SIXTY NINE

"And then expect to go off gallivanting with your friends? Well, I don't think so, mister!"
----------
"So whose idea was it to put everybody at the diner on skates?" Rachel asked. She, Phoebe, and I were helping Monica skate on skates.
"Some idiot customer put a suggestion in the suggestion box." She rolled her eyes.
"Oh my God! They took my idea!" Phoebe jumped up and down before sending Monica my way.
"That was you?" Monica exclaimed.
"Yeah." Phoebe nodded her head.
"Alright, there you go." I pushed her towards Rachel.
"Rachel, I made you a hot cocoa." Gunther stepped out of the coffeehouse.
"Oh my G—" Monica winced as she was about to bump into Rachel.
"It's so nice—" Rachel was cut off with Monica trampling over her.
"Are you guys o—" I went over to them but tripped over a crack and fell right next to Rachel before Monica rolled onto my back.
"Shoot! Are you guys alright?" Phoebe came over to us. The three of us moaned and groaned in pain.
"Oh, my." My boyfriend stepped out of Central Perk and smirked when he saw the three of us on top of each other in a...compromising pose. The three of us looked up and glared at him. Later that night, Joey and I were at his place, watching some Quincy, M.E. to pass the time.
"Hey." Chandler came out of his room.
"You know, with that goatee, you kind of look like Satan." Joey called out to him.
"So that's why the priest threw holy water on me." Chandler gasped in surprise. Joey didn't say anything else and turned his recliner to face the TV.
"Joey, you have got to get over that actress you're working with. Who cares if she's making fun of you?" I looked over at him.
"I care. And I thought you would defend me." Joey pouted.
"Go cheer him up with some sex, Suparna." Chandler suggested.
"You don't think I tried that already?" I looked back at him. "Nothing's working." I sighed.
"Come out with me and Ross tonight. I mean, anything is better than sitting around here crying all day about the company hating you." Chandler advised.
"Hey, I was crying because...because nobody believed Quincy's theory, okay?" He motioned towards the screen.
"No, you weren't. I've been sitting here next to you this entire time." I reminded him.
"Thanks, baby." He stuck his tongue out at me, making me do that same right back at him.
"Hi." Ross came bounding into the apartment. "I'm going to be on TV!" He pumped his fists into the air.
"No way!" Chandler gasped.
"Yeah. They're putting together this panel to talk about fossils in Peru, and the Discovery Channel is going to film it." Ross summarized for us.
"Do we have to go to the live taping?" I asked him.
"No." He shook his head.
"Congratulations!" I hugged him tightly.
"Oh my God! Who's going to watch that?" Chandler chuckled.
"Thanks. You ready to go?" Ross changed the subject.
"Yeah." Chandler answered.
"Saw a girl with that vest." Joey cleared his throat.
"Pretty sure I was wearing that vest a week ago." I pointed at my brother.
"Thanks." He took it off before leaving the apartment with Ross.
"Joey, honey, I have to go. You're going to be alright here by yourself, right?" I wrapped my arms around his neck and stood between his legs as he leaned against the kitchen counter.
"Of course I will. Why won't I be?" He brushed a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Because when you're upset, you tend to make...rash decisions." I smiled shyly.
"I promise I won't do anything reckless until you get back." He pecked my lips.
"Love you!" I called out to him and walking out of the apartment. A couple of days later, Phoebe and I were hanging out with Chandler at his place.
"So, um, after you put the suggestion in the box, how long did it take for the roller skating thing to happen?" Chandler questioned Phoebe.
"About three months." She replied
"Okay, so I guess that's about, uh...two weeks before the topless thing kicks in." He scratched his chin.
"Ooh, do you guys have frosting?" I looked over at Chandler.
"Top shelf." He nodded towards the cabinets. "Why?" He furrowed his brows in confusion.
"'Cause I'm craving it." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Hey." Joey tiptoed into the apartment with a shoe box in his hands. "I got you something." He set it down on the counter before taking a step back. "Open it, open it, open it!" He repeated over–enthusiastically.
"Okay." Chandler took off the top, revealing a baby chicken. "It's a chicken." He stated.
"It's cute, huh?" Joey smiled at it.
"Woah, woah, woah, you guys. Do you know anything about chicken?" Phoebe inquired.
"Fowl? No. Women?" Chandler smirked.
"Still no." I answered for him, to which he agreed.
"They are a huge responsibility. Especially at this age. They require constant care." Phoebe explained. "They need just the right food and lots and lots love." She listed out.
"I have got plenty of love to give to you, baby." I carefully took the chick into my hands and rocked the chick like I would with a baby. Joey wrapped his arms around me from behind and started mumbled in a high–pitched voice.
"Easy, Lenny." Chandler made a face.
"Hey...chick. I'm your mom. Or your aunt. I don't even know what I am, but I'm going to take care of you." I pet the top of the little guy's head. About three days later, I went to check in on the chick when I saw Chandler and Joey arguing right in front of him.
"I'm stuck here all day, and then you come in and spend two seconds with us. And then expect to go off gallivanting with your friends? Well, I don't think so, mister!" Chandler lectured him.
"Hey! I need to relax, okay? I was working all day." Joey spat out.
"Boys, boys, boys." I shook my head at them in disappointment. "Have you no decency? You can't argue in front of the chick." I picked him up out of his little makeshift pen.
"Have you noticed that ever since we got the chick, we've been fighting a lot more?" Chandler mentioned.
"I don't know." Joey came over to us. "Maybe we weren't ready to have a chick." He shrugged his shoulders.
"I'll take her back tomorrow." Chandler sighed.
"Do you think we'll get our three bucks back?" Joey asked him.
"You can't put a price on love." I muttered to him angrily.
"Hey. Listen, I have that TV thing in like two hours, and I need your help, okay?" Ross pulled out two hangers from the black garment bag. "What do you think? This blue suit or this brown one?" He held them up.
"Well...the brown one brings out your eyes. But your butt looks great in the blue one." Joey opinionated.
"Uh, I was actually asking Suparna, but really?" He looked down at the suits then back up at us. Joey and Chandler made a face at him for taking Joey seriously. Ross left to go to the girls' apartment. Later the next day in the afternoon, I headed over to the guys' place and didn't see any of them. I was grabbing some more frosting since I forgot to get some at the supermarket, but something quacking made me drop the can.
"Ahh!" I screamed. Then, the guys came running out of their respective rooms. Joey held up a belt, Chandler raised his briefcase, ready to attack.
"What? What is it?" Joey asked me.
"Something quacked." I whimpered.
"Bad duck! Bad duck, bad duck, bad duck!" Chandler literally picked up a duck and opened the door. "You think about what you did!" We heard him yell at the duck.
"You think he's overreacting, right?" I turned to Joey.
"Definitely." He nodded his head in agreement. Then, Chandler came back in without the duck.
"Chandler, go get the duck back right now!" I stomped my foot.
"In two minutes. He needs to learn his lesson." Chandler crossed his arms over his chest.
"So now you have a chick and a duck?" I smiled.
"Yeah. You want to add a kid into the mix?" He bumped my hip.
