I suppose.
After about maybe ten minutes, we were already at the park. So I guess that theory of mine was wrong then. At least I know that now. Right now, Josh was holding my leash as we continued to walk. I look up at him and he smiles back at me. I look over at Nathan and he does the same.
We were about to enter the park before Nathan pulled me close to him. He touched his forehead with mine and looked me in the eyes with a very serious, but gentle look.
"Haru, remember that this is a park in our world. I'm not sure how different our world is from yours, but keep this in mind. In our world, most humans don't speak the same as us. Technically, you're not even supposed to speak in our language." I then thought about something, so I decided to ask.
"Wha-" I didn't get to answer as Nathan put a finger to my mouth. "We can answer your questions later, Haru. For now, we're in a public setting. And I'm sure you can handle it, but no talking. Okay?" I nod my head in understanding as he nods. We then enter the park and start to walk around a bit.
I look at the animals that were here and thought about them. Some seemed very similar, yet different to animals in my world. Like, things that looked like dogs of different breeds had things normal dogs didn't have. Some had multiple tails, more ears than normal, and some even had wings. It seems animals in this world are a bit different from animals from mine, but have lots of differences. I assume the names of these creatures aren't called what I'd call them.
The world itself though was basically the same. And I do know there are some big similarities with some things. It seems that the only big difference is mammals and reptiles. Normal fish exist here. The same with bugs too. Butterflies, house flies, and koi. But as said before, they're probably called something I wouldn't normally call them.
Another big difference is that some of these beastman look to be creatures that don't exist in my world, but at the same time do. I think I see dragons here. Dragon beastman. And I think I've seen a few alligator, crocodile, and lizard beastman as well. The only thing that doesn't exist here from what I've seen, are humans.
It seems my thoughts were a bit obvious as Josh took a seat on a bench. Nathan walked over to a stand that was out here. Like a concession stand in the park. Josh picked me up and sat me down on his lap as he held me close. He then started to whisper in my ear, which kind of gave me shivers, but he also answered a few of my lingering questions.
"These animals you see are called Dagees. You'll see us beastman walking these pets around a lot. And these small things flying around are called bugs. Like the ones with beautiful wings are called butterflies. And those over there in that pond are called fish. Those are koi fish, to be exact."
This surprised me. Quite a lot, actually. Bugs are called their normal names, and the same applies with fish. A big similarity from my world. I'd say something to Josh about it, but as Nathan mentioned earlier, we're in a public setting. Meaning they'd probably get a lot of unwanted attention if I even dared to say one word. I didn't want to cause them that sort of danger, so I stayed quiet.
Nathan comes back with what looks to be sweet rolls. He sits beside Josh and pulled me towards him so that I was basically between, but on both of them at the same time. He hands Josh two of the rolls and hands me one too. He had another in his hand, but probably wanted to make sure I liked it first. I mean, if it's the same as back home, then I will surely like it.
I took a bite out of it and my eyes grew large in surprise. These weren't just any sweet rolls. These were pepperoni rolls! I took another bite in excitement. This brought laughter and happiness to my two owners. Damn, that feels so weird to say. I mean, what else do I call them? Owners? Masters? Dads? I can't really say. Master would probably put them in an awkward position. So I guess owners will have to do.
After I finished my first one, he handed me the other one and I continued to eat it. As I took a bite, something started to happen. And it sounded urgent. Nathan and Josh both got up. Josh tied my leash tightly to the bench.
"Stay here, Haru. We'll be back. It looks like a child just fell out of a tree. We'll go and see if they're okay. Just stay put and continue eating, okay?" I nod my head and they ran off.
I continued to eat my pepperoni roll until I was done with it. I stayed put and watched them from a distance. Sounds like it must be that bad. As I watched them, my vision got blocked. I then looked up and saw a tall beastman staring down at me. It looked like a leopard or cheetah. Maybe a Jaguar. He wasn't as tall as Nathan or Josh, but just like the both of them, he still towered over me. And he was pretty buff as well.
He then kneeled down to my height, almost. Since he towered over me, he was still taller than me, even as he kneeled down. "What's a cute little thing like you doing out here? Did your owner abandon you? How awful."
I wanted to respond, but I couldn't. He then looked at the leash. "Come on, let's untie you, and then we can head home together. Humans are so rare and valuable. I don't understand how your owner can just leave you here." He untied the leash and started to pull. Of course, I pulled back. He was strong, but I can't get kidnapped by some beastman. I was so close to shouting at him to stop. But I can't...
Nathan's POV~
After the ambulance came and took the child in, I look back to where Haru is to see someone pulling at his leash. I growled at the sight and quickly ran off. Josh looked at me, but saw what was happening and ran with me. No one is taking away our human!
Once we got over there, we both yanked the leash out of the guy's hand. I was the first to yell.
"Back off! He's ours!" I said with anger. Haru then hugged my leg like a small child trying to hide. Josh then continued.
"We paid a lot for him, so keep your hands off! He's our precious baby!" I looked down at Haru who kind of blushed in embarrassment at Josh's phrasing. The guy got defensive after we yelled.
"Sorry, sorry! I didn't know! I thought someone abandoned him here!" After a bit of talking, he finally left. Josh and I both hugged him tightly.
"Sorry we left you with him. The kid over there fell out of the tree and it looked like he broke his arm. Next time, we'll have one of us stay with you. You know we can't afford to lose you." He doesn't say anything and just nuzzles close to us, assuming it meant that he was forgiving us.
Our time was interrupted by a voice behind us. It was the same Jaguar. "It's really weird for you two to talk to him as if he can completely understand you. You should treat him like a Dagee like most people. Weirdos." Josh got a slight bit agitated.
"Would you just leave already?! We're having a small family time!" The guy just rolled his eyes and left.
"Haru, we'll go straight home. We can go to our other stops later. Okay?" He nods his head as we all head home together. Thank god our child is safe.
