Cordelia POV
You would think that with Elizebeth gone, everyone would live happily ever after, right? People need to remember that their is always someone out to get you.
Caution should be practiced with every situation. There is no room for mistakes, or miscalculations to be made.
I miscalculated on how fast the plot would be moving, after the death of Elizebeth. I should have taken more precautions in saving those who I have grown fond of.
You may be wonder who I am taking about. I am talking about, the strict Beatrix and the famous white rose, Christa.
They are actually very nice women to be acquaintances with, I'm lying, their my friends. We had even planned to start a club of wives against Karlheinz. That was the first time that I had heard Beatrix laugh out loud.
I think the children would have joined the club too... But sadly this is not meant to be. This is not a Disney fairytale with a happy ending. This is the supernatural would were nothing matter except power and blood.
I was away tending to business, their was some problems with an orphanage that I had set up. I will explain later.
Beatrix was doing her daily business, she is noble housewife and not a fighter, that's not to say that she doesn't have a few tricks up her sleeve.
She was completely caught of guard by her attacker, a vampire hunter. Beatrix didn't go down without a fight from what I had seen. She tore off one of the perpetrators arms. I smirked at the pain she had inflicted on him.
It would be nothing compared to what I was going to do to him. From the looks of the arm and hand, I would say that it was a man.
However, Is was unlucky of those who had found her body, Shu and Reiji. It made my heart break for the boys. They knew immediately what I was planning and wanted in.
Their mother may have been strict on them but she had relax a bit and spent more time with Reiji than what the anime had shown.
The other matter was Christa's mental state. It had gotten very bad, especially towards Subaru. That promise I made I had intended to keep. I would still do it even if we didn't make that promise.
Subaru was devastated at the loss of his mother, Karlheinz had sent Christa to a tower. I sent a doctor every week to see if we could rebuild her mental state but it was looking very unlikely.
Karlheinz is an idiot for playing with women's heart. I shouldn't be surprised because he has none.
I am currently at the orphanage that has been having questionable things happen to it. I was staying a few days to fix the problems myself, despite the demands that I come home from the boys.
Anyone's POV
Cordelia steppes our of her carriage with elegant steps, the driver had reluctantly let her carry her own luggage. She waved the man off after paying for the ride.
At first glance at the orphanage, it was a moderate building that looked like it had seen better days. Cordelia couldn't see any children out at the front.
'Something is definitely wrong. The children are probably being used, it happens all the time in this time period. Their is no child welfare state,' thought Cordelia with a wince. She made her way through the dirtied path to the front door.
She lightly knocked the door, a few seconds later a scrawny looking boy opened the door. He looked at Cordelia with a fearful gaze.
"Yes," he squeaked like a mouse, greeting a cat. However it seemed fake. Cordelia gave a gentle smile, trying not to frighten the child.
"I would like to see the caretaker, I had made an appointment to speak with him, regarding the orphanage," Cordelia told to the boy, who cringed at the mention of the caretaker.
"I'll take you to see him, miss," the boy said as he opened the door more to let her in. Cordelia walked into the orphanage.
"Thank you," she strolled the orphanage corridors with the child.
'This place it smells dirt, blood and the odd smell of sex. Don't tell me... Disgusting vermin using a child like that,' Cordelia tagged internally
"Are you a noble?" The boy pipped in, breaking Cordelia away from her thoughts.
'Aren't you a smart boy to deduct that.'
"Yes, I am. Your eyes show a hidden intelligence, far too intelligent to come from an orphanage, tell me child were you once a noble?" Cordelia asked him curiously, the boy flinched at the question before answering. He seemed vaguely familiar to her.
"Yes, I am my Lady. You deduced right. If it is not to much trouble, can I ask, why are you here?"
"Tell me your name and I'll answer your question," said Cordelia.
"Why would you want to know my name? To a noble's view I am nothing more than vermin but fine. My name is Ruki,"
"Ruki? Such a cruel fate. The reason that I am here is because I am the owner of this establishment, and I have been hearing some concerning news about it." Ruki glared at her. Was she the reason for this hell hole? "Tell me do you know anything about it?"
"I..." Rui was cut off by a boastful fat man, walking towards them. The man eyes Cordelia with lust.
'What a pig.'
"My name is Rido, Lady Cordelia, it is a pleasure for you to come to our humble orphanage," the man said with a smile, a greedy glint in his eyes. "Ruki, didn't bother you did he?" The man gave a warning glare at Ruki.
"Not at all, he was very helpful to me," Cordelia gave a fake laugh, the man relax.
"Shall we go to my office, Lady Cordelia?" the man asked, he turned to Ruki. "Continue with your other duties," Ruki nodded not wanting to be punished.
The two made their way to Rido's office. It was small and basic. Cordelia took a seat on one of the chairs. She winced as it was uncomfortably stiff in her back.
The two talked for a few hours about the inner workings of the orphanage. After they were done talking, Cordelia went to her assigned room. She had asked for one of the children to come into her room with dinner.
Knock, knock
"You can come in," told Cordelia, she was sitting at a desk. This time a different boy came in with a tray full of food.
The boy is question had blonde hair, a blue left eye, his hair covered his right eye. He had cleaner clothes than Ruki.
"I have brought your food, Lady Cordelia," the boy said in a emotionless tone. He place the food on the desk, and stood waiting for Cordelia's order.
His hands reached for the top bottom of his shirt. His eyes widened as Cordelia grabbed his hand to make him stop.
"There will be none of that. Sit down. I want some company but not that type of company," Cordelia spat out with venom. The boy flinched at her tone but sat down next to her regardless. "Answer my questions and you can take some of my food."
"If I answer your questions you'll give me food, just like that? You won't punish me if I don't know the answer," the boy asked.
"No, I will not. First question, what is your name?"
"My name is Kou, Lady Cordelia," He said respectfully. Titles always annoyed Cordelia but they were needed. Cordelia held out a bowel of grapes for Kou to eat.
He picked up a grape and plopped it into his mouth.
"Second question, the orphanage... what has been happening behind the scenes?" She knew what the answer would be but she wanted to hear it from they boy. Kou flinched he shook in fear. "I'll take the reaction as your answer,"
Kou sighed in relief, he didn't want to even think about what those nobles did to him or anyone else in the orphanage. He wasn't a fool to tell her, if the Rido found out, he would...
"So my orphanage is run by a tyrant that sells children? This will not do," Cordelia mused, there would definitely be changes, and punishments handed out. "Oh, I forgot you were still here, your free to go. And take the food with you I'm not hungry. Have it if you want."
Kou gave Cordelia a grateful look, no one in his years of existence I've had rewarded him without wanting something esteem in return, wether it be service or his body. It gave him hope, that the shit hole would become better. But he wouldn't experience that because he was leaving tonight, with the others.
Later that night, Cordelia couldn't sleep. She knew something was in amiss but she didn't know what. She used her hearing to listen into her surrounding.
"We need to go now," a voice said, it sounded like Ruki. "Azusa and Yuma."
"Ruki is right come on, otherwise their going to catch us," a voice that sounded like Kou. A crowd of footsteps were heading towards them.
"Shit, someone must have heard us!"
"How convent for my presence to be here when children are about to be murder," Cordelia huffed sadly at the scene she was about to witness.
She had arrived to late, she was meet with a science of half beaten, half dead children. Cordelia gave them a small sad smile.
"Your that lady," Ruki said weakly with blood dripping from his mouth. Kou stared at her, unable to move while the other two looked at her cautiously.
"Are you an angel of death?" Kou chocked out. "Is that man too?" Cordelia was confused, man? What man? How did she not sense somebody behind her?
A hand rested on her shoulder, she felt fear. Cordelia turned around to be meet with the sight of Karlheinz.
"What are you doing here?" She asked.
"Now is not the time to be asking questions, my dear Cordelia." He approaches the boys. "Do you want to live?" He held out his hand to Ruki. As Ruki took Karlheinz hand he looked at Cordelia with hope. All the boys did.
'And more pawns are added to his plan. But he must remember that a pawn can still take down a king.' Thought Cordelia. 'You don't want your pawns turning on you know, Karlheinz.'
