VII

There wasn't much excitement in hoseok's humble life. He would go to work, spend his late afternoons by the ocean, staring out into the majestic yet haunting waters. And as the sky turned from deep lilac and orange hues into nothing but black, with fragments of moonlight rays illuminating the earth, he would return to the comfort of his small abode; in which he would cook a quick meal and then rest for the night.

There was nothing adventurous nor enigmatic about his life. There was no one in his life to even whine and complain to, someone who would laugh at his sharp tongue and unwise words, someone who would then take his hands and show him adventure.

But there was nothing, only silence.

Seeing and talking to Jimin had been the last time that hose had ever willingly done something to change his tedious and repetitive life. Seeing Taehyung that day had not been something hose would have done in a million years. He had promised himself that he would stay away, no matter how impatient he became. But seeing Taehyung had proved otherwise. It was needless to say that Hoseok sincerely missed Taehyung. When he had told Taehyung that he missed him, it wasn't an exaggeration, it wasn't something he said mindlessly or desperately. It was nothing but the truth.

Taehyung. Where did he sleep last night? Did he sleep as the moon watched intently over him, the sun greeting him with bright rays, him returning the gesture with a groan. His exhausted eyes closing as he did so.

Was his first thought Hoseok? Did he ever wonder if Hoseok still loved him?

The only memory that remained in Hoseok's mind was Taehyung expressionless stare as he cried, his heart breaking, the silence of the night consuming the two.

If hose was unable to have patience, if he was unable to stay away from the charismatic Taehyung forever. how hard was it for Taehyung to tell him to stay away? How hard was it for Taehyung to run?

Hoseok sat on his bed, staring out of the window. It wasn't his idea to move at first, it had been the idea his parents had held. And in this very moment, even as Hoseok felt alone and unwanted. He knew that he had made the right choice, to enjoy the silence of his oh so boring life was one thing that he enjoyed. His quiet morning was soon disturbed by the ringing of his phone, surprised, Hoseok quickly moved to answer it. Seeing the unknown displayed on his screen, he furrowed his brows and hesitantly answered it.

"Hello?" Hoseok questioned, a hint of confusion tainting his tone. "Who is this?"

"Hoseok, is that you? I mean i'm not too sure if- anyway." Hoseok stood, confused. The man on the other end of the line seemed enthusiastic, as if he had been dying to talk to Hoseok. whatever this was, he did not know what to expect. "It's me, Seokjin. I don't remember you, I don't think you'll remember me. But you see, the thing is we have one thing in common." Hoseok sat down on his bed. he did not know how to interpret this information. Seokjin was right, Hoseok did not remember him.

"I'm sorry, I don't remember you. and if I don't remember you how can we have something in common? How did you even get my number i don't understa-"

"Taehyung."

"What?" Hoseok's heart restless heart began beating, the sound of a thousand horses running filling his ears.

"I just think it is really stupid, whatever it is that the two of you are doing. Running around, chasing and being chased, acting like idiots. What do you two expect from this? If this is love, then there is truly no ending to it." Hoseok fell into a silence. He was baffled, this has been the most interesting turn of events. He couldn't help but smile, something he had not done genuinely in years.

"Listen I-I...I promised something to Taehyung, I promised to stay away from him-"

"Then why are you still here?" Seokjin interrupted hoseok. "If you intended to stay away from him, why do you still live here, close to him? I know that the two of you met last night, there is no denying it. I think you should stop by my place sometime? I don't enjoy talking to people on the phone, it doesn't even matter if you don't want to see Taehyung, it would be nice for me to see you." Hoseok's eyes clouded over as he hesitated with a response. He did not know who this was, he only knew that Taehyung most definitely knew him and nothing else.

But then again. What else was Hoseok to do if he denied this invitation?

"Yes, yes okay. When would you like me to-"

"Today, i'll text you my address." Puzzled yet without question, Hoseok said goodbye and awaited Seokjin's address.

There was a strange yet ardent demeanour that Seokjin emitted. A personality that Hoseok was almost too familiar with. What had made him trust Seokjin without question? What if this had been a mistake? Through the constant worry, Hoseok couldn't help but reminisce the words that Seokjin had said and even though it was hard to accept the truth, he had to at some point. He wasn't patient. There was nothing patient about Hoseok, he needed Taehyung and in the deep depths of his heart, Hoseok knew that Taehyung needed him as well.

After receiving Seokjin's message stating his address. Hoseok began to get changed before steeping into the cool air outside. Everything seemed quaint and solemn in this town. The nights were full of life, the days full of secrecy. Hoseok never did really take time to open his eyes and look at the world that stood around him. He had everything he ever needed at his fingertips, so why did he feel as if he never did have anything?

He quickly ran over the short text that Seokjin had sent him, the address was not far from where Hoseok lived. In fact it was walking distance. He made a mental note to ask Seokjin many questions, the first being how he came to get his number. Without even realising, without even thinking. Hoseok came closer to the apartment complex that Seokjin lived in.

He stood outside the building, and after another minute of questioning himself, Seokjin and his own wellbeing. Hoseok made his way towards it.

Inside, everything was alive. For an apartment complex, it was loud. Too loud. People were talking and laughing in the lobby, and although it was loud, nothing felt out of place. Everything seemed right. After a slow elevator ride by himself, Hoseok had finally arrived in front of Seokjin's apartment.

With a newly found confidence, Hoseok lifted his hand up to the wooden door and knocked. No one. He knocked again, this time his heart beating with worry.

"I'm coming, I'm coming." Someone shouted from inside, Hoseok stepped back. No. Had Seokjin lied to him? His eyes darted around the hallway. Had Hoseok made a mistake? It couldn't be. His confidence quickly died down as he turned to walk off. Before he was successfully able to. The door opened, revealing him.

His tousled hair and puffy eyes. His dishevelled appearance only made him even more handsome and harder to stare at for too long. Hoseok shifted his gaze towards the floor as he felt his cheeks turn a soft shade of rose.

"I-I'm sorry. This was a mistake." Taehyung's eyes widened, he himself bewildered. He couldn't help but recognise Hoseok's flustered appearance, making him want to reply with a cocky remark and watch as Hoseok became shy and defensive. However, this was not who he was now. Taehyung's expression soon became cold as he was pulled back into reality.

"You need to leave."
