Little Lily
(Warning: the story contains sensitive elements and is slightly related to religion. But please remember that this is just a product of imagination and does not defame any religion)
In the fading light of the afternoon,
Within some angelic shrine, a fragile soul knelt in prayer. They were endearing, so devout in their reverence of me. But would their faith be rewarded with goodness in return?
I observed them from the celestial realm above. So small, yet they stirred something within me-a curious allure. Perhaps I should descend and see for myself? What is this little creature's name? Do they do anything besides worship me? I mused, uncertain of when I began to care about such matters.
I lowered myself closer, to the place where that soul knelt. They did not notice my presence-or perhaps they simply could not perceive it. Their small face lifted, and those once-shimmering eyes had been extinguished, now void of light, staring with an empty gaze. Yet, strangely, I felt something soft and peculiar within me. Was it pity? Or merely curiosity?
"What are you praying for?" I spoke, though I knew well they could not hear me. The wind whispered through the shrine, carrying my words away. Yet, as if responding to some unseen force, the little creature murmured, "I beseech the divine... Please grant me a wish, just one final wish."
The phrase stopped me in my tracks. Final? "What do you mean by that?" I asked, though I already understood what they desired. One look at their face was enough-their delicate features, marred by bitterness that crept into their blank expression like a shadow.
"I pray that you obliterate the wretched beasts in this temple," they said softly.
"...And what will I receive in return?"
"I offer my soul willingly. Please, grant me this, I beg you."
The words seemed involuntary, but I could feel the hatred radiating from them. It was raw, unfiltered, and undeniable. Perhaps it was time to reveal myself. Their expression shifted to one of astonishment-and fear, but I merely smiled.
"As you wish."
It didn't take much effort to find those who had inspired such hatred in them. For me, purging the corrupt souls of the wicked was hardly a challenge.
Their name? I discovered it too-Lily, like the flower of purity. But why, then, have they been reduced to such ruin? I pondered.
The last of them was the bishop. I confronted him, demanding the truth- what he had done to my precious Lily. I even promised him mercy if he confessed. Foolish creature that he was, he nodded eagerly, spilling the wretched truth.
He had violated them-my Lily, not once but many times. His deception ran deep, hiding behind the guise of collecting alms for orphans while hoarding wealth for himself. His crimes were endless, his soul tainted beyond redemption. Oh, filthy spirit, I shall grant you a "gentle" end. My promise of mercy? Forgotten. I had lied.
Once the deed was done, I returned to Lily. I brought them the bishop's severed head. Were they horrified? No. That fearful expression slowly gave way to a twisted smile.
"Th... thank you! Thank you so much...!" Their once-soft voice now trembled with unhinged fervor. I merely smiled, pitying this broken being.
"And now, as promised, I offer you my soul. Thank you... again..." They knelt before me, their devotion unwavering.
Truthfully, I didn't want to take their soul. But a pact is a pact, and so I did.
In a single fading afternoon, I had gained the one I love. Now I return to the celestial realm, not alone.
With Lily by my side, we shall remain together.
Forever.
