Slow Dance - Setsuka Chiebukuro
Requested by: NinaPhaedra
A/N: Please do not play the song unless I tell you so in the story. I added a song to this one-shot because it created a certain atmosphere during a specific moment in the story.
Also, I know Japanese schools don't have proms, but for the sake of this one-shot, let's just say they do.
---------------------------------------------------
"You should go...your special someone might be out there."
"But what if my special someone is right here?"
---------------------------------------------------
Setsuka cheered with her friends as the music got louder. Amping up the excitement as students huddled together in close circles. Swaying their bodies to the music and yelling out the lyrics to the song.
Yup, exactly what high school dances were supposed to be like. Stupid and exciting.
"Guys, I'm gonna go wash up!" Setsuka yelled.
"What?!" Yoruko shouted over the music.
"I said I'm gonna wash up!" she repeated.
"Speak up--" Sora dragged Yoruko away and left Setsuka to use the restroom. Who hurried to go cleanse her face, as she could feel herself getting sweaty from all the excitement.
Swinging the doors open, Setsuka breathed out a sigh of relief when she was met with silence. The restroom was empty, muffled lyrics from the gymnasium echoing throughout the walls. It was calming... It was nice...
She walked over to go wash up when she heard the faintest sniffle coming from the back of the restroom. It was quiet, but the billiards player still heard it nonetheless. 'So I'm not alone...'
"Is there someone there?" she called out, turning around.
It was silent for a moment. A beat passing by before a shuffle of cloth moved around. "Sorry..." came the softest voice. "Just ignore me..."
Setsuka's brows knitted together as she stared off into the darkness. Seeing a small pair of dress shoes in the corner that were fastened to a pair of feet.
'Ah...so that's where they are...'
She heard another sniffle come from them as the person hugged their knees. Closer to their chest as they laid their head down.
No doubt about it. This person was upset.
Feeling empathetic, Setsuka smoothened out her suit and walked over to the darkened corner. Her vision increasing as she made out the form of a crying female, huddled up into a ball while her face was smothered into her dress.
As Setsuka drew closer, the form of the crying girl tensed up. Though she made no attempt to do anything as she let the billiards player sit down next to her.
"Y'know, the bathroom floor isn't exactly clean to sit on," Setsuka joked, trying to lighten the mood. The girl nodded slowly, but kept her face hidden as she wiped her tears away with her wrists. Trying extremely hard not to let out another choked sob. Especially when there was a hot girl next to her.
Silence overcame the two again. The music and cheers of students outside being the only noise heard inside.
"Are you...okay...?" Setsuka asked quietly, looking down at her lap.
The girl looked over at Setsuka and glared at her. Watery tears running down her face as she gave her an 'are you stupid?' look.
Setsuka laughed dryly and smiled. "Okay...what happened then?"
The girl sniffed and looked down at her lap. "It's stupid..." she mumbled, "It's really nothing..."
Setsuka furrowed her eyebrows together, pointing at the girl's wet face. "Something stupid can't possibly make you cry like that. What happened? You can tell me." The girl looked at Setsuka up and down, debating on whether or not to open up to a complete stranger.
"Uh..." she droned out in thought, not sure on what to do. "I don't....I-I don't really know you, no offense." The girl rubbed her arms anxiously, starting to feel panicky again. 'I really shouldn't have come here...' she thought, squeezing her eyes shut.
"Oh, well that's okay. I'm Setsuka Chiebukuro, the Ultimate Billiards Player. Boom! Now you know me!" Setsuka grinned, giving off a friendly aura. The girl blinked in disbelief, staring at Setsuka like she was crazy.
'Why is she so friendly...'
"Can I ask what's wrong now?" the billiards player asked, winking at the girl with the most charming smile she had ever seen.
Setsuka felt her heart leap when the girl shyly giggled. Starting to open up more around her. "I guess it's okay...?" the girl meekly replied, a bashful tone hinting at her speech. Setsuka grinned and nodded, "I'm all ears. But not literally because if I were just covered in ears, I would be gross."
The girl giggled again, her teary eyes starting to dry up with how much happier she was feeling. "God you're weird..." she jokingly pushed Setsuka's arm and made her laugh in return.
"Okay okay, enough jokes. What's wrong?" Setsuka looked over at the girl. Who sighed in defeat, as she now had to spill her problems to a girl she just met. "It's really not a big deal...but..." her smile saddened, "I kinda...had a panic attack I guess...?"
Setsuka's eyes widened. "God...that's awful! Was...there a reason specifically?" Setsuka creased her brow in worry, "Like...did your date ditch you or something?"
The girl shook her head, chuckling at the assumption. "No...I couldn't possibly handle a date. Besides...no one really wants to go with me..."
Setsuka nearly choked. "What? No way! You're gorgeous, how could anyone not want to be with you? Heck, I'd go with you if I could."
The girl blushed at Setsuka's compliments and shyly fumbled with her hair. "Ah...that's...sweet..." her cheeks were red as she tried to think of something else.
"U-Uhm...but the real reason why I panicked...was because of the noise..."
"Noise?"
The girl nodded. "It was really loud...the music...the people..." she hung her head down low, "My mom made me go... and I really didn't want to be here but..."
She scoffed, "She states that 'every girl must go to prom at least once in her life'." The girl rolled her eyes and sunk deeper into her ball, gritting her teeth. "I really hate loud places..."
Being a professional billiards player, Setsuka knew the feeling. Having to constantly play in loud casinos with snarky, semi-drunk adults, she knew how annoying it was. "I understand, some people don't realize it often, but being loud can be pretty annoying to some," she hummed.
The girl sighed, "Yeah...I guess you're right. I just...kinda feel like a loser...crying at prom when it's supposed to be 'the best night of my life'." She held her hands up and made air quotes when saying the last part of her sentence. Implying the heavy sarcasm laced in her tone.
"Nahh, you aren't a loser. If anything, you're winning just by being with me," Setsuka winked charmingly as the girl laughed. Pushing her around. "God, you're such a flirt..." she scoffed, smiling like she wasn't just crying a minute ago.
Setsuka shrugged, "I was flirting? Couldn't tell."
The girl rolled her eyes, feigning annoyance. "Stupid..."
"Up next is none other than the bisexual anthem itself, "Sweater Weather" by The Neighborhood! So grab a neighbor and start making your way to the dance floor, this slow song is one for the couples!"
(Start playing the song up above)
The voice of the DJ ran out throughout the gym as everyone grouped up in pairs. The beat of the song carrying over to the bathroom as Setsuka looked over at the girl.
"You should go...your special someone might be out there," the girl joked, smoothening out her dress and standing up. "I think I might go home now anyways..."
"Oh...?" Setsuka stood up and smiled. "But what if my special someone is right here?"
The girl paused, feeling her heart race a little faster. "Excuse me?"
"I never quite caught your name...care to tell me?" Setsuka grinned, leaning over. The girl blushed, feeling like her lungs were clogged with angel feathers as she sputtered out a response. "Uh...Y/N. Y/N L/N," she choked out, feeling like she was standing on eggshells.
"Well then, Y/N. Would you dance with me?" Setsuka asked, extending her arm out and giving Y/N a flirty look.
Y/N froze in place and looked down in shame. "I...I want to...but..." she squeezed her eyes shut, "The noise...outside...people..."
Setsuka smiled gently and took her by the hand. Lacing her fingers with hers. "We don't have to go outside," she spoke, tugging Y/N forward and wrapping an arm around her waist. "We could just dance here, in the bathroom..."
She giggled, "By ourselves."
Y/N felt herself melt in Setsuka's touch. So comforting to her anxieties that she felt all her worries wash away. "I'd...like that..."
The two of them swayed gently to the music. Although the lyrics were a bit muffled, it added to the somber atmosphere of first love in the bathroom. Y/N resting her head on Setsuka's shoulder as she smiled.
"Thank you...Setsuka..."
Setsuka herself smiled warmly, not caring about how her friends were probably looking for her. All that mattered to her right now, was the pretty girl in her arms, and the muffled lyrics of Sweater Weather echoing throughout the bathroom.
Inside this place is warm...
Outside it starts to pour...

A/N: Geez, I'm so sorry for making this requester wait a MONTH for this one-shot. Thank you for being so patient.
Also...I don't know why I make so many romantic scenes happen in bathrooms. I just don't know.
