INCONSIDERATE
▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

"What's up with all the stuff you're holding?"

Kaigaku quickly paused his game to look towards the side where you stood, a large basket at hand. You had barely even said as much as calling his name, and yet your boyfriend already looked annoyed.

It was like he was annoyed at your very presence—which in turn, also made you annoyed.

"A picnic basket," you answered simply. Holding an aggressive stance, you made sure your face did not waver against him in the slightest.

"You're dragging my ass out on a picnic?" he questioned incredulously.

Kaigaku scoffed as if you were interrupting some important event he was having. He quickly brushed you off and put his headphones half back on, returning most of his focus to the television screen before him.

"Yes," you replied to him. "And since it's"—you quickly glanced over at the ticking clock hanging high on the wall—"already lunchtime, we should start heading out."

"Nah."

The answer was immediate, practically shutting you down instantaneously. If anything, that response only ticked you off even further.

You already spent so much time going to the store to find a picnic blanket and basket, and you even prepared lunch for him and yourself. For him to just downright deny you like that really did hurt. But more than that: it made you annoyed.

"Just this once," you sighed.

Even after showcasing your clear aggravation through your tone alone, he still did not budge, instead choosing to flat out ignore you. With another sigh, you gave up.

"I'll buy you Cyberpunk 2077 if you go."

"Yo, deadass?" Kaigaku excitedly turned to you, finally putting down his controller. And when you nodded, he stood as he exclaimed, "I can finally meme about the game!"

You cleared your throat roughly, telling him, "You have to go out on a picnic with me before that can happen."

Kaigaku then pouted again, almost as if he had to go through hard, manual labor before he could obtain some game—like it mattered to him more than you did.

▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂▂

"I don't know why you didn't let me bring my Nintendo Switch," Kaigaku groaned, rocking his own body back and forth as he sat on the ground.

Your boyfriend stood on the grass, bored as you laid out the picnic blanket yourself. His arms were crossed and his face looked annoyed—it was more than clear that he was not willing to help you out. Even as you set down the basket with the both of your lunch, all he did was sit down and watch you.

"I could've played some games as I waited for you to set up," he continued to complain, pouting in your direction.

Patience was hard to keep, but you really did try. It was incredibly hard to just ignore him and keep your mouth shut. Half of you wanted to give up and end what was supposed to be a nice picnic right here, but you knew that Kaigaku would simply rejoice at that.

"I don't know about you," Kaigaku continued despite your silence, "but I'd much rather be home right now." He pulled out his phone, checking the time. His thumbs then began to tap away on the screen, seemingly typing something.

Fuck it.

Your boyfriend continued to complain, "The boys are co-oping later today and I was gonna join them—"

"Why are you so inconsiderate?"

There was a pause due to your sudden input, and Kaigaku looked surprised when he turned to actually face you.

"What?" he questioned.

"You never appreciate the shit I do for you," you fussed. With angered hues of (E/C), you glared him down; And for once, he actually felt intimated by your stance. "All you do is complain when you're with me. No matter how much work I put into things—making time for you, learning how to cook your favorite peach dishes—you never appreciate it."

By now, you were just rambling all that had been getting on your nerves about him for the past few months.

And thankfully, your boyfriend actually seemed to be paying attention. Out of respect or out of surprise, you did not know; But either way, he was listening.

"I," Kaigaku began, nervously scratching the back of his neck. "I don't really know how to reply to that?" he awkwardly laughed.

You tried your best to not let out a sarcastic comment in order to allow him to continue.

"God," he swore out. "Am I really that much of a dick to you?"

"Yes."

Kaigaku flinched at the lack of hesitation in your answer.

He breathed out, "To be honest, I don't really know how to deal with these sort of things." His statement was surely appreciated, but you did not forgive him just yet as he continued. "I'm not great at dealing with emotions," he began to admit, "and I'm stupid for not realizing how much you do for me."

The atmosphere became awkwardly silent as his words trailed off. And at your own lack of words, your boyfriend figured that he still had to continue talking.

"I'm sorry for being a bad boyfriend," Kaigaku mumbled, almost as if he did not want to admit himself as that.

After another moment, you sighed, for you realized that this was the most you'd ever get out of him.

But if this was the most, then you were satisfied with it.

Kaigaku apologizing was something you rarely got to witness. So for him to actually get serious with you meant that he was trying, and that itself was good enough—it at least meant that he still cared about you.

With a sigh, you responded, "You're not that bad of a boyfriend since you recognized your mistakes and apologized."

"'Not that bad' still means I'm pretty bad," he grumbled quietly.

You laughed at this, and continued, "But now that it's over, can we please just enjoy this picnic together?" With slightly pleading eyes, you looked up at him, and you swore that he seemed a bit more relaxed than before. "Like an actual couple?" you added.

"Yeah," he smiled. "I think I'd like that."
