Ballroom Dances - Kirumi Tojo

Requested by: dancingmothers

(I totally was not inspired by this person's username)

A/N: By the way, these requests are written in no particular order. I just write for whichever one I get inspired for.

P.S: This one-shot takes place in a Royalty AU setting.

"Pardon me, good sir,"

"But I believe the princess's first dance is reserved for me."

-----------------------------------------------

"This is stupid. I look stupid."

"Oh hush now, Y/N. You look beautiful!"

Your mother grinned at you nonchalantly as the seamstress tailored a poofy dress over your bunched up figure. Constricted by the tight binds of the corset underneath, you grit your teeth in annoyance when the maids around you clapped in unison at how "pretty" you looked. Never mind the fact that you could barely move.

"Oh, my daughter has grown so mature!"

"Mother, I look like a pom pom that got shoved into a cotton candy machine."

"Well...you haven't grown too mature."

Your mother sighed at the dress upon you and whispered something into the seamstress' ear. The woman nodding and beginning to undress you to fit in another gown. "Must I do this again?" you complained, sighing in relief when the pom pom dress was lifted off of you.

"Y/N, it's your eighteenth birthday as the princess of Regalia. It's a big celebration into adulthood. As a royal, you will be--"

"Carrying out new responsibilities, being an impactful role model for the kingdom, etcetera, etcetera." You rolled your eyes at the thought. You've always dreaded the day you became an adult, but you knew you couldn't stay young forever. "I apologize for sounding so bleak, mother. But I do not wish to be pressured this much on my birthday of all days. You're making it sound like...like I'm becoming Queen!"

"Hah!" Your mother laughed at the statement. A teasing laugh, but a laugh nonetheless. "Oh heaven no, child. You are far too young to be Queen just yet. And I'm still quite capable of ruling, thank you very much."

She patted your head gently, careful not to mess up your hair as she took a step back to admire your new gown. "Well would you look at that..."

It was there that you realized the seamstress had finished putting on your new gown. The slim fabric of F/C sparkling under the chandelier lighting of your bedroom. No doubt about it, this dress was the best one by far.

"Wow..." you mumbled, staring at yourself in the vanity mirror. "It...actually looks pretty good."

"I am a professional after all," the seamstress grinned, pushing her glasses up in a confident manner. "I'm glad you like it, princess."

She bowed in respect before leaving to pack up and collect her pay. Your mother smiling as she watched you twirl around in your new dress for the evening. A happy look on your face for once after the entirety of the day.

While you were busy admiring yourself however, you failed to notice your mother dismissing the rest of your maids in order to talk to you privately. Surprise adorning your face when you realized that you were all alone.

"Eh? Why'd you dismiss all of them? I thought I was supposed to apply makeup and such."

"Well, you are. But I need to talk to you first. Come, sit."

Your mother gestured for you to sit on the edge of your bed. A bit of a too happy look in her eyes as she watched you sit down with uncertainty. "...What's going on?" you questioned meekly, a bit unnerved by the jolly grin on her face as she clasped your hands together. "My dear, do you remember your old dance classes?"

You felt your stomach drop. Oh hell no.

"Mother, I--"

"I know, I know. You've always hated them as a child and you hate them even more now." Your mother sighed and ran a few fingers through her hair. "But just this once. Can you learn one simple ballroom dance? Just one?"

Her eyes were pleading for you to learn. Just one song, one dance at that was it. Despite how torturous dance lessons were, you knew that this was one of the few things that would please your mother. After all, it was the only skill you lacked as a daughter of prestigious nobility.

"...Fine." you begrudgingly answered. Cringing at the thought of being held in some stranger's arms for the lessons.

"That's my girl!" Your mother brightened, hugging you close and beaming at the thought of her daughter waltzing. "Oh, you won't regret it. The new tutor I've hired is very, very good at teaching."

"New tutor?" you questioned, wiggling yourself free from your mother's grasp.

"Yes, a new tutor. She's actually a new maid I've hired to keep the staff in check, but." Your mother grinned at the thought of her and sighed, "She's quite good at the tango if you know what I mean..."

"Eww, mom! Don't say that in front of me!" you laughed, pretending to gag.

"What? She's quite an attractive young woman. I'm sure you'd most certainly like to get up close and personal when you dan--"

"Stop it stop it stop it!"

-----------------------------------------------

The entire time leading up to your first dance lesson, your mother would not stop teasing you about how attractive your dance tutor was. Saying things like, "She's totally your type Y/N," and "God, you're so lucky to have her arms around your waist the entire time."

You were starting to believe that your own mother was crushing on her. And you couldn't help but grow curious as to whether or not this dance tutor of yours was as attractive as she seemed. As your mother kept gushing on and on about her like some boyband-obsessed teen.

"Mother, it's starting to sound like you're crushing on her," you scoffed as you made your way down to the ballroom. "You keep talking about her like she's some Goddess from a faraway land."

"Well, she certainly does look like a Goddess in my defense," your mother chuckled, "As I've stated before, she's very attractive."

"Don't let father hear you say that," you laughed. Watching as your mother smiled too.

"What he doesn't know won't hurt him," she winked, placing her hand on the ballroom door. "Now, Miss Tojo is waiting for you inside. She's only about two years older than you so, I'm sure you two will get along just fine."

"But I--"

"Make me proud honey! Oh, and don't vomit on her shoes this time. I know you had motion sickness as a child and all, but I hope you still don't have it now."

"Mom wai-"

"Have fun!"

And just like that, she had successfully reawakened your hatred for dance lessons. Shoving you inside with no remorse as you stumbled into the ballroom unprofessionally. 'Why'd she have to remind me of that? Goddammit.' You winced in memory of the traumatic experience and nearly tripped over your own shoes in embarrassment. About to fall to the ground, when a swift pair of arms suddenly caught you.

"Careful there, my lady."

A mature, soothing voice entered your ears as you slowly looked up at your heroic savior. A woman, tall and dressed in dark Victorian clothing was standing there above you. A timid smile upon her features as she held you closely in her arms to keep you from falling. "Are you alright?" she asked quietly.

'Dammit...' you thought, feeling your cheeks grow faintly warm, 'She is quite attractive...'

You bit your lip and let your eyes roam over her doll-like features. Pale and porcelain. She was a woman unlike any you've ever seen before.

"Miss...?" she called out again. Snapping you out of your thoughts.

"Huh? O-Oh, pardon me," you stood yourself straight as the woman helped you up, "I must've been a bit shaken up from my fall, my apologies."

"Do not apologize for falling," she smiled, taking your hand into hers, "It was only an accident after all."

Her hands --despite being gloved-- were soft as she pulled your knuckles towards her lips. Bowing slightly to press a quick kiss to your skin before looking up to meet your flustered eyes.

"You must be Princess Y/N. I am Kirumi Tojo, your dance tutor."

She bowed once more before straightening up her posture. The woman before you being like nothing you've ever imagined. 'Mother wasn't kidding...' you thought, watching as she pulled you to the center of the dance floor. 'This woman truly is a Goddess.'

"Have you ever danced before, my dear?" Kirumi asked as she situated herself in a hand holding position.

"Well...I've had lessons before as a child," you mumbled, looking away as embarrassment took over, "But those didn't go so well..."

"How so?" Kirumi took your hands into hers and without you noticing, began to move you in a simple box step maneuver to the soft melody of background music. Her arms wrapped around your waist as she led you through the motion of the dance.

"I...I guess I just didn't feel comfortable?" you responded shyly, "In all honesty, I've had pretty bad anxiety as a child. Whenever I was asked something highly of me, I got pretty nervous and stressed."

Kirumi nodded at your words and twirled you around gracefully. Your dress spinning like a pretty parasol as she caught you once more. "What do you say makes you comfortable then, if I may ask?"

She held you close to her body and looked at you with assurance and sincerity in her eyes. Her hold on your body making you melt like putty in her arms. "W-Well..." you felt your cheeks flush, "I think...being with someone who doesn't ask something so highly of me. Someone who...just let's me do my own thing, at my own pace. Someone who just doesn't have expectations for me. That's all I ask."

You let your gaze fall to the floor in bashfulness and noticed that your feet were moving in time to the music you were suddenly hearing. Having snapped out of your own little world with Kirumi, you nearly stumbled over yourself in shock before the maid kindly pushed your chin up to face her.

"I don't think you have to worry so much with me, my lady," she smiled, letting go of your chin and placing her hands on your waist once more, "I don't expect anything of you, princess Y/N. I want you to feel comfortable whenever you are with me. I want you to feel safe, cared for, and at ease whenever we are together."

With one last finishing sway, Kirumi dipped you low with her arms and craned her neck down to meet face to face. "I will do anything to make you feel comfortable with me."

You stared at her with wide eyes as the song ended. Concluding your performance as Kirumi smiled and pulled you back up. "You did magnificent, my lady. Hardly any imperfections at all."

You felt butterflies in your stomach at her compliment. The warm feeling of shyness spreading to your face once more as you looked away bashfully. "...You're just saying that," you chuckled, feeling a grin perk up at your lips.

"Mmm...no. I think you're very talented, princess Y/N." Kirumi grinned, "You just don't realize it yet."

"It's only because you were distracting me with your conversation," you scoffed, jabbing a teasing finger into her shoulder, "I barely even noticed we started dancing."

"That was all apart of the plan, princess Y/N," Kirumi winked, "I told you, I will do anything to make you comfortable with me."

You felt yourself smile at that statement. Almost giggling at how charming Kirumi sounded in comparison to that of a prince. "Mother was right, Miss Tojo. You are quite the dance tutor."

She chuckled at your response and grabbed your waist again. Pulling you flush against her body once more, before beginning to dance. "Please, princess Y/N," she whispered against your ear.

"Just call me Kirumi."

-----------------------------------------------

After a few more lessons with the charming dance tutor of yours, you found yourself standing in the ballroom area on the day of your eighteenth birthday. Surrounded by unfamiliar guests from different nations.

You felt...alone at the party. Which was odd considering that there were over three hundred guests present as of now. Excluding the many servants that ran about the palace in order to serve food and wine to the hungry guests.

But alas, among all the chatter and music coming from the ballroom, you still felt alone. A wallflower at your own event. It was saddening.

It was why you always dreaded the arrival of celebrations.

Sipping your sparkling cider --because you couldn't drink yet-- you stood alone at the floor and watched as people danced and ate. Noblemen and ladies chatting like the high socialites they were. And enjoying the fine wine your family provided as the royals of Regalia.

'The dance is coming up soon...' you thought, taking a sip from your flute glass, 'I wonder if Kirumi is here yet...'

Narrowing your eyes, you scanned over the crowds of socialites and tried picking out where Kirumi could be. The tall woman being nowhere to be seen in your line of sight.

'Please come quick Kirumi,' you thought worriedly. The worst case scenario being that you had to dance with some unfamiliar stranger. A fear that was already starting to build up on top of you.

"May I have this dance?"

You spun around excitedly. Thinking it was Kirumi beside you but...it wasn't. Instead, there stood a young man around your age dressed to the nines, as he bowed down in front of you, and extended his hand out for you to take.

"O-Oh...uhm..." you stared at the man's bowing figure. Fear and anxiety starting pile up on your chest. 'Oh God. I can't decline! I'm the princess, a royal! If I decline then--' you glanced at him once more, your hands shaking as your thoughts spiraled out of control, 'It'll be considered rude. My reputation, his reputation...I'm not comfortable with this yet!"

You felt your eyes grow hot and steamy, threatening to release tears right in front of this young man. 'I can't do it. Not yet, not yet...'

You were about to run off in a panic when you felt a warm hand rest itself upon your shoulder.

"Pardon me, good sir," you heard a heavenly voice speak, "But I believe the princess's first dance is reserved for me."

Quickly turning around, your eyes widened when you saw Kirumi standing there. Dressed in a sleek, black suit that made her seem more attractive than before. Her hair stylized into a fancy ponytail, to go along with her gentlewoman look.

"Kirumi..." you muttered, speechless to say anything else as you felt your stomach do flips at the sight of her.

"Do not cry, my lady," Kirumi spoke comfortingly, wiping your tears dry with her gloves, "I am here now. And I will do anything to make you feel comfortable."

Gently taking your hand with hers, she slowly dragged you out into the center of the ballroom. Where the guests pushed off to the side in order to give you some space.

"Kirumi...I..." you felt your legs shake with anticipating anxiety, "I'm so nervous..."

"Everything will be alright, princess Y/N," Kirumi situated you both in starting position, "It'll be just like how we practiced."

You scoffed at that statement. A smile tweaking at your lips as the musicians began playing their soft melody. "But that was when were alone, Kirumi. I've always felt more comfortable with just you."

"Of course you do. I tried to do everything I could to make you feel safe," she smiled down at you as you swayed gently to the beat, "It was what I did to help you get better at dancing."

"Well, it certainly did work. I haven't vomited yet if you're looking for progress." you both chuckled at your sarcastic humor, and you felt as if the whole world were melting away. All the watchful eyes leaving your field of sight, as Kirumi was the only thing you could focus on as of now.

"You certainly dressed up well tonight," you teased, watching as Kirumi's face brightened a bit at that statement.

"Do you...not like it?" she asked carefully, twirling you around like a parasol.

"Oh, I like it alright," you giggled, spinning back into her strong arms, "You look very...beautiful? Handsome? Nevertheless, you look very attractive tonight, Kirumi."

You swore you saw her blush. The maid's cheeks darkening in color, before she cleared her throat and smiled. "You think I'm attractive?"

On the final measure of the song, Kirumi dipped you low like you practiced. Your faces inches away from each other as you looked up at Kirumi with loving and adoring eyes.

"I've always thought you were attractive, Kirumi."

As the song ended and claps emerged, Kirumi stared at you shell-shocked. Blinking there dumbly for a few seconds, before finally pulling you up. Her face forever burned with a light dusting of pink.

"So did I."

The two of you bowed. Concluding your dance in a shower of cheers. Your mother looking like the proudest wingman in history, as she shot you a distant thumbs up. Indicating that she probably knew what was happening between you two.

'Of course she was hoping for this...' you felt yourself smile at her antics before turning back to your d̶a̶n̶c̶e̶ romantic partner. Who had taken your hand into hers once again, and kissed your inner palm to show how proud she was of you.

"My lady, you did wonderful."

You smiled at her and went closer. Forgetting about the people around you as you leaned up on your toes and planted a sweet kiss against the corner of her lips. Making the unsuspecting maid gasp with surprise.

"I'm sure I can do even better in private."

"...Is that so?"

Kirumi quickly composed herself and chuckled at your flirtatious comment. The subtle whispering under your breath being more than enough to keep the dance tutor hooked.

"Where shall we go to continue our dance then?" she asked curiously, beginning to drag you out of the ballroom.

"I was thinking that my bedroom could suffice." you replied softly, feeling giddy as Kirumi pulled you up the stairs for a more...intimate dance.

"Then I will do everything I can, to make you feel comfortable."

A/N: Interesting ending huh? Anywho, I really loved the chemistry of this fic. Y/N and Kirumi just had this cute safety thing going on with each other, and I really did enjoy writing for that.

Also, why do I feel like my Kirumi one-shots are written so passionately? The chemistry I write with Kirumi is always so interesting to me. As I spend a lot of time writing for her for some reason.
