𝐍𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐘𝐀𝐌 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐑𝐔𝐍𝐍𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐋𝐈𝐊𝐄 𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐀𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐃𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄.

the pain in his legs was worsening every step as the little rocks that he encountered went deep into the sole of his foot; when he wasn't fast enough with his reflex leaves would slap against his face making him scrunch his nose in pain.

he wanted to show you that everything between you two was real, that you could trust him, that he was going to be there forever — or at least as long as he could.

but he ignored all of it as he kept going.

he knew that what he was doing was too important, not only for him but for you too.

so he pushed trough the physical pain with ease.

the problem was that he couldn't help but think about how he had left his family behind.

maybe that was what was really causing him so much pain, so much guilt.

the thought of leaving them.

he wasn't abandoning his siblings, he could've never done something like that, he would have fought with tears and blood for them.

and for his parents too.

but all his life he have had only two things contrasting in his mind: following his siblings into some reckless adventure or following his parents' rules.

and even if sometimes he could find a compromise.

most of the times there was a fight in his head between the two sides of the coin that was his brain.

but then you happened.

and you took over his heart.

so even if neteyam had always preferred to follow his brain more than his heart, he found himself running into the darkness that was the forest — hoping to come back alive.

his breath was erratic, and he thought that if his lungs would've been alive they would've screamed at him to stop.

but he also knew that if his heart was alive he would've told him to keep running and ignore everything else.

so he tried to took a deep breath as he looked around trying to spot something familiar.

and he did.

or more like that something spotted him.

an hand strongly gripped his forearm before dragging him back of some steps.

and there you were.

you were laying against a tree, your hand still holding his arm — thankfully, with less strength.

neteyam found himself at a loss of words; he wanted to say that the reason was that you had stopped him on his tracks, but he knew that he would've been lying.

it seemed like the dark had been made just for you.

the small white dots on your skin were shining right into his face — and that was really distracting!

your skin half vanished into the nature and the abyss of the darker side of pandora.

"what are you doing here?" you growled, or at least you tried too.

neteyam heard the slight pain in your tone and he snapped out of his trance to take a good look at your whole body.

and that's when he saw the large cut on your leg.

you watched as his eyes widened and he moved near you, you let your fingers leave his arm as his hands instantly flied up towards your thigh.

before he could do anything else you pushed your index against his chest, making his eyes find yours once again.

"what are you doing here?" you questioned again trough gritted teeth, he observed as you untied something from the side of your arm, a bracelet maybe — he couldn't see very well and his brain couldn't really focus on anything else other than you.

you rolled it around your leg before you made a thigh knot right above the injury.

you made a pained sound but it was just a murmur and then your arm crossed on your chest, your glare hardening as he still had yet to answer your question.

you tilted your head to the side and it was enough for him to connect back with reality.

"i'm-uh, i came here too- i wanted to- i just-" he was sure that he looked and sounded like an idiot as he couldn't came up with anything too say.

he played with his hands as he glanced all around to try and distract himself from your, beautiful, eyes.

but your eyes were looking at him in a way far more soft and gentle then what he could've ever imagined.

"'teyam" and here he was, pudding in your hands.

you had never used such a nickname in all the time spent together and he had never thought about you calling him any different from his name, but you did it; and he felt like his brain completely exploded and disconnected from anything else as that word touched his ears.

how could he be so breakable?

he was supposed to be the next olo'eyktan for eywa's sake! he couldn't let himself be so weak.

he tried to convince himself that it wasn't really like that but all his mind could master to think about was your voice saying that.

'teyam, 'teyam, 'teyam, 'teyam...

your hand coming to his cheek woke him up from his trance, but skin against skin was distracting him just as much.

"you need to leave okay?" you spoke softly, and he felt like you were a siren trying to lure him into doing whatever you said — not that he would've really minded.

he was about to nod in agreement as your thumb brushed just below his eye, but he realised what you had asked him to do and he abruptly shook his head.

"no, absolutely not." he replied , a little grumpier than he had wanted to.

he glanced down to the blood dripping down your thigh and you knew that nothing was going to make him move.

you let your arm fall once again, pushing your body in a position a little more comfortable.

"i'm fine" you murmured and you watched as his pupils found yours before he went back to look down at the red liquid.

"no, you're not." he was starting to sound angry and you didn't have time for that, you still had things that needed to be end.

"i know you're strong but i'm not gonna leave you alone" he wanted to keep this promise, he wanted you to know that he was saying the truth.

but as he waited for some answers he noticed your ears moving around.

you got up from the tree, slowly, you looked into the distance as you focused on the sounds you were hearing.

your ears stopped moving when you finally caught the source of the sound.

your face shifted from a slightly confused one to something that neteyam couldn't quite catch.

your eyes focused back on him and his worry came back in a second.

he didn't like the way you were looking at him, not even a bit.

you moved from the tree, your hands behind you still touching it to ground yourself.

"wha- where are you going?" as soon as those words left his mouth he hard shouts and calls of his name.

he heard the galopping of the palì, lots of palì.

he had never found them anything near nice but in that moment, as he realised what was happening, he was sure that he hated them.

"no, wait! it's not what it looks like!" he tried to say as he walked towards you, you moved behind, not letting him do what he wanted.

"you." you growled, your face a scowl "you brought them here"

even if you tried to scare him away he could see what you were trying to hide behind those eyes.

what could he say?

he couldn't deny the truth.

it had been his fault, he was the one that had let his parents follow him to her.

he was that one that hadn't realised.

it was him.

he wanted to say something to you he really did but you didn't give him time.

"i- i swear i didn't- "

you hissed and he stopped, you growled in his face, your knife out once again.

and after months you were back were everything started, the sharp ends of your weapon centimetres from his neck.

you repeated the noise once again and he had to stop the urge of doing a step back.

you were about to say something, but before you could an animal sound was heard in the distance.

neteyam's ears shoot up.

he knew that noise a little too well, he was familiar with it.

you looked around, and for the first time he noticed that you were a little more quick with your movements.

another strange noise.

and then you swiftly tilted your body to the side.

in that moment, as he watched your eyes darkening, neteyam knew that you had let the other side of you take control, the side that would've fought until there would've been life in your body.

the one that didn't hold back,

the one that killed.

the one that he had never saw, not even in your first encounter.

you growled but it sound so much like a roar that his feet moved before his mind, and he did a step back.

and he realised just how much he grounded you.

because as soon as he went out of the bubble that hugged you two he saw your whole soul shift.

he was just hoping that your moral weren't connected with that.

because if there's one thing that he knew, was that if you were going to die, you would've brought someone down with you.

and that someone was coming out from the bushes with a bow in her hands.

a bow that had just fired, and missed.

all the pain in your leg had vanished as you looked at the woman in front of you, tilting your head.

you were the predator.

you weren't saying anything, you were just analysing her, and her body language.

neteyam tried to move, to stay between the two of you and stop you.

but the both of you hissed at him and it made him understand that there was no way that he could do something like that.

but neytiri wanted to protect her son.

and a killer hissing at him wasn't what she would call a good thing.

so she fired once again.

and she missed once again.

but this time only of some centimetres as a small cut appeared on your forearm.

you groaned angry, but it looked more as if you were annoyed then scared, and maybe that was what made neytiri remember who she was facing.

a t'herkaya.

so for a moment she faltered.

but then you glared at her, and she pushed trough, putting the bow back up.

the shouts were near and another na'vi arrived.

neteyam had thought that it couldn't get any worse, but when his father appeared with scowl on his face that screamed just 'disappointed', he became sure that it could go even worse than that.

jake took his knife out, ready to attack.

but luckily before neytiri could even think about what to do you let your body disappear in the darkness.

not even daring to look at the boy that was just waiting for someone to tell him that everything would go okay.

and when your eyes followed your body vanishing with it the parents turned towards him.

his father's hand around his arm, dragging him away from there.

away from you.
