In the year 2012, after a Chitauri invasion that left Nueva York nearly destroyed and other parts of the world defenseless, most of the Avengers fell to their demise. After the AVENGERS INITIATIVE was terminated, Nick Fury had no choice but to renounce as Director of SHIELD and later be eliminated. Causing the organization to shut down while a new underground organization started to rise, otherwise known as SYNDICATE. A private sector for the US Government that worked alongside the World Security Council and United Nations with only a limited few knowing about its existence.

Its mission was to restore the 'irreversible' damage that was caused throughout the world as the ozone layer was almost depleted due to a large tear from the alien invasion and extreme pollution. Therefore, the United Nations sent their best scientists from around the world to resolve the issue by working for SYNDICATE. One of them was Santiago Salinas, a renowned scientist in Human Research and Ecology. Eventually, he led a group of scientists to figure out a solution through reforestation all around Nueva York and the skyscrapers acted as a watering system to create 'rainfall' daily. 

As several years passed, it's proven to rehabilitate the Earth while hundreds of new species were discovered in Nueva York. One of them is a new spider species that was exposed to Chitauri Energy Core, therefore, Santiago Salinas took it upon himself to uncover its potential abilities. Ultimately, he created a serum and used his daughter as his test subject for the new prototype. However, greed consumed him as he wanted to create new serums that granted abilities to sell them to the wealthy and bring a new age of heroes. Most of them went into hiding or perished, but his plan eventually backfired for undisclosed reasons. And for a moment in time, there was peace... until a new heroine arrived, Phantom-Spider.
