FOUR

"I don't even have a 'pla'."
----------
"Phoebe, your turn." Monica leaned back against the arm chair, making sure I wouldn't fall off in the mean time.
"Alright, if I were omnipotent for a day, I would want, um, world peace, no more hunger, and good things for the rain forest." She nodded her head. "Oh, and bigger boobs." She added.
"Well. See, you took mine." Ross joked. "Suparna, what about you?" Everyone looked at me.
"If I were omnipotent for a day, I would control the weather and make it rain." I answered, answered. "God, I love the rain." I giggled a little. "Chandler, what about you?"
'If I were omnipotent for a day, I would make myself omnipotent forever." He replied. We all let out scoffs in response.
"There's always one guy." Rachel shook her head. "'If I had a wish, I'd wish for three more wishes'." She said in a dopey way before going back to her job. Then, Joey walked into the cafe.
"Hey, Joey, what would you do if you were omnipotent." Phoebe pointed at him.
"Probably kill myself." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Excuse me?" I furrowed my brows up at him.
"If Little Joey's dead, then I got on reason to leave." He sat on the other arm of my chair.
"Joey, uh...omnipotent." I clarified for him.
"How are you...?" He trailed off, asking if I was impotent. Later that day, Joey was counting his steps from we left our apartments to when we stepped into Central Perk.
"...95, 96, 97." He finally finished counting. "See, I told you. Less than 100 steps from our place to here." He looked at us.
"That's why you've been counting?" I groaned realizing that I just wasted a whole minute and a half of my life.
"You got way too much free time." Chandler pat Joey's shoulder. I sat on the arm of Monica's chair, talking to her and Phoebe.
"Could I stay at your place? They're doing some work in the bathroom 'cause everything's leaking in there." Monica got me a cup of coffee.
"Of course. Phoebe's joining us, too, so we could have a girls' night in!" We squealed excitedly. While we discussed things we could do, Joey and Chandler gave Ross their extra tickets to the Rangers–Penguins game tonight
"Oh my God. Is today the 20th? October 20th?" Ross looked over at his sister.
"I was hoping you wouldn't remember." She gave him a sad smile. Ross groaned in response.
"What's wrong with the 20th?" Joey asked him.
"11 days before Halloween—all the good costumes are gone?" Chandler inquired.
"Today's the day Carol and I first...consummated our...physical relationship." Ross stuttered out. Joey turned to me questioningly.
"Ross and Carol had sex for the first time today." I blurted out to him.
"You know, I'd better pass on the game." Ross tossed the ticket into Joey's lap. "I think I'll go home and think about my ex–wife and her lesbian lover." He dropped the magazine onto the table before getting up from the couch.
"To hell with hockey. Let's all do that." Joey smiled as he and Chandler followed Ross. Finally, they managed to convince him to join them for the game. Then, Rachel ran out from the back with an envelope in her hands.
"Look! Look! Look! My first paycheck." We cheered for here. "Look at the window. There's my name." She pointed to it.
"I remember the day I got my first paycheck." Phoebe smiled. "There was a cave–in at the mines, and eight people were killed." We all looked at her weirdly.
"Wow. You worked in a mine?" Monica asked her.
"No. I worked at a Dairy Queen. Why?" She looked over at Monica.
"Oh, isn't this exciting? I earned this. I wiped tables for it. I steamed milk for it. And it was totally..." Rachel sat down at the small table and opened up the envelope. "Not worth it. Who's 'FICA'? And why's he getting all my money? I mean, what...? Chandler, look at that." She passed the check over to my brother, and we rotated it around, reassuring that it wasn't bad at all.
"Rach, you have been working excellently today." We all gathered up bills and put them down on the coffee table. She just walked away from us.
"Hockey!" The guys cheered before heading out the door. While Monica, Phoebe, and I were talking, we saw three out–of–place girls walk into the coffee shop.
"Rachel?" One of them gasped in shock. Rachel turned around to see them, and her jaw dropped. Suddenly, the four girls were screaming like crazy.
"I swear I've seen birds do this on Wild Kingdom." Monica spoke over their screaming. The three of us watched Rachel and the other three interact.
"What are you guys doing here?" Rachel asked them.
"Well, we were in the city shopping, and your mom said you work here, and it's true." Another one of them spoke up.
"Look at you in your apron." The third and final one scanned Rachel up and down. "You look like you're in a play."
"God, look at you. You're so big. I can't believe it." Rachel hugged the pregnant one.
"I know, I know. I'm a duplex." The pregnant shrugged her shoulders and rubbed her stomach.d
"So what's going on with you?" Rachel asked the one furthest away from her.
"Well, guess whom my dad's making partner in his firm?" Then she pointed to herself, making the squealing start again.
"You would think we're in a slaughter house or something." I said to Monica and Phoebe.
"Oh, look, I have elbows." Phoebe exclaimed, making the three of us imitate the other four. Later that night, we were making drinks for the night when Rachel walked in.
"Hey, Rach. How was it with your friends?" We mocked screamed. She turned around and gave us a look. "Okay, how would you like some Tiki Death Punch?" Monica started pouring the drink into the glasses.
"What's that?" She came over to us.
"It's rum and—" Monica started to list out the ingredients.
"Okay." Rachel took the blender and stuck a straw into it before drinking.
"We though we'd have kind of a slumber party thing tonight." Monica explained. "We got some trashy magazines. We got cookie dough. We got Twister." Then the phone rang, so she went and picked up the phone.
"I brought 'Operation'. But I lost the tweezers so we can't play." Phoebe held up the board game.
"And I got the ingredients for tequila sunrises, mimosas, and plain old vodka." I shrugged a little.
"Rach, it's the Visa card people." Monica tried to hand her the phone.
"Oh, God. Ask them what they want." Rachel pushed it away.
"Could you please tell me what this is in reference to?" Monica asked the person on the other side. "Yes..." She turned to Rachel. "They say that there's been some unusual activity on your account." She replied.
"But I haven't used my card in weeks." Rachel furrowed her brows.
"That is the unusual activity." Monica replied, making Rachel stand up and cross her arms over her chest. "Look, they just want to see if you're okay."
"Okay, they want to know if I'm okay. Okay, let's see..." Rachel though about it for a couple of seconds. "Well, the FICA guys took all my money. Everyone I know is either getting married or getting pregnant or getting promoted, and I'm getting coffee, and it isn't even for me." She continued to rant. "So if that sounds like I'm okay, then you can tell them I'm okay. Okay?"
"Uh, Rachel has left the building." Monica told the person. "Can you call back?"
"Alright, come on." Rachel took the game mat and laid it down on the floor. "Let's play Twister." Her voice broke. The three of us comforted her on the sofa.
"You should feel great about yourself. You're doing this amazing independent thing." I pet her hair and reassured her.
"Suparna, what is so amazing?" Rachel glanced back at me. "I gave up, like, everything. And for what?" She sighed.
"You are just like Jack." Phoebe spoke up, making the three of us give her confused looks. "From Jack and the Beanstalk. See, he gave up something, but then he got those magic beans. And then he woke up, and there was this big plant outside of his window, full of possibilities and stuff. He lived in a village, and you live in The Village." Phoebe explained.
"Okay, Pheebs, Pheebs...Jack gave up a cow. I gave up an orthodontist." Rachel interjected. "I–I know I didn't love him—"
"See, but Jack did love the cow." Phoebe nodded her head.
"But, see, it was a plan. It was clear. Everything was figured out, and now everything's just kind of like..." Rachel waved her arms in front of her face.
"Floopy?" Phoebe finished, making Rachel nod her head. Monica and I tried to reassure her that everything would fall into place soon enough.
"What if it doesn't come together, Suparna, Monica?" She propped her head on here hand. The three of us shared a look.
"Pheebs?" Monica threw the question at Phoebe.
"'Cause you just like...I don't like this question. Suparna?" They turned to me.
"Trust that life is trying to keep you on the right path. And we've got your back." I smiled at her. Phoebe and Monica leeched off of my answer and agreed.
"But what if?" And the four of us sat around, completely depressed with life. "I'm so sorry, you guys. I didn't mean to bring you guys down." I was eating frosting out of the can.
"No, you were right. I don't have a plan. I don't even have a 'pla'." Phoebe moved her hair out of her face. Then, the pizza guy came. I tried to stand up, but I tripped over the Twister mat and fell to the ground.
"That's going to leave a mark." I groaned, trying not to move since my right leg kept sending up shots of pain.
"Suparna! Are you okay?" Monica, Rachel, and Phoebe ran over to me.
"Just someone go get the pizza!" I yelled at them. Rachel ran over to the door while Phoebe and Monica helped me onto the sofa and propped my leg up.
"Okay, we need to get you to the hospital. Your leg looks like it has a heartbeat of its own." The two grimaced at the look of my leg.
"Please, it hurts really bad." I whimpered in pain.
"We have George Stephanopoulos' pizza! He's " Rachel squealed after the pizza guy left.
"My foot suddenly feels fine." With support from the girls and the couch, I hopped over to the window.
Phoebe and Monica looked at the guy through a pair of binoculars. After spying on him and sadly...his girlfriend for twenty minutes, the girls forced me to go to a hospital. Once they nurse got me on a pair of crutches and a gigantic boot, we headed back to the apartment. We propped pillows blankets, and chairs on the balcony while watching George's bedroom.
"Lights still out?" Monica asked while pouring more of the Tiki Death Punch into our glasses.
"Yeah." Rachel looked through the binoculars.
"Well, maybe they're napping." Monica suggested.
"Oh, please. They're having sex." Rachel put down the binoculars.
"Shut up!" Monica, Phoebe, and I exclaimed at the same time.
"A girl can dream!" I added, making Rachel laugh at the three of us.
"So...what do you think George is like?" Rachel took a sip of the alcoholic drink.
"I think he's shy." Monica finally sat down. "I think you have to draw him out, and then...when you do, he's a preppy animal." She added, making us giggle. We were a little tipsy when we started to admit secrets.
"Okay, I got one. Do you remember that vegetarian pate that I made that you loved so much?" Monica pointed at Phoebe. "Well, unless goose is a vegetable..." We all chuckled.
"Fine. Now I don't feel so bad about sleeping with Jason Hurley." Phoebe stuck her tongue at out at Monica. "You two had already broken up. For a couple of hours."
"I have a really good one." Rachel's pillow accidentally fell off the balcony. "The valentine Tommy Rollerson left in your locker was really from me and Suparna!" She squealed
"Excuse me?" Monica looked between the two of us.
"Hello? Like he was really going to send you one." Rachel replied. "She was a big girl." She looked at Phoebe. "Your turn, Suparna." Rachel nudged my shoulder.
"I've got one for her. Our Suparna has a little crush on the one and only...Joey Tribbiani." Monica nudged my shoulder.
"Shut up!" I pushed her back before seeing a light switch on in George's apartment. "There he is!" I accidentally dropped my crutches. I leaned my arms against the edge of the balcony.
"Drop the towel. Drop the towel." We all chanted, and he finally did. "Wow." We breathed out. Once the guys came home, we were playing Twister. They didn't want me to play because of my foot, but I waved them off.
"Monica, right foot red." Ross called out the body part and the color.
"We could have played Monopoly, but no..." She angrily moved her foot to the spot.
"Okay, Sup. Right hand blue." He called out. I was now kind of in a down dog position in front of Joey. "Good." Ross nodded his head. The Visa people called again, so Chandler took Rachel's place for the time being. Joey put his hands on my hips to keep me steady. Monica and Phoebe gave me knowing smirks when he did that.
