FIFTY FIVE

"So I told Carl nobody, no matter how famous their parents are, nobody's allowed to climb on the dinosaur. But of course, this went in one ear and out..."

"So I told Carl nobody, no matter how famous their parents are, nobody's allowed to climb on the dinosaur. But of course, this went in one ear and out..." At this point, I tuned Ross out. Joey brought me closer into his lap, which I didn't think was possible.

"Let's go upstairs." Joey whispered to me almost incoherently.

"Why?" I glanced down at him with my brows furrowed in confusion.

"Because I want to freaking cuddle you." He pouted.

"Alright, but I need to finish my mocha." I nodded towards the untouched mug in my hand. "But I was really thinking we could try a couple of things...new things." I lowered my voice and discreetly ran a hand up his leg.

"Gunther, my man, get the woman a to–go cup, please. Now." Joey demanded in a shaky voice. Later that night, we were up in Monica's apartment with Janice.

"Hey, when you guys were kids, and you played Happy Days, who were you?" Ross questioned. "I was always Richie." He glanced over at us.

"I was always Joanie." Monica had a bright smile on her face.

"Question." Joey spoke up. "Was, uh, 'egg the Gellers!' the war cry of your neighborhood?" Joey looked between the two siblings.

"Ew! Ew! It's the Mattress King." Phoebe came over to the rest of us.

"Don't look, honey. Change the channel. Change the channel." Chandler instructed me.

"Wait, wait! I want to see this." Janice stopped him. "After I divorce him, half of the kingdom is going to be mine."

"Despair fills the mattress showroom. My kingdom is suddenly without a king." Janice's ex–husband sat in a throne with a crown on his head. "I'm so depressed. I'm going to slash...my prices! Check it out!" He stood up with a smile on his face, making Janice's jaw drop. "$599 for a Comfort King! $499 for a pillow top queen set! I'm going Medieval on prices!"

"What a wank." Chandler scoffed.

"Oh, I cannot believe he's using our divorce to sell mattresses." Janice shook her head.

"I know. At $499 for a pillow top queen set, who cares about divorce?" Monica exclaimed. "Those babies will sell themselves." She pointed at the screen. "I'm appalled for you, by the way." She added.

"You'll be glad I did. I'm close. I'm cheap. I'm the kings." He had his hands on his hips. Later that night, Joey and I were in my apartment.

"Can I move in with you?" Joey took my hands into his.

"Seriously? Right now?" I gave him a look. "I'm not in the mood to get into a pair of overalls and start packing."

"No, not right now. Maybe after we get married...or something." He trailed off.

"Joey, I still can't believe you think about these things. You've really come so far from the womanizer you used to be." I pulled him down for a kiss.

"But where are we on the 'moving in together' topic?" Joey muttered against my lips.

"To be determined." I lay down on the couch and pulled him down to me. "I love you. I love you so freaking much, words can't describe it."

"Well, why don't I show you how much I love you?" He winked at me. That's when my phone started to ring.

"God, why the hell do we need to get interrupted?" I groaned. He kissed my forehead and went to get it. I kind of dozed off and started thinking about the future. Our future. A dog or two. A couple of kids. A nice house right here in the city. Or maybe just outside of the city.

"I got it!" He ran up to me.

"Some more context would be helpful." I chuckled at his excitement.

"A job. I got the job." He smiled. "Let's go tell the others." He grabbed my hand and pulled me out the apartment.

"Hey, you guys." I smiled as Joey helped me take off my coat and took his off.

"Hey." The group greeted us. "Guess what? I got a gig." He squealed happily. The others congratulated him.

"I can never be an actor because I can't say 'gig'." Chandler sat back in his seat.

"I can't say 'croissant'." Phoebe replied. "Oh my God!" Her eyes widened when she said the word.

"What's the part?" Monica glanced up at him.

"It's not a part. No. I'm teaching acting for soap operas down at the learning extension." He clarified.

"That's great." I rubbed his shoulder.

"Yeah. Yeah, it's like my chance to give something back to the acting community." Joey explained. Two days later, I was making myself some tea. "Hey." Joey came over and kissed my cheek.

"Hi." I smiled back at him. "Ooh, how was teaching last night?" I asked him.

"Oh, it was so amazing! You get to say stuff like 'hey, the bell doesn't dismiss you. I dismiss you'." He took a seat at the dining table.

"Nice." I grabbed another mug for him.

"Guess what? I got an audition for All My Children." He informed me.

"Yay!" I cheered.

"It's this great part. It's this boxer named Nick. I'm so, so right for it." He detailed to me. "He's just like me, except he's a boxer, and he has an evil twin."

"Let's see your boxing skills." We pretended to circle each other like in a ring, but I ended up hitting him for real in the nose. Twice. "Honey, I am so sorry." I apologized.

"It's fine. Don't worry about it." Blood continued to pour down his face.

"Tilt your head back and follow me. I've got you." I held his hand and led him into the kitchen. He staggered a little when I let go of him, and I grabbed some ice from the fridge. "Shoot. I don't think we can go out tonight. I was going to wear that red dress you like." I pouted my lips.

"Baby, I am 100% a–okay." He winked at me, but I made him tilt his head back.

"Shut up and keep your head back." I wrapped a towel around the ice and placed it on his nose.

"Cold!" He exclaimed, trying to get away.

"You are going to hold that on your nose while I get some tissues to clean up the blood." I instructed him.

"You know, you're going to make an amazing mother one day." He smiled at me. I squinted my eyes at him, and he immediately went back to tilting his head up.

"And you're going to be an excellent dad." Once I got him cleaned up, we went to my room to cuddle. He lay on the bed on his back, and he held me on top of him, his arms around me tightly.

"It's like you're already a mother. You take care of me, feed me, love me." He rubbed my back.

"So now I'm your mother?" I lifted my head up off of his chest.

"No, no." He chuckled. "You're just ready to be a mother. You're already there." He whispered.

"Joey, you'll get there. Just because you think I'm ready doesn't mean I'll ever be prepared for it." I shook my head. "No one can be prepared to have a kid. No matter how hard you try." A couple of days later in the morning, we were at Central Perk. Joey just told his the bad thing he did.

"You told him to play the boxer gay?" Chandler exclaimed.

"Well, I–I might have said 'super gay'." Joey corrected him and made a face of regret and cringe.

"God, you totally screwed him over." Monica shook her head in slight disbelief.

"Joey, you're this guy's teacher." I crossed my arms over my chest. "How could you do this?"

"Because, Suparna, this guy's so good, and I really, really want this part." He replied.

"Well, if you really, really want it, then it's okay." Phoebe shrugged her shoulders and said sarcastically. After that, Joey and I were getting changed for bed.

"Do you think we should get you a new bed?" He asked me. "Maybe...a race car bed?" He suggested.

"You would ride your bed more than I do you." I put my hands on my hips.

"Please, please, please?" He begged me. "Pretty please with a cherry on top?" He got on his knees and wrapped his arms around my waist.
